That's... I don't think I have words to describe how terrible those people are.

Even if Zelda Williams wasn't one of the sweetest people on planet Earth, you don't fucking do that shit.

It's sad how bad society is. Even sadder is that it's getting worse everyday. My wife suffers from depression. I hope this never happens to her.

Oh, FUCK. I barely knew about Robin Williams depression problems, so the words Robin Williams hung himself sounded like they never belonged anywhere near each other. When I heard he died I was sad, but man, hearing he committed suicide, it just sucks.

Depression is a major problem, if any of you suffer from major depression or suicidal thoughts, seek help. It just fucking sucks.

Also people on internet tend to be asshole unfortunately. I don't blame her for not being able to deal with it. I mean her father just died one day before, and she had no time to cope, and these assholes come in and just do some stupid shit.

Apparently people were also mining her Intagram account for pictures of her and her father and complaining to her that there aren't more.

Yeah, I absolutely don't blame her for shutting herself off from those sites. Why do some people think that public figures owe them EVERYTHING? sad

I'm hearing he had early stage parkinsons and hadn't yet gone public with it. His wife has announced it. That's very painful to hear, such a terrible condition :(

My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.

I can understand if that was the issue that pushed him over. It's how my own dad went (parkinsons, not suicide), and we were there for all the misery that disease inflicts.

Parkinson's is one of those nightmare diseases, far as I'm concerned. I can see it potentially pushing anyone over the edge.

It's an illness that manifests in different ways, the most well known is the uncontrollable movement that Michael J Fox exhibits. But there are also some neurological symptoms that make it related to Dementia, Alzheimer's and even stroke victims like slurred speech.

You know, I think one positive thing that you could look at is the greater recognition that just because someone is joking around doesn't mean they are happy. A lot of comedians are broken in some way, stand-up is a place they feel accepted.

Comedy is a coping mechanism, the problem is that a lot of fans don't want the comedians to turn it off. Best rule of thumb: If you see a comedian off-stage, offer to buy them lunch or something, and DON'T fucking ask or expect them to be funny. It doesn't just turn on, and most comedians have to work on their jokes ahead of time. Besides, they're people. They need down time.

Facing down a debilitating disease? I don't see any dishonor whatsoever in choosing to go out ahead of time.

I first heard the news of Robin's death on Monday, secondhand from someone else, who announced to us that (like myself) part of his childhood had died when he heard. I've been away from my computer for the past week, so I couldn't put my thoughts down until today. Like many millenials, my first exposure to Robin was through Aladdin and other 90s films like Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji and Flubber; after high school, I discovered his stand-up (introduced via his "Golf" bit from Live 2002), picking up 2010's Weapons of Self-Destruction the week it was released.

His dramatic roles in films like Dead Poets Society (which I first saw in my 7th grade English class, Harsher in Hindsight both in- and out-of-universe now because we were warned about the suicide content beforehand), Good Will Hunting and Insomnia also left their mark, proving that he was adept at both comedy and drama, and fully deserving of that Oscar.

This is definitely the first celebrity death in a while to personally affect me, due to the impact he's had on my childhood and others in my generation. I think it also serves as something as a wake-up call to the world about the demons comedians face, as described in detail in the Cracked article linked a few pages back. As a writer, and a funny one at that, I can relate to the idea that artists cope with their hardships by being creative. I can see how the piling up of financial troubles from alimony, his TV show (which I watched) being canceled, and now the revelation of Parkinson's disease, could push him over the edge, in spite of how beloved he clearly was by the public at large.

Such a loss. May he rest in peace.

Well. I hope the funeral passes without incident. A certain so-called "church" is thinking about protesting at it. You know the one I mean.

What the hell is an "unofficial Jew"?

[up] If I had to guess, I'd say it's either someone that's recognized as an 'honorary Jew' in some capacity or someone who practices the Jewish faith in some capacity but isn't Jewish by birth.

[up][up]I suppose the first part is the one that's most likely. Still, it'a a bit of weird expression to use. wild mass guessIt could also mean to imply 'those who are part of the Righteous Among the Nations'.wild mass guess

[up] I could see that being an alternative interpretation.

Though personally, I think it almost sounds like just another way of saying "Honorary Jew". tongue

I heard it was because he was supportive of LGBT rights, which is up there with Heath Ledger's "played a gay cowboy" as far as their reasons having any sort of actual point beyond wanting attention.

I heard it was because he was a celebrity whose funeral will be widely reported on.

I mean, let's get real here, they don't care who he was or what he believed in. They've picketed famous fundamentalists' funerals, IIRC. They just want to be in front of the cameras.

I saw the thing about being an "unofficial Jew" and thought it was being said as a compliment of some kind. sad

Robin Williams played the Openly Gay Owner of a Drag Bar in the film The Birdcage so I'd say that's probably reason enough for bastards like the WBC. And I'd imagine they're itching for some headlines because I haven't heard anything since their leader whatever died.

Speaking of the Birdcage, my local Broadway theater, Music Circus, opens their show of LA Cage Aux Folles tomorrow night (the show that The Birdcage was based on) and they're dedicating opening night to Mr. Williams.

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.
