Digimon World, based on the original virtual pet. A much beloved mon-raising adventure game of our childhood, with a glitch-tastic NA release.

Anyway, I have a question. I'm trying to find and recruit Metal Mamemon. I know he's in Factorial Town, but I can't seem to find the bugger. Does he appear only at a certain time of day, or are there other conditions that need to be met?

Aside from Nanimon, Digitamamon, and the Grey Lord's Mansion sidequest, he's pretty much the only 'mon I haven't recruited to File City yet.

If anyone has any suggestions, or just wants to regale the community with tales of their own exploits in the Digimon World (not just the first game, but also 2, 3, 4, and any other game bearing the title), then by all means, come on in!

I played the second game during that odd time where I have a Playstation (that my brother had owned).

Loved the interrupt techniques. T'was a great feeling to see them try and use an attack and them you cut them off and stomp their asses.cool

Can we talk about Digimon World Redigitize here?

I haven't played Redigitize, but it does bear the Digimon World name, so yes. Yes you can.

Cool.

Though I haven't played it either. I've just been watching some translated videos.

And unfortunately they seem to have stopped.

Still praying that Bam-Co will get serious about Translating Decode.

I really want to learn more about the game.

Got the prosperity rate to 100 (recruited all Digimon to the city), got Tamer level to 8, and defeated the even more powerful Machinedramon in Back Dimension.

Now that I have my partner as a Piximon again, I'm hoping I can finish learning the rest of the Earth techs, and then move on to the next speciality.

I remembered owning 1 back in the day.

Also one of my friends used to have 2, which I recalled having all JP voices. Nothing was weirder than hearing Patamon shout "JEHRAI GUNDAM" or whatever it was, or the player character shouting "SHOOTAH GAHN"

I only played 1, 2, and 4. 1 was fun, but the whole eating thing made it too easy to lose your Digimon. They didn't give enough meat. 2 was a major improvement, and I liked the DNA/Jogress system that heavily increased the life of the game overall(something similar is in Dragon Quest Monsters, where if you Breed two Monsters, they disappear and one Egg appears in its place to hatch. Same overall concept, just a different name, pretty much). 4 was... pretty meh. While I like Gauntlet-style games, it was overly difficult and not very polished at all. The Digimon selection was fairly decent, at least.

One thing you can says about Digimon as a whole, whether the anime or the games, is that it's always changing up the formula.

Pokemon tweaks things a little here and there, but mostly keeps things the same. But Digmon tries something completely new each time.

Whether this is a good thing or not depends on where you stand.

Personally, for me, it is the epitome of A Good Thing, as Pokemon being Strictly Formula for the most part is easily my biggest criticism against it. However, this is not the Pokemon thread (which is fricken ginormous), this is the thread for DIGIMON WORLD!

Also, HOLY SHIT I MANAGED TO RAISE A SKULLGREYMON! Although I admit I cheated a little and used some stat-boosting chips to get him.

If the Stat-Boosting Chips are available naturally in-game, it's not cheating.

In fact, that's often the only way to get some Monsters(including in the Pokemon games. Just try to get Tyrogue's Evolutions without using those... it's super difficult).

It's slightly cheating because Honor Before Reason.

But they are obtainable naturally, yes.

A lot of bosses that go to the city drop a chip to increase a stat on their defeat. Further, ShogunGeckomon is a collector of the in-game Digimon Cards, and will award merit points in exchange for them (either 1, 5, 10, 30, or 100 points, depending on the card and its rarity). He will then let you buy stuff from him for those merit points. For 800 points, you can purchase another stat-boosting chip.

[up][up][up]

Well, I would argue it works for Pokemon; they found their rhythm, and they stuck with it, adjusting things in order to perfect it.

That being said, you are right. This is not the thread for it.

I kinda wished I played more Digimon games. Again, if somebody released Redigitize here, I'd go for it without a doubt.

[up][up] Fair enough.

That said, I also do love the odd lines that show up. Like Myotismon coming from Angemon(something I adopted for a heroic character called Myo, after the Digimon himself). Albeit, I recolored his various lines to be red(meant to be a Data line, arguably), with a total of 3 full lines(Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, Mega, and Armor, but no Burst Mode. Unless someone can think of some good choices for VenomMyotismon, MaloMyotismon, and Seraphimon...). Also, DemiDevimon can legitimately go into Magnamon. Yeahhhhhh, strange. I don't mind he can go into Angemon, since "redeeming himself" after being a Fallen Angel is not that odd. Applies for some of the other Devimons variants. Many can go into the Angemon line.

[up]That's interesting, since in Digimon World 1, the standard way of getting Devimon (i.e., without a Digivolve Item), is by raising an Angemon, making sure his Discipline is less than 50%, and then making him get his ass kicked in battle and lose one of his lives, causing him to Digivolve into Devimon.

Well, he's literally a Fallen Angel.

Also, for the record, Malo and Venom have a small slew of Digimon they can go into. Either of them can go into Beezlemon Blast Mode(which I think works best for Venom since he has the Wings), but I still need a Digimon who seems like a good Burst form for Malo himself. I think SlushAngemon(going by official titles, even if they suck) works well for Seraphimon.

.... SlushAngemon Whuzzat?

Also, I personally found Devimon to be a far more devastating combatant than even Angemon was - both of them can use Megalo Spark, but unlike Angemon, Devimon can also powerup his Offense using Muscle Charge. Which is my favorite buff move, even surpassing Full Potential (because Full Potential is limited to certain Ultimate Digimon).

SlashAngemon's Dub name in Digimon Fusion. GuardiAngemon is the same Digimon as well.

And yeah, Devimon tends to be a powerful foe regardless. Although in the first card game to come to America, he was somewhat mediocre at best. The one that outright had a "Royal Knights" deck as well as Hybrids that could come straight from regular Digimon DNA's. Like Leomon + 2 Ultimates for Lowemon(if I remember correctly).

i have been playing digimon world redigitize, but i cant quite get into it. i know, probably not the best place to start the series in, what with it being in japanese.

honestly, im mainly just wishing the battle system included more active participation from me. pressing the one of the three buttons available to me right now (attack) is pretty irrelevent because the digimon does that already, and it doesnt make it any more or less likely to succeed at that attack.

Ah, GuardiAngemon. I remember him. He was Kotemon's mainline Mega form in Digimon World 3.

[up]I can't speak for Redigitize, but in DW 1, 'Your Call' basically has the 'mon do whatever it wants, 'Attack' makes them Attack! Attack! Attack! with their strongest move, and 'Moderate' (learned at 200 Brains) has them run around for a second and then attack with a weaker move.

im assuming you get more options the further into the game you get; there are nine slots and only the middle three are used so far.

its just, it is literally just attack, item, and run.

so ive basically been a spectater the entire time wondering if theres any way to stop greymon from...not having terrible timing and getting stunned out of his attack or missing all the time.

the only other available option is to press the square button when the diamond in...one of the corners is full, which is basically a limit attack. sadly, it takes a good long time to charge up.

i guess i could try improving intelligence, see if that gets me any more options.

In DW 1, your 'mon learns Attack! Attack! Attack! at 100, Moderate at 200, learns "Distance!" (keep distance and don't attack at all) and "Change target!" at 300, "Defense!" at 400, and at 500, "Attack!" and "Moderate!" are replaced by commands for the actual techniques he has equipped.

Finishers take a while for the gauge to fill, but then you can charge it up with the shoulder buttons before unleashing.

I don't know how much of this applies to Redigitize, though.

Great, now I've been reminded of this game's existence, and now I have to dig up my old Playstation again. Thanks, Obama!

Nothing. That's the joke.

EDIT: Well, more to the point, it's a parody of how certain Republicans bring up Obama as being guilty of absolutely everything that bugs them.
