I too don't like all sports, but this show just made it look more "Damn, I wanna do that!"

[up][up]I dunn, I'm not all that big into sports either, but that doesn't mean I refuse to watch sports movies.

That would be the Nick Toons channe
Nicktoons hasn't been like that in like a decade.

Yeah, that's true. But I think if they tried to make a classics channel, that would cost the company plenty of dollars to create, and even then, it could just repeat itself in the process, showing the same episode of Rocko, Ren & Stimpy, and Catscratch in the morning and again at 8 PM. Would you want that?

Boomerang gets away with it, and somehow has managed to remain commercial free even after their experiment with a commercial lineup.

Edit: surely viacom has access to a large classics back catalogue? Yeah, nowhere near as prestigious as Time Warner between their MGM license, Warner Bros ownership, and Hannah Barbera buyout, but Viacom's gotta have something in their media empire that they could dig up to help fill a Boomerang rival.

Yes, they could.(Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse, You can't do that on television) But they may just make it TOO exclusive to the public so you have to pay them more for such a channel. Plus, I think you can find 90% of the old 90's Nick series on You Tube at this time and age. I think they even have all episodes of Shelby Woo, too!

I was born in the mid-90s so I'm culturally of the early 2000s. Naturally I have fond and semi-fond memories of Rugrats, Hey Arnold and Cat Dog, as well as The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power and any other Nick show that survived to then.

It doesn't mean I wasn't aware of earlier Nick shows, though. My earliest memory, when I was about 3, is watching Rockos Modern Life - so they were still showing it till at least 2000. Doug was also on at this point, probably in early-morning slots, though.

And Nick at least was conceding that their earlier shows existed for much of that time. The Angry Beavers might not be on the block but I have a copy of "The Newest Nicktoons," which came out in 2001 and has songs from the show. And even earlier, in 1998 - for those who remember it clearly - Nick gave Ren And Stimpy, which had been over for 3 years, a spot on their "Best of Nicktoons" CD.

What I'm saying is there's not really much of a reason people wouldn't be aware of those shows.

I watched Rocket power last night, and I missed how much radspeak was put into this show. Still find Reggie to be the princess of Mary Sue(s).

Oh Rocket Power. I went from being somewhat interested when it premiered to hating it by the end. Otto became more and more of an asshole and Reggie was most definitely an annoying Mary Sue.

And my hyperbole towards Reggie is intended because latter parts of the show went out of it's way to constantly remind us how much of a twat Otto was and why Reggie was better than him.

I've seen a couple episodes of Rocket Power. I honestly can't force myself to care about anything in that show.

Sigh... Kick Buttowski (a show which I'm sure everyone hates for good enough reasons, BTW! Maybe even more than Rocket Power, too.) was more engaging and always felt more like a cartoon to me than Rocket Power ever did, and I'm not even a huge fan of the former, nor was I ever - just too mean - spirited and lacking of humor to really get behind. Rocket Power was worse off, though, in comparision.

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.

[up] I've never been able to understand how somebody could find something boring where things generally move at a decent pace and don't waste their time on tedious things... But that's just me.

The pacing was fine. I just didn't think the plots, characters, or writing were particularly interesting.

[up] Just linguistic misuse, then.

"Uninteresting" does not equal "boring." Much like "clever" does not equal "witty."

I don't know what it is with some people and Rocket Power. I guess i'm just one of those few people who never saw it that horrible until Twister's VA grew up. I'm more supprised that i'm the only person I know who doesn't find anything redeemable about As Told By Ginger except the first episode, but that's another story.

BTW, am I the only one who's ever thought of a Crossover with RP and The Weekenders?

[up] I think the problem with the show is that it's too Totally Radical for some people.

Me, personally, I think it's one of the weakest Nicktoons... but that doesn't mean it was enjoyable as a kid. That doesn't mean they tried to put effort into the show; from what I read in Not Just Cartoons... Nicktoons! the creators tried to keep the focus on the characters, and that's what keeps it from being a Totally Radical mess.

As for Ginger, I actually like that show. It tried to deal with teen-related issues that were serious in nature at times, and managed to do it decently.

[up] As Told By Ginger is one of my favorite Nicktoons of all time, though Hey Arnold does top it somewhat otherwise, for its well done handling of teenage drama and slice of life comedy at that level. Though I really enjoyed the stuff involving Carl and Hoodsie a bit more than the main focus characters, so there's that.

Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.

I guess I just wasn't interested in Ginger's stories at the time. From what I remember it was like Female Doug. Only more into making Wham Episode moments and Growing the Beard.

It's been a awhile since I see the show but how was Reggie a Mary Sue I always thought she was ok but then again I never did hate anyone on Rocket Power I enjoy all the character's really especially Tito.

Almost everytime Otto was involved, Reggie was there to show him up. Whether by being more serious in a situation or by proving she has better moral than he does. She just has a trait that screams "The Chick" or "The Straight Man" or "Sally Acorn related female lead".
