Image just got pulled, seemingly without discussion for being JAFAAC. Now, it's not really wrong, but I do have to say that the image isn't bad enough to pull without any replacement. The character does look... generic, in a very 90's way. He vaguely looks like he exists to mess things up, but I can't see him ever debating the finer points of ruling with anyone. He's also charging, so that's also something above being just a face.

That said, I'm sure we can do better. I do think it's weak, but still better than nothing. Also could probably stand to be a bit bigger.

I'm not really seeing how you'd illustrate this with sufficient context.

I was the one who pulled it. And yes, there's not enough context for Doomsday. For someone who's completely unfamiliar with Superman, he might be a Genius Bruiser.

I would say Keep Until Better Image Suggested, but only so much ... it looks like a generic destroyer figure without any other traits.

The blank gray background helps with that, in my opinion.

Like I said, I don't think it's a great image. But I think it's better than nothing.

In this case, I'm not sure that a non-illustrative image is, in fact, better than nothing.

Generic Doomsday Villain is about a villain who wants to destroy the world without any good motivation. The image is just "Muscular gray guy covered in ice", which covers only the "villain" part since he is evil-looking, but does not cover the "no motives for destroying the world" part.

And it's impossible to show motives, or lack thereof, in a static image that isn't covered in text.

The Doomsday pic is JAFAAC; no ideas on a replacement right now.

Certainly looks generic, and it doesn't hurt the page. And I'm not sure it helps, either. And generally speaking, is ice really a common element for GDVs?

I honestly don't think it's that possible to represent the trope in a purely visual manner.

Unless we can find a short comic that illustrates it in both image and word. I think that's the only way to do that.

The guy's name is Doomsday. I found that out when I did a Google search in a futile attempt to find a replacement. Whoever posted it was thinking too literally.

[up]It wasn't too literal. Doomsday is (apparently) the Trope Namer.

I'd say keep as well. Looks "generic" and "evil" enough and lacks other traits that shows his motives.

The fact that he is alone prevents him from looking like a Mook

^^ Doesn't matter, and ditto Rethkir.

Weak but better than nothing, though. Just an Obviously Evil Big Bad I guess.

The trope description says they can be replaced with natural disasters with no loss of characterization. Maybe we could get some mileage out of that angle?

Something like the Terrasque from DnD, Godzilla replacing the iceberg that sunk the Titanic, or any old Kaiju from Pacific Rim?

[up] Very cool pictures, but I would avoid using Kaju. Though they may count, I think this trope is more about characters who act as destructive forces of nature. Whereas those are pretty much just destructive forces of nature.

One thought I want to add: we should be looking for a shot of an Obviously Evil villain standing in front of a "blow up the world" Doomsday Device.

I don't understand why anything in the first paragraph is bad. I like 17.1 best though.

Also whether or not they have a Doomsday Device is not critical, just so it has the threat of destroying the world or a significant part of it.

I like 17.2. It highlights the interchangeable nature of the threat.

17.2 is pretty small-scale. Doesn't need to be the whole world, but one ship?

[up]Well, sinking a ship as big as the Titanic isn't exactly small potatoes. Plus, "giant lizard attacking" is usually a good shorthand for city scale destruction.

I, for one, am unconvinced.
