Sabaton's one of my preferred Power Metal bands. They've done some good ballads, though really, a lot of Power Metal bands do. These days, when it comes to Metal, it's usually the Goth Metal, Power Metal and occasionally Alternative Metal bands who have 'em....
On the subject of Power Metal, have a cheesy but good one, from the masters of cheesy but good:
Melodeath. Interesting... Go on.
Some more, in a Goth Rock angle this time:
The Sisters of Mercy - Some Kind Of Stranger: most depressing-sounding Deconstruction of Intercourse with You ever.
The Mission UK - Stay With Me: though I could just as easily have picked "Severina" or "Tower Of Strength" by them...
And some Jangle Pop:
R.E.M. - The One I Love: not in fact a love song, but it still fits. I could also have used "Losing My Religion" or "Everybody Hurts", too.
The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?: a weird example, but I'll include it anyways...
The Replacements - Answering Machine: perhaps the oddest-sounding thing I've put up here yet, but hey, it is one, IMO. They also have several more I coulda used, one of which I posted earlier.
A lot, I know.
Ooh, rather enjoying the sisters of mercy!
If we're doing atypical ones now...
They were truly a great band. Sadly, they'll probly never release another album. If they do, it'll have taken longer than My Bloody Valtentine OR Guns N Roses to do so... They still tour though, and they play some new songs to boot...
The Whigs. I should have known. They are a great band though.
YES!
Seriously, I can't wait for the new record...
Already streaming through several sources! Fill your boots,

When I'm done converting a streamed version of the first Flesh for Lulu album into mp3s for my library, I'll check that out...
For a second I thought you meant the Metallica thing...
Hell no. Flesh For Lulu are an 80s Goth Rock / Post-Punk band with pronounced Glam Rock influences. Good band, but their records are hard to find online and virtually impossible to find LP or CD copies of. Also, the one I was streaming never even came out on CD.
Much as I love both Metallica and Lou Reed, Lulu really did kinda suck. Metallica didn't try hard enough, and it feels like Lou Reed forgot to write any good songs...
Here's a Thrash Metal one:
Oh, Skid Row have LOTS of great ballads. Whats more, aside from "I Remember you", they were more than just "i love you/my girl left me" fluff:
18 and life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9mzFBsVOsw
Wasted Time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XddO6wr_FgU
Quicksand Jesus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8fYiqKbv7g
Hmm. Fair enough. Skid Row had some good ballads indeed. Also, have some Mercyful Fate:
Seriously, why doesn't this band have an entry separate from the one for King Diamond...?
Quicksand Jesus is a good one, for sure :D
I mentioned it before, but I feel I should post this properly
Here's a pretty cool unreleased Aerosmith ballad:

That is pretty good. Makes one wonder why it was unreleased. I ask that question often.
Just for a point of reference, would "My Immortal" (radio version) be a Power Ballad that DOES suck (has sappy lyrics and really extreme loud-quiet contrast)? I personally like it, though.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I like that one well enough. Evanescence aren't my favorite Goth Metal band by any means (and they're not a typical example of the genre, being rather Alternative Metal influenced), but they're alright. No complaints here.
I love this. Light years ahead of any other Seether track I've heard.

BADASS.
Oh my god that Sabaton was awesome. Saw them live years ago but never checked them out properly.
