I'd prefer if you dropped the revival aspect altogether.

Okay then. Revised resume:

  • Name: Christopher
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Male
  • Appearance: Caucasian, 6 foot 2, brown hair that he cuts mostly short so he doesn't have to brush it. He wears a T-shirt and khakis most of the time, accompanied by a black jacket or hoodie if its cold enough. He has a pair of red sunglasses that he thought looked cool. He's lanky, and although he isn't horribly out of shape, he isn't exactly athletic either. He usually walks with a bit a forward slump.
  • Power: He has the shard of Hank Wimbleton from Madness Combat, and as such he now has combat abilities on a level of Hank, physical enhancements included (now strong enough to tear off people's limbs - with effort, and through side-arms hard enough to embed them in people's skulls and fast enough to dodge low-caliber bullets). A big issue with this is that Christopher has a thing about blood and killing people, and Hank is always pushing him to kill enemies, which causes quite a lot of confusion among the two.
  • Alignment: Good, but Hank is very strong-willed, and although Hank is technically good, he's also a homicidal maniac.
  • Origin World: Earth
  • Personality: Sort of a four-way mood swing. Sometimes he's quiet and contemplative, usually when he's think of something. Sometimes he gets really irritable and angry. Sometimes he is really talkative and hyper and overbearing. And sometimes he's very kind and cooperative. It depends on what's been going on during the day, but that about sums him up.
  • Bio: regular high school kid, liked reading, didn't get along well with most of the other kids but had a good group of friends. He has always thought life was kind of boring and that he would love to be in an adventure. He has never seen Madness Combat, or really anything else with that much gore.

Looking at the power strength, you listed anyone who can "take down more than five mooks at once" is overpowered. There's a slight problem, Hank specializes in taking down mooks. He's decent at one on one combat and against enforcers, but fighting mooks is what he's trained for and done all his life. Would I be able to balance it out by having Hank and Christopher really not get along? (especially in combat situations, which is where most of the conflict will arise)

The way I was thinking this would be most problematic would be Hank trying to take control in the middle of a fight and Christopher not letting him, so the attack goes wide, or misses, or something else that makes them fail miserably. Of course, as time goes on they'd get better at cooperating, but is this okay?

The problem is that the way shards work is that most of the times, the shard-wielder just gets a new voice in his head. It's possible that the voice is strong enough to take over the person's body, but it has to be a. a really strong shard and b. a really weak wielder. So in the middle of a fight, when Christopher should be most alert and most active to avoid getting butchered up, unless he willfully gives up control to Hank, I doubt anything would happen to him.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

Hank's powers come from over-exposure to an improbability drive, so I think there's a little leeway for a few occasions of that, but okay. Maybe we'll just chalk it up to Hank is giving him the advice and Christopher doesn't want to follow it? Hank's expertise has never been in taking captives, and considering the limit for power, I need to think of something to balance out the fact that he's beginning out with the power and expertise of a trained killing machine. Do you have any other ideas? (Or does the fact that Hank screaming into the back of his head constantly causes problems with non-combat interactions count for enough?)

I think having a voice screaming at the back of your head constantly is putting yourself on a path you're gonna want to stray from at one point.

It seems like most of these problems are coming from the shard... don't you want to change it to something a little less problematic?

I sort of want to use the shard for Hank, what is the particular path that you're speaking of that the shard is keeping me on?

Hank screaming in the back of his head is actually something I'm planning on having some fun with later on once I get the hang of things.

Are we going to run into the character's in question that the shard comes from? I already have a little bit of an idea for some problems in the Madness Combat universe, which is part of the reason I want to take Hank, because I've actually already come up with some OCs to use when that happens.

The main reason I want the shard with Hank is the issues that arise from having Hank screaming in the back of his head, although I guess I could change to something else, but I don't have much in mind right now... Everything that comes into mind has similar problems with Hank, and I sort of want to choose something that'll be distinct... I'll post again when I come up with something.

The path of having the shard and the person being in constant conflict. Trust me, I had a character on the original RP which went through the similar proccess, and at one point, it just became boring having the two personalities fighting for control of the body and I decided to go with the one who was the most fun to play as.

Also, I doubt we'll be going to this Madness Combat universe, to be frank. I'm going for worlds which most of the players know about, and I don't think a lot of the players are part of the Newsground scenario to know about this guy. And if you're just choosing a character based on what can happen if they go to his universe, what if you don't? What are you going to do after they leave that universe?

Not just for that. I had the idea after deciding I wanted to choose Hank.

If we don't go? Okay, we don't go. After we leave? Well that's okay too.

I might choose Deimos or Sanford, but it occurred to me that unless my schedule lightens up a bit, I'm gonna get left behind in everything. I'll post the resume when I'm ready.

Sup, folksies. Figured I'd join in the fun!

  • Name: Pierre Svenland
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Male
  • Appearance: This.
  • Chosen Power/Tech: Ryuk's shard and a damaged notebook from Death Note. Grants Pierre the powers of a Shinigami, allowing him to dematerialize and materialize at will, survive without sleep or nutrients, move through objects, fly, and know the name of any human whose face he sees. Pierre is also invisible to anyone who has not touched his notebook, and cannot be harmed by physical attacks(magic is as effective as it would be against your average human). Although he holds a Death Note, its pages have been completely destroyed, and he cannot use it to kill, and as a result, his lifespan can only be extended by granting a human Shinigami eyes. According to Shinigami laws, Pierre cannot kill without a Death Note, and if he does so, he risks Extreme Level punishment, which will kill him. He cannot procreate, nor can he have sexual relationships.
  • Alignment: Pierre is a good guy who believes in doing the right thing. Nevertheless, he has a strong sense of self-preservation, and he will sacrifice his morality if it means staying alive.
  • World of Origin: Earth
  • Personality: At first encounter a quiet, polite and sort of shy guy, those who get to know Pierre will discover a more hyper, shameless, and weird side. Ryuk's shard has left a few imprints of Pierre's personality, making him easily bored and giving him an extreme love of apples. He tends to be extra shy around girls.
  • Bio: A relatively normal kid, Pierre has lived an average life, joining sports, getting an education, and developing a love for media ranging from literature to anime, nothing of particular note has happened in Pierre's life.

Huh. It seems like a very limiting Shard, in terms of interacting with other players. But if it's what you want, accepted.

Hi there. Prospectively interested, but I have a question. Can a character have a shard that conflicts with their own personal morality (e.g., an evil person having the shard of a good character)?

The shard would be Mary Poppins, and the character would be a dysfunctional, amoral businessman. I'm kind of trying to go for an odd couple type thing here. :P

Okay. Here goes nothin':

  • Name: Lawrence "Larry" Pavoni
  • Age: 48
  • Sex: Male
  • Appearance: Did someone say midlife crisis? Is on the tall side and is a little overweight. He is very pale due to being an albino and tries (somewhat unsuccessfully) to cover it up with spray tan.
  • Chosen Power/Tech: As fate would have it, Lawrence happened upon the shard of one Mary Poppins. Although it didn't make him practically perfect in every way, it did grant him some nifty powers:
    • Umbrella flight: Lawrence now has the equipment (and upper-body strength) to fly around like Mary Poppins. He finds this handy, as he always carried a parasol around anyway to keep the sun off of him.
    • Bottomless carpetbag: Unmanly as it might be, Lawrence also gets Mary's famous Bag of Holding, from which he can summon supplies. It initially came empty, but Lawrence took the liberty of stocking it full of useful things, such as a handgun, booze and his personal belongings. However, it's no easy task to find something right away, and he has to do a bit of digging to get what he wants. He also has a limited supply of doodads, with the handgun being the most dangerous/useful thing in there, so no convenient death rays or healing potions.
    • Magic: Lawrence can also wield Mary's magical powers, namely a mild telekinesis. He can manipulate objects from a distance, though there are limits on size and quantity. He can't really lift anything larger than a washing machine, and his abilities grow weaker when he tries to manipulate several objects at a time. He also can't use these powers unless he (or someone else) snaps their fingers.
    • Mary's practically perfect voice: No, he can't sing like Mary, but he has her delightful voice in his mind. She attempts to dissuade him from doing unethical things and finds herself having to do this quite often, since nearly everything he does is unethical in some way.
  • Alignment: He leans towards Lawful Evil, but the ever-persuasive Mary Poppins often ends up evening him out to Lawful Neutral. He's a stubborn one, though, so don't expect him to outlandish things like, GASP! being concerned for the wellbeing of others right off the bat. Self-preservation is first and foremost for Lawrence.
  • World of Origin: Earth
  • Personality: Smug, arrogant, vain, extremely self-centered and more than a bit of a coward. He fancies himself a shrewd businessman, but is easily flustered and gets very childish and petty when things don't go his way. Despite his unpleasantness, he's fairly well-spoken and has decent social skills. He is also manipulative and is not above resorting to bribery, guilt-trips and dishonesty to get his way. He isn't above killing when necessary, either, but he's very squeamish and would rather not do such a thing himself. He does not do very well in stressful situations and is prone to self-medicating with alcohol.
  • Bio: Born into a wealthy family, Lawrence Pavoni could have settled for just sitting around and doing nothing his whole life. Finding such an existence ill-fitting for a man of such enormous ambitions, he went to college, got a business degree and began work on the business side of a promising pharmaceutical company. Slowly and patiently working his way up over the years and keeping eye on the top, he finally made it to the upper echelons, only to be met with red tape at every turn, as the higher-ups had caught wise to his desire to take their positions. Infuriated at the deadlock and aching for a change of scenery, he took a year off and traveled to London. He expected to have an interesting time there, but he didn't quite anticipate finding an unusual shard and suddenly having a strange woman's voice in his head. His newly-discovered powers have since caused him to reevaluate his priorities and sets his sights on larger things than heading a company; heading a nation, for instance. Much more fitting for someone of his immense talents...
