Suggestion: Boxing Battler

Gundam Maxter◊ from G Gundam.

It's a hard trope to illustrate without just... looking like a boxer, I think. But the giant, inexplicably shirtless robot with the Red Boxing Gloves might work.

Might work, open to other suggestions but this one is okay.

Alternatively, there's the last frame from this strip. Which actually illustrates the "boxing is a martial art, and boxers can be kickass too" principle quite well, I think. Or there's the penultimate frame from the next strip in that sequence.

This one is tough because it almost feels unpicturable or at least not easily condensed down into one single image, none of the suggestions actually fit so far.

I don't see it's that hard. It comes down to "Boxing is a valid martial arts style, and boxers can kick butt with the best of them". Anything that shows someone using boxing motifs or techniques, and looking good and effective doing it, illustrates the idea okay.

I like the Giant Days strips (actually, the whole last five panels of this one really illustrate the point for me), largely for the incongruity (boxing turns a skinny goth girl in a tutu into a butt-kicker), but a giant robot looking formidable with "boxing gloves" is okay too.

Bit hard to work out what's happening there - and would it reduce down to 350 pixels wide without becoming even less legible?

Maybe giving Megaman an uppercut would be better.◊

Either of the last two are good with me, although clarity makes better.

Well, I like the Megaman one better in terms of the pose, but the fact it's in a boxing ring makes it look unclear; more like it's a boxing match than a brawl.

How about Mac giving Samus a liver blow◊?

If we're going for fighting outside a boxing ring, that Sam/Samus one is good.

Personally, I still like the idea of "Boxing: This Perky Goth in a tutu will kick your butt." But whatever - plenty of choice.

The first webcomic pic is right out for quality issues...it's artifacted to hell and back.

True. Shrinking it to 350 pixels wide really mauled that text. I might see if I can get a useful chunk of it without shrinking. Actually, it doesn't really need the text.

Yeah, not terrible. Despise the character after only seeing her once so good enough for me.

I somewhat prefer the more coloured ones.

I like 14/15.7. A boxer vs someone in a Power Armor with a Arm Cannon. Interesting/different art style.

Agreed. Nothing says boxing outside the ring like blowing a kidney off of a woman in Power Armor.

Since nobody that Mac is actually fighting is using martial arts to any extent I don't see how any of them are illustrative of the whole "boxing is a valid martial art" bit.

At least there's some in-universe justification for the Gundam pic, (many of the other G Fighters, especially of the Neo-Asian Colonies, all use some form of martial art to great proficiency) not that you would know that just by looking at the picture though. <_<'

So we need some kind of "clearly eastern martial arts guy vs. boxing guy (bareknuckle or red gloves)" pic then.

The boxer doesn't have to be fighting another martial artist; he or she just has to be fighting effectively in a non-sports context. The trope seems to be "boxing makes someone a dangerous fighter (it's not just a sport)", and a boxer looking credible against someone in power armour or whatever makes that point just fine. Equally, a perky goth in a tutu looking confidently badass or punching someone across the room while wearing gloves is clearly not a sports fighter, but someone who uses boxing to fight seriously and win.

So I still think that any of these pics illustrate the trope pretty adequately.

Though if you want someone using boxing against a Tae Kwon Do fighter... (Frame 3.)
