No, I don't know about that iOS game. What is it?

Yeah, I haven't touched the main thread in weeks. They just move too damn fast for me to keep up these days...

The short version: Disney planned an iOS KH free to play game. All signs pointed to suckage. They canned it.

Anyway, fanfic. So, I made the mistake of reading really dark poetry about Xion, which is why I am now writing a fic where Sora saves her, on top of all my other projects. And I still have to upload a new chapter of Heroics, a chapter which I wrote the first scene of and haven't touched since.

Also considering trying out this excerpt posting thing.

I don't always post excerpts of my work before the chapter is complete. But when I do, I prefer to get feedback. Stay writing, my friends.

@Eva Unit 01: Having read that small sample, I think you did well showing that Xion is still inexperienced. She's done some damage, but she's still learning. Her getting shocked by a Yellow Opera was a good way of showing this.

Also, I'm... bewildered because someone apparently ragequit my fic because my avatar has Riku and Kairi, which they deemed the "worst pairing ever." The icon can be seen as shippy (hell, it is my OTP), but I feel like quitting a fic over an avatar's kinda silly. Still, do you think stuff like avatars affect fic traffic?

I'm not gonna change it just because of one person, but it got me wondering.

I suppose it could. I don't use my Avatar for story pictures, though. Where did you get yours?

Also, which fic was this? What did this person say? Did they post a review saying as much?

Congratulations! You have found the not-so-elusive beast known as the Common Idiot. This particular breed is known as the Shipping Idiot. Most just rage at you, but this appears to be a rarer variety which will hate you for even the slightest hint of a ship they don't like. Interesting...

In all seriousness, I have an avatar of Xion, who has a far worse rap, and I'm pretty popular. You have nothing to worry about.

BTW, I think Riku x Kairi is an interesting scenario.

I just haven't found any images to use as appropriate story thumbnails since Antipode is such a particular AU. Good art of Riku with the Kingdom Key is so hard to come by! But it was the first Antipode fic, and it wasn't a review. Just some random impression on another site, with the dude stating Riku and Kairi are the worst pairing of all... and someone else saying the pairing is cancer. I'm not even sure why people hate it so much when it's hardly the weirdest ship the fandom has to offer. o_o;

Someone actually made me the avatar using this adorable fanart of Riku ruffling Kairi's hair.

PRETTY MUCH. I mean, if baffles me when people let even the slightest hint that someone ships a pair deter them from reading. I don't care for a lot of the popular pairs in the fandom, but I think if a story is good enough and the pairing is handled well, then it shouldn't matter too much.

Also, Xion is awesome. She gets way too much hate, which is why I'm giving her a (somewhat) happier outcome in my fics. Repliku, too.

If there are no further problems, I believe this should be a sufficient transition into the Darkside fight.

Do people still hate Xion, or has most of it blown over by now? I do remember people hating her with a passion before the game was even out, though - that was awful.

As for shipping Riku with Kairi...it's uusual, sure, but it's not even close to being the worst pairing the fandom's come up with. Marluxia/Namine comes to mind...

This is going to sound weird, but I had a few ideas for some KH Alternate Universe Fic stuff.

Specifically there are three AU's, and none of them contain Disney characters, just the Square Enix characters and original characters like Sora, Riku, Roxas, and the like.

• An AU crossover of Kingdom Hearts and Vampire The Masquerade where the characters are re-imagined as vampires from the Old World Of Darkness
• An AU focusing on Riku as an outlaw biker. He's still relatively in-character, but adapted to the biker culture.
• An AU where the KH characters are in a Heroic Fantasy setting similar to Dungeons And Dragons.

I think most of it blew over. It will probably ignite all over again once KH 3 rolls around and she's rescued, though. And now I don't know which is worse, Marluxia x Namine or Sora x Xehanort.

I really like the third one. Potential plot twist: They really are playing Dungeons And Dragons.

Posted chapter three of Unforgettable! It addresses the 'Keyblade-is-sham' scene and has the first Gummi ship sequence. I'm looking forward to your critique.

I like it, said plot twist could also work for the first idea as well.

I do want to see this fic when it's published. I've considered doing an RPG Episode (is there a trope for that? it's fairly common) for Sea-Salt Stories before, but I wasn't sure how I could get it to work.

RPG Episode is a trope, yeah.

And I thought the Xion hate was from the fact that "female fourteenth member of the Organization" sounded incredibly bad-fanficcy and went away once the fanbase learned what her actual deal was.

Sent you a PM about my fic ideas. I could really use some help as I am not very knowledgeable of Kingdom Hearts, being a newbie and all.

Now the argument is "She's a Mary Sue." To which I say, 1) So is Sora, and 2) AH HA HA HA...

So I made another work page. I'm really bad at trope searching. The Reluctant Father Universe only got so big because it's a long series, whereas with Unforgettable I'm only three chapters in... Does anyone have any suggestions?

People were mad because they wanted Days to be about the Organization 13 and Roxas being a badass dual wielding guy like the flashbacks of him in KH 2 hinted at.

Instead most of the game is Roxas being a more mopey Sora, angsting about his friends, one of which was yet another Kairi clone, and most of the Organization guys have minimal to zero roles in the story.

So Days wasn't quite the game people expecially Organization fans wanted and Xion is one of the most prominant reasons they think why.

Some BGM to get me fired up for writing that Darkside fight...

They made up an idealized version of the Organization based on what very little they knew about its' inner workings at the time. They have no one to blame but themselves.

It's uncommon, but is it really that weird? I always got the impression from KH 1 that Riku had a pretty big crush on her, and while I wouldn't call them canon, I think what little we do see of them interacting is really underexplored in KH fics. But idk, I think I'm just tired of seeing the same pairs across almost every multichapter fic. Seems almost obligatory for a trifecta of Sora/Kairi, Roxas/Namine, and Riku/Xion, and while I'm not trying to knock these pairs, I'm a sucker for variety and seeing different character dynamics explored.

Granted, my take's not super duper romantic. Honestly, I just like exploring Riku and Kairi's interactions as a whole, with the ship being an understated garnish that's not a particularly big plot point. Other dynamics I've enjoyed toying around with include Riku Replica and Naminé's friendship with Max and PJ. c: That one was especially fun because Rep got to hang with kids his age, both of whom are living in their fathers' shadows, much like he lives in Riku's.

As for Xion, I see her getting a lot of hate for being "tacked on" or "ruining" Axel and Roxas' dynamic. Some people feel she's too angsty. Others feel she hijacks the plot. Personally? I don't think they would have been able to make an interesting Organization XIII game without the twists Xion brought.

I assume most people don't ship Riku with Kairi because his crush on her lead to extremely self destructive behavior in KH 1, so they view the relationship as unhealthy.
