I recall Roger Ebert once saying he'd be flattered to be played by Hoffman in a theoretical film about himself. Synecdoche, New York was one of his favorite movies.

Aw geez, I'm sorry to hear that.
Truly one of the greats. Synecdoche New York, Doubt, The Master, Magnolia...these films will assure that his legacy will live on.
I am actually really fucking saddened by this. Even moreso by the fact that a lot of people are thinking "OMG! WHAT'LL HAPPEN TO THE HUNGER GAMES!!!??" according to social media.

You can get what you want and still not be very happy.People did the same with Paul Walker and Fast and Furious.
I'd go easy on them. I remember being young and immature, when Heath Ledger passed my first worry was about The Dark Knight being completed.

"Urge to thump... rising." -FighteerDrug deaths are always greeted with petty posturing. "How's this a tragedy? He choseto take em, in'it?"
In fact, this was the second god damn comment on Jezebel, where I first heard about it.
Addiction is a sickness. I mean, I know it's hard for people to pas up a chance to be Judge Judy, but c'mon.
I'm a skeptical squirrelWe shouldn't judge the victims, but we really should judge the Hollywood social system that apparently somehow pushes so many talented people who by all rights should at least be happier than piss poor guys living in ghettos to drown themselves in drugs all the same. How many deaths more will it take before someone decides to do something about 'the influence' in the levels of entertainment elite youth often idolizes and follows?
Only 46, and I can't help but wonder if this was suicide or just an accident. Either way... fucking depressing. RIP, man.
Damn sorry to hear.
As with most everyone else, I feel terrible for the situation and my heart goes out to those close to him.
I do wonder what they'll do for the films he was attached to, like Mockingjay?
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing. He was such a good actor.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.I'm going to honor his legacy by watching Capote tonight. Anyone care to join me?
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I'm amazed this didn't hit on my radar sooner. You'd think there'd be a bigger stink about this, considering how notable he was in the acting biz.
Over a year ago I was hired to do some work as an extra for Catching Fire, and I got to see Hoffman filming. Didn't get a chance to say anything - casting agency kept the extras pretty far removed - but it was still cool to see him. Not everyday you get to see an actor doing his thing. The fact that it sounds like an accidental OD just makes it worse.
I'll be looking forward to seeing what will be his final performance in Mockingjay. Haven't finished the book, but given what I've read we'll definitely be seeing a good amount of Hoffman, and I'm sure it'll be great.

Goddamn it, such a talented actor gone so early. He will be missed.
