I'd say it varies for a lot of people, but a general one seems to be "What's going on? This isn't funny! I DISAGREE WITH THIS VARIANT OF HUMOR, IT IS AWFUL!" and then it only goes downhill from there. Granted, that was merely an exaggeration to make my little point, but regardless, I think a lot of people don't find black comedy or Crossing the Line Twice very funny, so they assume nobody does ever and proceed to whine loudly about it on the internet.
I personally love black comedy, myself. I feel it helps us to deal with the issues we face by laughing at them.
Mel Brooks once said he kept making fun of Hitler so no one could ever take him or his ideas seriously anymore. That, I feel, is the idea behind a lot of comedy dealing with unpleasant ideas. If you laugh at it, if you make it into a figure of ridicule, you can't take it seriously anymore.
But I think we can all agree that horrific events set to upbeat music is hilarious, right?
...Only me?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I am the biggest fan of Cards Against Humanity you'll find. You don't get much (bigger) blacker than that .
I still think most Gross Out Humour is done incorrectly.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceWell, why would you say that? How do you do Gross Out Humor incorrectly?
EDIT: Speaking of Sponge Bob, I think this needs to be brought to people's attention.
Many people think Stephen Hillenburg left the show after the first three seasons and that's why the show sucks now. Far from it, apparently. According to Vincent Waller on his Twitter, he's still involved with the show. He still has input on every story in every episode. He still has to approve it.
So, think of any new Sponge Bob episode you dislike. Remember that Stephen Hillenburg, the creator, thought it was alright by him!

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."When people assume that being gross is inherently funny in and of itself rather than the punchline to a witty joke.
To flog a dead horse, compare say your average episode of Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy or Ren And Stimpy to how "The Splinter" handled gross out. In the former two; the gross out was used to highlight a joke, yes, but it often wasn't the full joke and there was more often than not very clever writing behind the use of it. The Splinter just showed us gross out and pain thinking that was enough for a joke.
It's the same with "randomness" as humour, as making something "random" =/= instant comedy. Compare the best Youtube Poops (like the ones by Deepercut, Waldfeild, Tomservo3 or Walrus Guy) with the works of any amateur "Mama Spadinner" tripe. Oftentimes the best ones are with some sort of interlinking narrative to make the random events all the more funny.

I'm having to learn to pay the priceThanks for your intelligent input! That's exactly how I feel.
If you compare "The Splinter" to Billy and Mandy, Ren and Stimpy or Flapjack, you find that something is lacking, because it's just not funny. The gross thing itself is the joke, and there isn't even any punchline to make it funny. No I Ate WHAT?!, no nothing.
And randomness as humor - the same. Watch Ren and Stimpy, Cow and Chicken, Billy and Mandy, Flapjack, Chowder, Rocko's Modern Life, hell, any cartoon like that; usually there's some thought behind how it works. It isn't just random crap thrown together for comedy.
The episode of Cow and Chicken with plastic surgery, where it's treated like a sport, with a team and competitions and whatnot - that was funny because they took the idea and they ran with it. That is how random humor is done.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Okay, yeah, this topic probably wasn't a good idea to start with, and while at times it was a reasonable insight as to why people tend to overreact on the internet, the vast majority of this thread is, unfortunately, complaining about complaining.
Somebody had to do bring the issue to light. I'm glad the OP did...
Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.Thanks man. You're a great guy.
I'm no longer on You Tube, by the way.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."That sucks, dude. I hope you get over it.
I don't understand why people keep calling you a whiny little asshole, and yet say nothing about the people which this thread is about, the people who constantly overreact to gross-out humour in shows like Spongebob, "offensive" jokes in shows like Family Guy, etc. You have been calm and sensible this whole thread, in direct contrast to the complainers who constantly use italics and BOLD LETTERS!!! to illustrate their point but just come across as a laughing stock. And yet people keep criticizing you just because you have a spine and don't shriek like a little girl every time they see something "icky poo" or supposedly offensive. I really don't get it.
Wait... what!? Your post's been deleted... for addressing the fact that you've been bullied and humiliated? Is this some kind of cult or something where everyone has to be polite at all times and can't say a bad thing about anyone?
Thanks, buddy. Not to sound sappy, but if I ever had a friend on this forum it'd be you. And maybe a couple other guys too.
There used to be a time when there were episodes of shows where I hated the ending, and I ran out of the room every time I did so. But that was when I was a child. I outgrew that, and I can look back on those episodes and wonder what the hell I was thinking, being so scared.
Maybe everyone else ought to do the same.
And I'm not going to challenge the above thumping as I want to remain on this forum, and am trying my damnedest not to piss off the moderators.
You Tube...

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Wait on this site or on You Tube?
I mean where your post are being deleted.
That's called "importing drama" and it's against our rules here. You can have all the slapfights and brawls and flamewars you want to with other people on other sites, but don't bring them here.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Yeah, let's leave this topic be. Anyone wants to talk to me about it, you can PM me.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."And yes, this thread is mostly complaining about complaining. It lasted this long because none of the mods read through enough if it. I'm going to lock it down and check a few other threads that may have slipped past the radar.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
At least we're not talking about (Warning: Sarcasm ahead) the horrific dystopian world where us lovers of gross-out and toilet humor, things like Ren And Stimpy and Flapjack and the Captain Underpants books, are persecuted...
But on the topic... What could be the cause of such sensitivity? What do you think it is?
