The current pic on Power Crystal is weak on actually showing what the crystal is supposed to be doing. The thread for Applied Phlebotinum suggested a pic of Metallo and Superman; that seems like it might work better. Unfortunately, I lost the link to the pic...as soon as I find it, I'll post it.

EDIT: Here we go.

I can't find that thread either, so here's some Metallos! wink

1 Clark Kent as a Metallo taking down "King Superman" (It's one of the Superdickery covers, but has good text). (Edit: #2 was the same as above) 3 All metal Metallo. 4 An Alex Ross page. 5 Metallo using an energy blast.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have something that's far more associated with Kryptonite Factor. The trope is about a power source, not a weakness. Sure, that particular character uses it as such too, but that's not what the suggested images show.

[up][up]As much as I love Metallo I've got to agree.

I know in Code Geass there are more than a few shots of the Sakuradite crystal in the Lancelot spinning about and powering the thing.

I'm not in a place to be collecting images but if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can find a decent screencap that'd work I think.

I'm fine with current. The fact that there's three crystals, one glowing and two... doing nothing helps illustrate the broad range that this covers.

Though honestly I'm surprised that "wearing crystals that don't even do anything" are part of this trope.

Keep Until Better Image Suggested on current. It's not a stretch to believe the huge, glowing gem in the front of the Humongous Mecha is the power source.

That, and I'm a shameless Escaflowne fan.

If it's not the powersource, then it's a weapon... which is also covered by this trope. Plus the other two gems that are just there are also, apparently, covered by this trope.

I'm only going to support switching the images on the basis that the current is blurred and artifacted to hell. I'm not really a fan of the suggestion, though.

Yeah, of those, that's the best one. Almost just a quality improvement of the current one.

Any options which aren't from Escaflowne?

I dunno about the second Gundam pic (never saw that series) but the first Gundam pic isn't an example; the Gundams in Gundam Wing/Endless Waltz were powered by fusion reactors. That's just Wing Zero with fancy lighting on its green bits.

I like the Power Ranger's coins, though the one where they're floating makes me think of killer icicles. wink

I have no clue what's going on in those Power Rangers images, the mention of "coins" just add to the confusion.

[up][up] they were Power Coins that turned into Power Crystals if you put your hand over them, said the magic words, and pulled them open.

And icicles wasn't the thing that came to mind when I saw them! Ahoy-hoy!

Knock it off Paktra, perving is not becoming of you. I guess they work when laid out but... lacking the power element if they don't lack the crystal element.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] Still an example, though (largely because, well, the trope is hilariously broad).

Lenses or emitters count for the trope, whether or not they actually do anything. Wing Zero's jewel in the center seems to be entirely cosmetic, but it's still technically an example.

... yep.

[up][up] I'm sorry but that's what I seriously thought, Honest treelo, I even got nervous just suggesting them because I thought that's what everybody else would think too!

Remember this is from the show that got a lot of flak on You Tube because one of the seasons costumes looked like The Klan crossed with the Taliban. White Ranger Power!

You're talking to someone who has an incredibly faint memory of what MMPR involved so can't play the "fans be cray cray" card with me. And I wasn't thinking that!
