That is exactly what I want to see.

Oh, look, an ambiguous page-topper. No, I am not going to go back and quoteblock what I was referring to. I live in a car and post from a phone. That is a lot of work on a touchpad. Deal with it. tongue

So I finally saw a game play trailer and explanation of this game today. It has a lot of promise.

Yeah, it does. I really hope it's good, it's been a while since Lotr had a good game.

Not just that but a game with strong stealth elements with a well developed fantasy setting would be much appreciated.

So apparently we can send chieftains death threats. There are also now runes that you can give your weapons.

Is... is that big white thing an Orc? Looks too humanish.

I'm still trying to work out where this "fits". Don't get me wrong: love the look, enjoying the idea behind the game (Finally, a world where your actions actually impact the enemy you're fighting beyond a linear narrative!) but they seem to be moving away from the Orc look populised by WETA and more to...

Well, whatever the big white fellow was.

Another wraith possessed? A more "pure strain" Orc?

Or maybe i should shush and just enjoy being Ezio in Mordor...

Tons of them actually look like orcs, thankfully. And that's just a trailer guy anyway.

That guy looks like a evil human with pointy teeth.

The other orks looked quite Orky so it looks like he is some sort of special enemy. From the trailers dialogue it almost sounds like the main protagonist.

Lets hope it lives up to its promise of the players influence on the enemies.

He might be a Black Numenorean, perhaps. They're men descended from the ancient kingdom of Numenor (much like Aragorn) who chose to serve Sauron (not so much like Aragorn). Alternately, he could simply be a man from one of the southern kingdoms that Sauron has treaties with, though he looks a bit too pale for that.

If he's Numonean, then that means the game goes into more lore than the movies did...

Thumbs up for that! But I suppose it just seems a bit jarring to see something so human on the evil side... after seeing all the corrupted and twisted Orcs.

Also, the main character's VA sounds like that mage you meet in the Fade in DA: Origins. Which could be a weird bit of actor allusion: mages get possessed by demons, this guy possessed by a wraith.

Well "War in the North" had a Black Numenorean as its Big Bad, so it's not all bad. And I'm pretty sure the Mouth was also a Black Numenorean.

As Thorn14 pointed out, it screws with the lore a bit which I don't like.

Unless, it's set after the LOTR trilogy at which point it's kind of fair game.

Also, wild mass guess Talion is going to become the new Dark Lord. Evidence: Melkor(Valar) had Maiar lieutenants, and one of them replaced him as Dark Lord when he was defeated. Sauron, said Maiar had human and orc lieutenants. So a human is going to become Dark Lord. Also, the person who starts him off just screams The Corrupter to me.

To be honest even the ghost seems rather evil to me...I wonder if the game will end with a Battle in the Center of the Mind.

I couldn't care less if it isn't perfect lore. It really doesn't matter in this case.

Yeah. I doubt it even takes place during the time of the movies, considering that at the start Talion is one of the Rangers guarding the Black Gate.

From some people's perspective it does matter - magic isn't big or fireballsy in LOTR, also possession and Wraiths seem to be associated with the Nazghul and those chaps in the Mountain. So it's an interesting take on the Universe.

This whole relationship system could be used anywhere, interesting that they use LOTR as a franchise; yes there's the Hobbit films coming out, but the hype for it seems to have faded now.

Mind you, probably safer to use this than risk it on a new, untested IP.

Strangely, I didn't mind that it looked and moved a lot like AC... that was a good thing. The Wraith thing seems to be only a reason for why the orcs HAVE to follow you. Either way, it'll be interesting to see where this fits in terms of timeline.

I really don't care about their perspective especially when it involves obsessing over lore.

I am kind of interested about the wraith possession and am kind of in the same boat in thinking it is not necessarily a good thing. The other wraith creatures were not all that friendly or good either iirc. So this could be quite interesting to see what unfolds for the character as you play in. I am thinking you will find out you are walking a darker path. Which seems to be the tone of the game. The things the character is doing is kind of ugly and also brutal.

And your point is what? Just because they are orks doesn't mean cruel or evil actions against them are not cruel or evil.

Yeah, I don't think the Wraith is going to be a good thing. Could be a bit like Divinity, the one with the demon sharing the body.

I think Tuefel has a point on the lore - most people's only frame of reference is the movie these days, but still, let's hope they keep things in the same sort of tone.

I will concede it should follow the lore closely enough that it is believable we are in the world of middle earth just not that it needs to be obsessively followed.

I almost get a Tenchu meets Assassins Creed vibes from this.

Even if the character turns out to be in way over his head with something questionable it looks like great fun. Playing a morally questionable character is usually rather entertaining.

It mildly amuses me how this game's title is heavily present in a Sabaton song. Maybe they could use it in one of the trailers.

In either case, I'm digging what I've seen so far.

I wonder how often I'll just make minor warlords into my slaves and help them rise up the rankings or cause huge civil wars with each other for kicks xD
