Roleplay thread. Discussion thread.

They say war, war never changes.

But the ones who said that didn't expect the 21st century. Yes, with our recent technological advancements, we've been able to delegate the sad part of war- the killing- to machines. Drones, remote controlled bombs, air strikes... suddenly, war becomes much more easier. We don't even see the enemy we're supposed to kill. Of course, the general population doesn't see like we do. They accuse us of being monsters for using machines, without realizing that those machines are the things that keep their families safe and inside the country. They want war to go back to the way it was! But... then again... don't we all?

Don't we want the good old times back? Do any of us think the government would have been able to rally so much help during World War II if instead of people they were sending robots to fight? We need to bring humans back to war. But we don't want to send our people to war. We don't want bright young minds to die in the front lines. We want the warmth and reality of using humans... but with the safety of using machines. Ladies and gentlemen, the answer is simple: genetically engineered humans.

Through the advances of science, our Company has been able to produce humans- but not just any kind of human. Superpowered humans. Straight out of comic books and movies, I present the future: humans who can breathe fire, who can grow wings, who can regenerate, who can see the past... humans who break the limits... and just like machines, we don't have to worry about losing them on the field of battle. We can just make another batch. Both problems fixed with one superpowered blow!

However, while developing these humans, my scientists found a few problems. Our first batch was made of superpowered adults... but they lacked humanity. They didn't have any emotions, they didn't have any knowledge... they didn't even know who they were supposed to shoot! We had to make adjustments. The next batch? Babies. Each one of them holding the key to the future, the power to change the tide of a war. We recruited families to adopt them and give them a normal childhood until they manifested their powers, at which point we would swoop in and take them back to our bases to be properly trained and turned into the greatest soldiers this earth has ever seen.

Gentlemen. It's been eight years. It's time for the kids to come back home. It's time for us to meet the children of tomorrow.

Description

Welcome, to Children of Tomorrow, an RP about kids with superpowers who have to grow up together and face off against the powerful Company. I am your GM, Bean, and I'd like to explain to all of you what this RP is about:

In this RP, you will all be playing as eight to ten year old kids who live in a random town in the United States. What these kids don't know is that they were the results of genetic experiments, and their creators, the Company, is now ready to swoop in and take them back to headquarters. However, something went wrong: the kids have escaped. Some of them were told by their parents to run, some ran before their parents could give them to the Company. But they have all escaped, and are now face to face with many questions. What will you do? Will you run away from the Company in fear? Will you try to expose the truth behind the treacherous Company? Will you try to rescue the kids that got captured? Will you try to find the other kids that escaped? Will you form a group with the other kids or be a loner?

Whatever your choice is, the road is now your home, and the future looks dangerous. Luckily, you won't have to grow up alone. The RP also has an unique mechanic in that it is divided in four parts, and as we progress through each part, the characters will grow up, starting the RP as eight to ten year old kids, moving to twelve to fourteen year old teenagers and so on and so on.

So, let's go over some stuff:

  • How do the powers manifest themselves? The powers usually manifest themselves after the age of eight- that means your kid may be eight when he/she found out he could control water, or your kid may be ten when he/she found out he could eat metal. It depends on your character.
  • When and where does the RP take place? The RP takes place on the city of Trevor's Mill, a typical American city on the eastern side of the United States, in the year 2015- don't worry, there aren't many technological differences between the year you're living in right now and this RP's 2015.
  • What about this RP's universe? It's pretty much exactly the same as yours. DC and Marvel exist. Animes and cartoons exist. History happened in this universe exactly how it happened in our universe.
  • What is the Company? The Company is the name of a major multinational conglomerate of other companies. Run by the Director*, the Company has its hands in every industry in the world, from supermarkets to toothpastes, from cars to newspapers. This also means the Company has its hands on almost every major government in the world. It's a recognizable and widely trusted company- after all, they make your chairs and your computers, why shouldn't you trust them?
  • How does the RP start? In a random day of August, the Company decides it's time to swoop in and collect all the kids in the city of Trevor's Mill, which includes your character. However, before they could capture your character, he escaped to an abadoned warehouse in the industrial district of the city, a warehouse that had been used by the parents as a meeting place with the Company. Your kid may have been told by his/her parents to go there, or he/she may have accidentally heard it from his/her parent, or he may have found out through some different way, it's your choice. Your first post will have the kid's home being visited by the Company, the kid escaping and arriving at the warehouse.
  • What powers can my kid have? Nothing's off the table. However, before you write down your power, think about one thing: if your kid can take down a group of four highly trained soldiers without any training, then your power of choice might be a little too overpowered. But I'm always open to discussions.
  • After the kids go to the warehouse, what will happen? That, my friend, depends on you and the other players. There'll be many paths, and you guys are the ones who'll choose which one to take, either alone or as a group.
  • I want my kid to have power X, but this other kid already has it! Two kids can have the same power, but I recommend you ask the other player first, and then also try thinking about any other powers you might want to use. It's nice to be unique.
  • Rules? The basics. Don't be a dick, listen to the other players, listen to the GM, don't be a dick, don't ghost, don't godmode, don't post for other players, don't be a dick, and, oh, did I mention don't be a dick? Cause you really shouldn't.
  • I understood what you just said, but I have some questions. I'll be happy to answer them.
  • I got it, I got it! Where's the sheet? Glad you asked. Down there.

Sheets

  • Name:
  • Age: (Between eight and ten.)
  • Appearance: (Descriptions are okay, as well as pictures. When choosing your appearance, remember that your kid will grow up in the RP, so also think about how he will look older.)
  • Personality: (Don't give me one-word descriptions. Seriously.)
  • Powers: (Like with the appearance, remember that your kid will grow up and get stronger, so also think about how your power can evolve.)
  • Abilities: (This is dedicated to more mundane things. Cooking, writing... but remember, your character is a kid.)
  • History: (From adoption to the night just before the Company came knocking, tell me your kid's history. Tell me about the parents too, or any friends your kid might have.)
  • Other: (Maybe he has a craving for spaghetti. Stuff that doesn't fit anywhere goes here.)

  • Name: Kaitlin Abbey
  • Age: 9
  • Appearance: "You're all just a bunch of idiots..."
  • Personality: Kaitlin is quite a grumpy girl. She feels she is more mature then many people she knows, including those who are older than she is. She is highly sarcastic, especially for someone of her age, and she has a low tolerance for what she proceeds as stupid. However, Kaitlin is not completely caustic to everyone around her. She's friends with Claire, though she sometimes derides her friend if she feels she has done something stupid or weird. Still, she is fairly close to Claire and does not want anything bad to happen to her whatsoever. Anyone Kaitlin cares about gets admonished more then usual, really, because she thinks it keeps them out of trouble. She's a little lazy when it comes to some things, like fixing her hair after she sparks, or homework(because she thinks it's dumb).
  • Powers: Kaitlin possesses the ability to manipulate electromagnetism. At the moment, it manifests as small bursts of electricity that can stun, though she has the potential for other simple applications of this power at her current age. She also sparks when angry.
  • Abilities: Kaitlin is short for her age, although not by too much, and she exactly average physically. She's fairly intelligent, but she hates doing homework and finds it to be very stupid. She often tries to get Claire to let her copy it.
  • History: Really, there's not so much to say. Kaitlin was adopted by a fairly average family, developed into a very tiny sarcastic person, and made her utter disapproval of all things homework widely known. Frequently. Though, recently, she's noticed that she tends to spark when irritated. She's very sure that didn't happen before.
  • Other: The frequent static and sparks around her do a number on her hair, and she doesn't like fixing it. Also, her eyesight is rather poor without her glasses.

Um, major WiP, eh-heh, but, um, yeah.

Whee, first to finish~

  • Name: Claire Branstead
  • Age: 10. Notably, is the oldest of the children.
  • Appearance: I will draw her again once she grows older. I kind of want to make a little age progression thing, since that seemed like a neat idea.[lol]
  • Personality: Kind and caring, Claire is pretty much a Cool Big Sis to all of the other children. She feels like she has to be; after all, as the oldest she has to take responsibility. She tries her best to keep peace between the others, and to keep them safe from anything that would harm them. However, she's also overprotective. Do not try and hurt the other children, or anyone she cares about. If pushed, Claire will not hesitate to do all in her power to stop you. Despite this, she would rather stick to the sidelines; she dislikes violence, and believes her power to not be all that impressive or powerful anyway, so she'd just be a liability.
  • Powers: The ability to psychically manipulate string.
  • Abilities: Claire is an excellent cook for her age, even if she usually has to have someone older chop things for her. She's possessed of above average intelligence for her age, and usually gets good grades in most subjects. Her phsyical abilities are decidedly average; she's by no means unfit, but she's no star athelete either.
  • History: Claire's life was... Average, to put it best. Her adopted parents weren't abusive, but neither were they overly affectionate. There's really not much to say, honestly. She has noticed that her parents have been acting rather strange lately, though, talking to her as though they'd never see her again... On the other hand, she's also learned an amusing magic trick that her friends seem to like: making a piece of string dance about on its own. She has no idea how she actually does it, though.
  • Other: Her pure white hair is the result of a secondary mutation; she has no real problems with it even if some people tease her for it. Other than making her hair white, this mutation confers no extra abilities to her, and does little more than mark her out as "different".

  • Name: Michael Landon
  • Age: 10
  • Appearance: Michael is somewhat tall for a kid, being a young person who very much enjoys sports and physical activities. He has bright blond hair, sky blue eyes, and a typically big smile. He just plain radiates Nice Kid. He has a confident, easy going stride to his walk. He usually wears a blue hooded jacket over a sleeveless black shirt, the sleeves on his jacket at times seeming too long for his arms. He wears jeans and sneakers with Power Rangers on them.
  • Personality: Michael is a very nice, confident and resourceful boy. His mother and father have taught him to be a kind, decent individual, and he is always thinking of how to help others. He's not afraid to run in and help someone out of a difficult situation. Indeed, it seems he's already developing quite a backbone and a determined personality. Michael loves sports, anything that involves moving is in his interests. He even needs to do jumping jacks before a test to make sure his mind is not sleepy, being a very kinesthetic learner.
  • Powers: Michael's power is called Control Barrier early on, and it simply lets him create barriers that stop attacks. A purely defensive power. However, as he ages, it develops offensive uses. He develops the ability to "shoot" a barrier at people, which is a harshly strong concussive attack. Still older, and he can manipulate factors of the world that come into contact with his barriers, such as water, wind or other existing things. He can even redirect gunfire. At his zenith, Michael can manipulate things that come into contact with his barriers at much greater detail.
  • Abilities: He's a sporty little guy, and has a knack for problemsolving. He also seems keen on trying to be the leader in situations.
  • History: Michael is a, by all accounts, perfectly normal kid. He has a loving mother and father, who have a happy marriage, and unlike his peers in some regards, he gets along very well with his little sister Bethany.
  • Other: He likes pizza. He likes pizza a lot.

I'm thinking of joining up as someone with a support role, like someone with a power that isn't directly applicable to battle but increases everyone else's powers when he's around.

Or another idea, maybe some kind of animal empath. My character could start out as a kid with a closer than normal connection with a pet dog or something and gradually discover that he can take over animals' minds. So basically like Bran Stark, but (initially?) without the crippling paralysis.

@Anno: Accepted.

@Moerin: Accepted.

@Nick: I'm gonna need more information on his powers. What kind of bladed objects can he summon? What kind of damage can they do? And are there any limitations apart from the number of objects he can summon?

NickTheSwing Since: Aug, 2009
#8: Oct 10th 2013 at 7:36:57 PM

Okay. I'd be glad to elaborate.

At ten, he can summon knives, swords, or spears. They are summoned sharp and capable of cutting into people, and when made to shoot at people, they are fired in a straight line from where he summoned them around him with a good deal of force behind them, almost like being shot as a bullet. He starts off at ten restricted to the three above, and as he grows older, what he can summon broadens, as well as the number.

Is this okay?

Wow, that sounds... incredibly overpowered. Sorry, unless you can considerably nerf it, gonna have to say no.

How about, at ten and until considerably later, his aim is really, really terrible. Like, cannot hit the broad side of a barn terrible.

Alternatively, maybe you could nerf the number of blades, or their speed? That way he can be skilled without being overpowered / a possible friendly fire risk.

Double post, but here. -n-

Some people here are going to recognise this character maybe, but it's a heavily-reworked version of someone that I really enjoyed playing in another RP. smile

By which I mean her backstory is necessarily entirely different, which means pretty much everything else about her is different by extension. tongue

  • Name: Eliza Wren
  • Age: Eight
  • Appearance: Eliza is small for her age, with a slender, agile frame. She has pale skin, shoulder-length black hair and dark blue eyes. Her features are somewhat delicate-looking. She wears blue ribbons in her hair. She refuses to wear ribbons of any other colour, and once threw a tantrum when her sister borrowed them.
  • Personality: Before losing her family, Eliza was a friendly, energetic girl. Her lack of foresight used to make her prone to getting in trouble, but despite that, she is neither stupid nor mean-spirited, so much as unaccustomed to thinking about the consequences of her actions (much like the average eight-year-old). She has always been somewhat dependent on her twin sister, Miranda, and her sister's kidnapping has caused her to withdraw into herself. At present, she lacks the emotional fortitude to fight unless pushed into a corner, and prefers to run away from serious conflict. She fears being alone more than anything.
  • Powers: Theoretically, Eliza possesses superhuman speed and agility, superhuman jumping ability, and the ability to create blades from air (these are intended for killing blows, and evaporate after impact). In practice, however, she is only beginning to discover her abilities, and lacks the skill necessary to utilise them properly. She cannot create blades yet, and while her speed and agility are certainly abnormal for an eight-year-old girl, she's still not really difficult for a trained soldier to hit.
    • More about the blades: As mentioned above, each blade only lasts for about a second. The blades are each about a foot long, and materialise on top of the wielder's wrists, pointing forward towards the target. Creating a blade is a tiring process; learning to create multiple blades, and learning to time the process properly, requires intensive training.
  • Abilities: Eliza enjoys math, and is fairly good at it, as far as eight-year-olds go. She is the proud designer of about a million LEGO rocket ships, some of which look kind of kickass. She is involved in gymnastics, and is quite good at it (again, as far as eight-year-olds go). None of her talents are particularly unusual for a kid of her age, but they give her things to brag about.
  • History: Identical twins Eliza and Miranda were genetically engineered to serve as assassins, and placed with the Wren family for early childhood development. A childless couple, Mr. and Mrs. Wren had unsuccessfully attempted to adopt in the past, and were growing desperate; with no other avenues available to them, they adopted Eliza and Miranda, despite knowing that the girls would eventually be taken away from them. The twins enjoyed a happy, unremarkable childhood together, until Miranda's powers began to manifest; realising that there was little time remaining, and knowing that they couldn't condemn the twins to a lifetime of effective slavery, their parents reneged on their promise to give up their children, and tried to help Eliza and Miranda escape.

And, for reference (this isn't a PC, but an NPC that's going to be relevant to my character and therefore probably deserves some sort of profile thing):

  • Name: Miranda Wren
  • Age: Eight
  • Appearance: Miranda and Eliza are identical twins, and as such have the same delicate features and small frame. However, Miranda is slightly taller, and her hair is much longer. Her favourite colour is purple.
  • Personality: Assertive, passionate, intelligent, and more than a little stubborn, Miranda won't hesitate to stand up for a cause she believes in. She has much greater mental fortitude than her sister, not being easily swayed or cowed; however, the downside to this is that she lacks flexibility, and tends towards extremism. She loves her younger sister deeply, but she is aware of her ability to manipulate Eliza, and isn't always above using it.
  • Powers: See Eliza's powers. In terms of relative ability, Eliza would have more inherent natural talent, but Miranda would pick things up much more quickly.
  • Abilities: Really good at spelling and grammar for an eight-year-old. Likes history, and is a bit of a know-it-all.
  • History: See Eliza's history. The one real difference is that, while Eliza successfully escaped to the warehouse by using her powers to run away, Miranda attempted to fight their kidnappers, and was subsequently captured.

For further clarification, I'm not going to be playing two characters. I'm handing Miranda over to Bean, so he can control her when she turns up; the profile's just here for reference. Also, she's not going to show up again after at least one timeskip anyway, for obvious reasons. tongue

Name: Joshua 'Jojo' Jordan

Age: 8

Appearance: dressed up all fancy!

Personality: Joshua is shy, quiet and slightly lacking in confidence and courage compared to most kids around him and he'd rather play a supporting role in the background than take the lead in anything. That said, deep down he dreams more than anything of being a hero of justice, or barring that at least the sort of person people can depend on when they need help.

Powers: The power of Hammerspace, that is the power to shift non-living objects and matter in contact with him into or out of a storage pocket dimension.

Abilities: Jojo begged his parents into letting him take Martial Arts classes by the time he was five years old, though obviously being an eight year old he isn't any sort of Kung-fu Killer. He Has a pretty good knowledge of comic books and superheroes like his fellow member of comics club but also likes Tokusatsu, Anime and Manga since people at his martial arts classes introduced them to him.

History: Jojo was always shy and didn't make any real friends during early childhood, so when he went to middle school he tried signing up for the newly established comics club!...just in time to find out that the only other member was Maximus. Initially the shy and introverted kid and the energetic and brash one had nothing in common, but then the two realized they had a mutual love of everything superhero-related and became best friends, using the Comics Club as a personal hangout. Jojo found out about the meeting place and his planned abduction when his adoptive parents found him on the way back from Comics club and told him to run.

Other: (Maybe he has a craving for spaghetti. Stuff that doesn't fit anywhere goes here.)

  • Name: Anthony Hatton
  • Age: 9
  • Appearance: A small black haired child with tan, brown toned skin, his eyes dark brown to the point of being black and slightly mongoloid in shape, his body normal for the age, though a tad taller than average, and sporting an egg-shaped birth-mark on his lower left ribs
  • Personality: A bit of a difficult child, not that he is cruel, though. Anton happens to be a bit arrogant, a tad of a stuck-up and a smart-ass, sometimes declaring himself as a genius. While he is smart and quick on his thinking, he basically exaggerates with that designation. He has also made a habit of talking back, making him somewhat abrasive to the people around him… Though he is a rather loyal and dependable guy to anyone willing to put up with him, even if he might think at times he’s doing you a favor by being your friend.
  • Powers: The manipulation of paper, though now he can merely move and shape small quantities of paper in the future he might be capable of much more.
  • Abilities: Oddly enough, gardening and botany, as he tended to a rather big yard with his mother
  • History: A normal happy life with his parents, Devon Hatton and Jane Green who happened to be a bit of burned out, hippies who owned a coffee shop, which caused his life to have a couple of odd, but joyful moments. It was odd for them, the concept of Anton’s existence, a little bit disgusting even, but the affable pair made a vow to have this creature and make his life as happy as humanly possible, which was… though part of that was tipping the little kid off before the Company visited, it was planned from the beginning after a lot of consideration.

The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.

  • Name: Robert York
  • Age: 9
  • Appearance: A small, somewhat scrawny kid for his age with slightly unkempt black hair and brown eyes. He tends to wear comfortable, rather baggy clothing, like sweatshirts and jeans. Has a pet dog named Winter who is covered in shaggy black fur and is nearly as big as he is.
  • Personality: Close friends would know Rob as a cheerful, friendly young boy, but he can be somewhat shy and withdrawn around people he doesn't know very well. This is more of a fear stemming from certain pet-related incidents in the past, although the fact that his small size has made him an easy target for bullies is also a factor.
  • Powers: The ability to control animals. Initially this will only manifest as a vague empathic connection with his pet dog Winter, but would eventually extend to temporary and gradually lengthening direct control over him, then other, perhaps multiple animals. At the very highest level, this power may even extend to controlling other humans, though this would be extremely difficult and would likely carry with it some kind of psychological toll.
  • Abilities: Rob is quite intelligent for his age, doing very well in school, but doesn't have much in the way of physical ability aside from being able to run pretty fast.
  • History: Rob grew up an only child living a normal, if somewhat sheltered life with his parents. He got along well with other kids but never really had any particularly close friends. Because of this, Rob always really wanted a pet, just some sort of companion he could play with when no one else wanted to come over to his house to play. Rob's parents eventually caved and allowed him to choose a pet for his seventh birthday. When he chose Winter at the animal shelter, it wasn't apparent that he was anything but a typical, if large dog. But soon enough, Rob grew close to his pet. In fact, one would note that it was actually a little spooky how much they were on the same wavelength sometimes. If Rob was feeling playful, Winter would become a typical Big Friendly Dog. If he was depressed and needed some time alone in his room, Winter would be there curled up at the foot of his bed. And if Rob was ever threatened by bullies, Winter would become protective, even snapping at people who tried to hurt him. In recent days, Rob has even been having strange recurring dreams in which he WAS Winter. He tried to brush them off as a sign that he was simply spending too much time with the dog, but his parents did seem oddly distressed about them when he mentioned something over breakfast one morning before school...
  • Other: Despite his animal-based powers, Rob will likely have an average familiarity with technology for someone his age and not have any qualms about eating meat.

  • Name: David Pitris
  • Age: 9
  • Appearance: Tall for his age (to the point people may think hes a year older than he is), brown hair, green eyes. He is also pretty thin and pale.
  • Personality: David is especially shy. He often listens and gathers information before speaking, not out of a sense of wisdom but rather fear. He is quite intelligent and will occasionally go motor mouth if something piques his interest
  • Powers: Density shifting. Specifically he can lower his density such that he can pass through solid objects, right now this is limited to making one limb at a time ghostly.
  • Abilities: He has some talent with puzzles and is good at hiking
  • History: He had a fairly normal childhood. His parents were very kind and showed him a fair amount of movies they liked. Aside from that he just had a normal life, got bullied and made a few friends just like any other kid. For him the only odd thing that's been happening lately is an increased tendency to fall out of his bed.

  • Name: Kyle Jackson
  • Age: 10. Probably the oldest boy since he's not too far from his 11th birthday.
  • Appearance: Like this. Kinda on the tall side, wears an orange shirt with this design on the front and tan cargo pants with reversible black/brown belt. His shoes are just regular tennis shoes.
  • Personality: A kind soul. Still rather goofy and irreverent like most children, but as a result of his power actually has a mind beyond his years, masked by knowing that there's no benefit focusing on the negative side of this life and acting down, so he always acts positively. He enjoys talking about fictional things like movies and video games to the real world. However, he also knows full well just how much trouble they're in, and won't try to do things that mess things up for everyone. He is always thinking. He likes exiting things like roller coasters (though he's slightly too short for some of them) and the carnivore exhibits at the zoo. So to others, he just seems like a regular kid with way too much energy.
  • Powers: Hyperintelligence/superbrain. Right now it involves having memorized basically all of Wikipedia, Wikia, Project Gutenberg, and knowing how to use any language flawlessly.
  • Abilities: Has played baseball and soccer since he was in kindergarten and is pretty good at them. As a result of his power, he's also very good at schoolwork, though he tended to make sure to do homework, write essays, and answer standardized test questions in a way that gave him grades that fit in line with a slightly above-average child of his age, so as to not alert anyone to him.
  • History: Was given to a loving family including his mother Shirley, his father Sam, his uncle Hugh, and great-grandpa "Gramps" Daniel. Did the usual kid things, like playing catch with his dad, going to the amusement park, and visiting the zoo. Some time around eight years old, his mind just wouldn't turn off. It was always thinking. He spent sleepless nights absorbing as much information as he could from the library, internet, and television. One day, his dad ran into the living room as he was watching the latest Mythbusters with a baseball bat crying and screaming "Get outta here Kyle, run! We'll hold 'em off," while Gramps rolled in on his wheelchair mentioning "those goddamn Nazis" as he loaded his trusty shotgun.
  • Other: Knows that Return of the Jedi is the best film of all time. His favorite food is ox tail.

Name: Alex Kerry

Age: 9

Appearance: His natural form.

Personality: He tends to underestimate himself- he's quite capable, but despite his secret past, he's always felt that his sister Stephanie was a lot better at most things than he is. He doesn't resent her for her success though, and in fact looks up to her. He has a vivid imagination and enjoys stories of fantasy. He also likes watching football.

Powers: Alex's power is that of shapeshifting; he can change his physical appearance into that of any human of about his size whom he has seen. In order to best duplicate a person, his mind has a special memory for the appearances of people. It is also possible for him to become shrunken-down versions of larger people (though this tends to look pretty odd unless their faces are youthful enough), or even fictional people if his mental image of them is strong and realistic enough (so it works better for CGI or video game characters that look close to human than for drawings, written descriptions, or more cartoony appearances). Currently, he can't mix appearances up or invent new ones entirely, only replicate existing ones.

Abilities: He likes to play the guitar. He's also picked up some acting skills from helping his sister practice for her children's theatre group, and also likes to write fan fiction for his favorite TV shows (though it's about as good as you'd expect from a 9-year-old)

History: Alex's parents, Jennifer and Mark Kerry, couldn't have kids of their own, so they adopted two: one, Stephanie, through the usual routes, and the other, Alex, through a rather unusual company. They were about the same age, but Stephanie quickly took on the big sister role to Alex. Things seemed normal to him, until one day he woke up in the middle of the night from a strange dream, happened to look in the mirror and saw the face of one of his classmates, who he'd dreamed about. He quickly realized that he could change his appearance at will, to that of anyone he knew- though, he couldn't make himself an adult, exactly. He tried to keep it a secret from his family, but he soon slipped up, and his parents told him about his true origin. After he overheard his parents talking on the phone to representatives of the Company, Alex decided he didn't want to wait to find out what they'd decided to do, so he went to his sister for help. She secretly packed him some things and told him to go to a certain warehouse that she'd occasionally snuck into when she needed to be alone, not realizing that that particular warehouse was one that had been and would continue to be linked to his history...

Other: Stephanie's not going to the warehouse.

  • Name: Alan Chalmers
  • Age: 10
  • Appearance: Just your average FURIOUS TEN YEAR OLD.
  • Personality: Chalmers is not a very mature kid. Brutally honest, he is very moody and feels in extremes. He has little tact and even less prudence, feeling totally comfortable with using his powers like it ain't no thang. He has no sense of irony and fully believes in his threats as promises. Then again, he also thinks of his promises as promises. The first and simplest answer is always the best
  • Powers: Alan can extend four chitinous limbs from his back. They have two joints and terminate in triangular, blunted points, and can lift, press, and strike with about 75 psi.
  • Abilities: Speedy(if sloppy) handwriting, he's in good shape, and he tolerates pain better than normal.
  • History: Alan grew up in a loving middle-class household of parents that wanted him to succeed at things he enjoyed. He like soccer, so he went out for and played the crap out of soccer. He learned that if he wanted something, he could throw himself into it completely and get it. When the inevitable bullies started getting on his case about him being a "tryhard" or whatever, around age 9, his power manifested: they ended up on the floor, screaming about spiders or something. Since then, he's kept to himself a little more, training in secret with his Cobra Conversion; testing its limits and its mechanics. He was just about to come out tomorrow as some kind of superhero when the Company people showed up—he even had a cape and domino mask all ready!
  • Other: Alan has a predilection for rap music.

Jesus, I'm gone for 4 hours, and all this has happened already.

  • Name: Joseph "J.J." Joseph
  • Age: Freshly 10
  • Appearance: FINALLY Eventually, he'll become entirely blue, and soon he'll get shiny and reflective.
  • Personality: Joseph is that one kid that tends to stick to himself. He doesn't have many friends, and is a bit introverted, preferring to stay alone when he can. There is a very low self esteem in this kid. Essentially, he's a Shrinking Violet extraordinaire. J.J. isn't one to talk much, as a result. In fact, since he was born mute, he isn't one to talk much at all, period. So, he decided to write more of his feelings, than expressing them directly. He can sign, but he prefers not to.
  • Powers: Joseph is very VERY resistant to harm, being able to get thrown around like a ragdoll without being hurt. (THIS IS IMPORTANT) Eventually, I plan to have him be a human shield, and possibly more... extreme versions thereof.
  • Abilities: Joseph is unable to speak. Although he can write very well, and wants to become a novelist (Under a pseudonym, of course) when he grows up.
  • History: J.J. wasn't up to much. He knew he was adopted from the start, because of his parents looking radically different from him, small, blonde, attractive people. Not much was interesting, except for his frequent and intense run-ins with school bullies. They ruined his self-esteem, calling him names such as "Mime" and other mute related insults, and were the cause of him being shy. He was beaten up a lot, but didn't care, or didn't want to make a big fuss over it. Well, that and the fact that he wasn't hurt all that bad by beatings that could by other means have put him in a coma. When the company arrived, his teacher, the closest thing Joseph had to a friend, told him that they were looking for certain children. She knew his history from what his parents told her when he was enrolled. Joseph got the hint, and left for the hideout/barn/place that his teacher told him to go to right after school. He's the first one to arrive.

  • Name: Chloe Sin-Claire
  • Age: Ten
  • Appearance: Her latest photoshoot
  • Personality: Chloe is a kind, mysterious soul. Something about just sitting near her and looking at her can calm a person down. She has an endless amount of charisma and charm, and she can hold a room and crowd like no other child can. If she didn't have her looks, talent and money, she would still be able to take the world by storm with her charisma alone. If anything bad could be said about her, she is a little spoiled and naive.
  • Powers: Cloning: Just getting used to her power, Chloe can create a clone from her body. While the clones all act independent from one another, they all think exactly the same and have the same goals and ideals. When she dissipates the clone, she gains all the memories and knowledge it absorbs. As she gets older, she'll be able to make many more clones. If the original dies, a clone can take her place.
  • Abilities: Acting, modelling, singing, dancing
  • History: Chloe was adopted by a famous Hollywood starlet just a few years past the age where she stopped being able to have children. She very much wanted a family, and adopted Chloe at a very young age, probably around 2 or 3. Chloe doesn't remember anything before that. The lifestyle and the personality of Hollywood competently affected Chloe. She has a private tutor, lives in a large penthouse, and has pretty much every aspect of her life taken care of for her. She started doing commercials at 4, and became a regular on a HBO hit at 6. She has gone on to become the youngest ever model to be featured on the cover of Vogue, and just days before the start of the RP, her first movie has premiered. It is already very much in the running to win at the Oscars.
  • Other: She loves video games, anime, and other nerdy things but is ashamed to display this affection.

  • Name: Andrew "Faceplant" Blair
  • Age: Almost 9! Two days away!
  • Appearance: Andrew stands at an imposing... Well, really just average height for his age. He hasn't quite dumped his baby fat yet, so he's got a big round noggin and is a little on the chubby side, but not much. He has shimmering blue eyes that always have a spark behind them and bandaged nose. He's missing his two front teeth and has a messy mop of dirty blond hair that is just short of dipping down into his eyes. He is rarely seen without his favourite orange miner goggles or his fake superhero outfit which is composed of a blue onesie with a big brown 'F' written on the center in paint and a red cape. He's also fond of wearing skateboarding/biking safety pads because he thinks they look cool.
  • Personality: funny Remember that kid who would always make an ass out of himself around others for their mocking approval? This is your little beat-up puppy right here. Andrew will talk smack and crack wise like he was 11 or something. He really just wants people to like him so he'll do whatever it takes to make someone he likes and/or respects laugh. Other than that, he's a really bubbly person who doesn't know how to turn it down a notch, which makes him equal parts annoying and loveable.
  • Powers: HA! YOU FELL DOWN! Essentially, Andrew can create and raise mini-stalagmites to trip up people. He can currently raise up about two at a time without having to really physically do anything while he can do up to four if he slams his wittle feeties on the ground.
  • Abilities: He's known how to write the word "Flamethrower" since he was 6. He's pretty proud about that. He is ready to crack wise about just about anything, as long as it isn't too traumatic. Also, can actually hold his own in a fight. Against other 8-10 year olds.
  • History: Andrew was spoiled by his adoptive parents, giving him goodies and buying him stuff he wanted, knowing he'd grow up to be a warrior on the frontlines in a war. They just wanted to make sure he would enjoy what little freedom he'd get. Now they are starting to doubt if he'll even survive in a military setting. "He's far too soft!" exclaimed the father one night, while Andrew was sneaking into the kitchen to grab a late night cookie or three. "He's basically a five-year old!" Andrew's pride stung so he obviously responded, too dumb to realize what was going on. "I'M ALMOST NINE!" Fearing that he understood more than he really did, the parents sat the boy down and explained what was going to happen. He started crying partly because that's a scary concept and partly because a chocolate chip got stuck in between his teeth and it HURT. So now he was on the run for reasons he's not entirely sure of but he gets to make new friends! Yay!
  • Other: He has a craving for spaghetti. Oh and likes to play video games and ADORES superhero stuff.

  • Name: Violet Thrope
  • Age: 8
  • Appearence: A small and skinny little girl with blonde hair that she hides behind and big, green eyes. She wears pink floral dresses and flip flops.
  • Personality: A Shrinking Violet, Violet hides herself away from public attention, and either cries or faints when put into the spotlight. Underneath all that nervousness, however, is a bright and caring young girl. Kindness and gentlesness will make come out of her shell.
  • Powers: The power to teleport herself places. At first she can only teleport herself a few feet a day before she is too tired to do any more. As she grows older, the distance she can travel increases, as well as the number of times she travel. Eventually, she will be able to take people with her when she teleports. But too much strain will leave her unable to teleport for about a week.
  • Abilities: She enjoys writing and reading, and can read and write for hours on end.
  • History: Was given to a family already full of children. As a direct result of having to compete for affection and the older kids pushing her about, Violet became shy and withdrawn. She had food and a bed to sleep in, but no parental affection. The only affection she recieved was from her surrogate big brother, Jamie Thorpe, who was present when her power manifested itself. When there was talk of The Company coming, Violet slipped off into the early morning and ran away.
  • Other: Give her cinnamon rolls and she will be your BFF.
