Kyoukai no Kanata

Episode 2:

Pretty sure Yuyuko would love to watch a show like this, where almost everyone is a Youmu. Pixiv, DRAW THIS SHIT!

Beautiful execution by Kyo Ani, but while the world is certainly interesting, the writing seems to me somewhat amateurish... The writer seems to have a certain scene inside their mind and wants to write it, but he or she kinda lacks the right idea how to get to this idea or how to connect them with each other.

Why can Mirai stab Aki at the beginning, but has problems later to kill a monster. It isn't really well explained and I hope that this is something Aki will question later in episode three after the Wham line.

For now, my explanation is, that she realized that Aki was a youma and was disgusted by him pretending to be a human to her (also commenting her glasses, those are a momento, I believe). So she stabbed him to force him back into his monster form and go away.

Anyway, I do enjoy this show, because it really, really looks nice and besides Mirai I like all the characters. The humour also is often hit or miss, but in this episode it worked far better.

I think Mirai has some sort of Spirit Warrior fighting instincts, sorta like Shiki. She seems to fight well reflexively, but has trouble when she thinks about it. For example Her hitting the monsters eye the first time

Also, I wonder if Mitsu was the body Aki found at the beginning. If he feels bad about it, that might explain why he puts up with her.

They pay for that youmu sure is suck....

Now I understand what you guys meant by "LN as hell" . Why are those people are as lively as dead fishes?

Hmmm... wasn't this based on a Light Novel that won first place in a contest for new (unpublished) writers?

That would explain the cliche and amateurish feel to the story, as it is in fact written by an amateur.

Doesn't mean it can't be a decent story, but I'm not expecting a storyline like Madoka or something.

Episode 2: Much better than the first, though that may be because the gorgeous fight scenes got on my good side. Not that that was the only good thing about the episode— nothing is as good a motivator as the prospect of unpaid rent! Also Mitsuki, while a character I've seen before, still entertains considerably. The setting is still your basic urban fantasy setting, but Kyo Ani's deft enough with the execution to enrich it.

Episode 3:

• So youmu are the darkness in people's hearts given form. At least people don't transform into youmu.
• The Hollow Shadow's influence is that dangerous, huh? It's like a natural disaster.
• Ah, Mitsuki. Crushing two birds under a boulder.
• So, this Sakura person...I assume she's the sister of Mirai's friend. Because why else would she be hunting her down with an intense blaze of vengeance? Also, chainsaw-gun.
• Hiromu, beating down youmu with his scarf.
• So, when did Akihito get there in time to save Mirai from getting cleaved?

I know right? She had to run and hitchhike while he's just causally preparing dinner until he changes his mind.

Still, he should be fine. If you'd need a thousand lives to survive that's about right for him. As long as he can't get possessed our anything.

Episode 3. In which a weapon is introduced.

Mitsu's got a cute pet/familiar.

Mirai's kinda cute denying she wants the money while reaching for it. Though isn't at least part of it part of the Japanese curtesy?

I like how Aki vehemently denies the part about being attracted to Mirai being busty and immediately corrects Hiromi that it's about the glasses. And then goes on the attack by detailing out how he's subjected Mitsu to that. After which she walks in herself. Naturally with glasses. For the exact same reason Aki said so.

That time when Mirai said "unpleasant" was a lot more meaningful. Not in its own meaning, but the intention of it.

So, Hiromi is particularly apt at barriers. Does that count as a Scarf of Asskicking?

You know, a shotgun-chainsaw-voulge has got to be one of the coolest weapons out there.

Yeah, him being there is somewhat questionable.

So, Mirai is a monster hunter who accidentally killed someone. She also stabbed a vampire who took it pretty well. And the blood-bending thing.

At least youmu arn't spirit world warriors who fall into despair. Can the youmu actually do anything to people who can't see them? It's not clear they are actually dangerous to normals.

So, the thing people with a glasses fetish look for in a girl is that they wear glasses? Thanks Akihto.

Mitsuki, the rare Trolldere. Best one in this show so far.

That was my guess for Sakura also. So....she has a shotgun chainsword? Zombie hunter I guess?

I think Sakura and Mirai Ended up inside the hollow shadow somehow? It seemed like it engulfed them. I guess that is how Akihto got there also? Or he is actually an illusion. That was a big disjointed there.

E Pisode 3: Blood sword, scarf and now gun-polearm-chainsaw. With action scenes to do them justice. Excellent.

In other news, Mitsuki, satisfying glasses fetishists to throw jabs at siscons.

Side note: I like the variety of creature designs shown so far.

How inception-like. I kind of like the nightmare world for being so comprehensible.

Of course. He had to go and get possessed.

She should be dead with that much hesitation hesitation to stab at a vital moment.

So Akihito has one of those shounen evil side triggers like Inu Yasha. But obviously it's not played quite like that. YES I CAN SEE THE PARALLELS, THANK YOU FOR THAT.

200 Yen is nothing. Especially not after all that damage.

Episode 4. In which they fight a powerful youmu. Well, two.

If she can run on her own, she should do so, not just say so.

Saying you totally have a plan sounds so sincere when she turns around to look away while polishing her glasses. Also, I wonder how much she can control blood. I mean, she's got a lot of it on herself, and it would be helpful in cleaning...

Their shoes have rather poor traction.

He's asking her if she's trying to kill her? After being shot at?

That place totally reminds me of Yukari's gaps.

Scary Shiny Glasses.

His youmu side is somewhat strong. And a little bit of a wake-up call for her about him her like she's normal.

That Cooldown Hug was a lot more effective than I thought it'd be. But I did expect one.

Yeah, that rock that was worth 200 yen didn't look like the rock that fell from the youmu they defeated. And honestly, they should be very suspicious about it, considering that youmu, whether they think it was the one they thought or not, should be worth a lot more than that. A switch like that is like switching a Rolex for a watch you find in a vending machine.

I wonder how their relationship will be now. I suspect not much of a change.

Episode 4:

• That was quite a trek in the world of the Hollow Shadow.
• Sakura vanished as quickly as she appeared.
• Of course Hiromu had to have something like that for a ringtone.
• Aki's youmu side sure is brutal. Eeeeeeeee. Of course the cooldown hug would be the most effective weapon against him.
• All that hard work, and Mirai only gets 200 yen!? Appraisal really is a brutal thing. Of course, Izumi took the real deal without anyone noticing.
• Do you look like a normal person? Why of course you do, Bespectacled Goddess, and guy who loves Meganekko.

Hmmm, so apparently the Myon of this show is stronger than the Myon in Touhou. If you must know, I'm simply comparing different halves of Youmu here. Akihito is a Myon himself because he's half a Youmu. I'd rather call him Myon instead of half Youmu. Takes less tongue work

If you want a Touhou comparison, it's relly more on the level of, say, Flandre or Yuuka. But power levels are hard to compare when the universes are different.

Anyway now we know akihito is.......a VAIZARD..yeaaaa

I liked the combination of Cooldown Hug with a side of blood burning to seal the youmu half of Akihito.

Akihito's youmu emergence reminded me of this Bleach moment.^note It's a AMV.

Do you mean Kanbara and Kuriyama?

I have to disagree. Note how Kanbara acts at the end of the episode. He seems fairly upset at the whole, "Tried to kill everyone," thing, and acts pretty coolly to Kuriyama. This is a big deal for him, and it's not exactly new. He's probably done really bad things after losing control in the past, and odds are the only reason he hasn't been put down like a dog is because the people around him fought for his sake, saying they could take him out if need be—which is now no longer the case.

In other words, this is a necessary step. Close friendship with Kuriyama was impossible up until this point.

I suspect we get Mirai joining the lit club. Eh, it's progress I guess.
