Well, projection of gender is just one expression of the natural tendency to anthropomorphize that all people have to some degree. We find it easier to attach emotions onto objects by giving them human traits - this includes gender.

That said, what actually qualifies as a gender trait is highly variable. Part of the joke on Futurama was that Crushinator, for all that she's basically an intelligent steamroller, is considered extremely feminine. But if you think about it, it's Fridge Brilliance - what we consider a feminine trait now isn't necessarily going to be a feminine trait in ten years, let alone one thousand.

In short, the only Mighty Numbers that I feel comfortable assigning a definitive sexuality to are Mighty No. 1, Mighty No. 3, and good ol' Beck himself (again, it's not clear that they're going to say Call is Mighty No. 10 or not). The other Mighty Numbers are probably male (considering that they explicitly called No. 3 "the first female Mighty Number" revealed... also suggesting that Call won't be a Mighty Number), but hey, let's not force a gender duality on an intelligence that has no need for one (genderless is always an option, and as confusing as it might be, a brand-new third gender would make just as much sense as assigning either male or female to them).

Also... come on, less than 80 grand to go to get Challenge Mode! We can do it!

Well, anything is better than giving robots DNA I am looking at you, Mega Man X series.

Applying a gender to a robot in any sense has to be both physiological (Von Neumann machine, hoooooo) and psychological (Female-oriented sense rebalancing and AI response tweaking within operational parameters) or it's just a custom skin.

AFAICT gender for robots is basically a cosmetic thing anyway.

Not much going on today, but here's MightyCast No. 3, featuring Mighty No. 3 and Mighty No. 299.

If a robot is sentient or simulates sentience then it could also be a self-image thing or a matter of designer (in and out of universe)/programmer intention.

Challenge Mode unlocked. Next goal is the extra Stage and Boss.

Maybe she was always a bit of a Card-Carrying Villain beforehand.

While an extra stage and boss are also really neat add-ons, I'll admit to not having a ton of confidence that it'll happen. That's the last reward I really want, and at this point, it's more of a cherry on the sundae than anything else.

There's just over a week left, so I think it's doable. The donations have started to slow down, but at the pace it's going, there should be just enough momentum to get it past that goal.

I was hoping for the online co-op mode, but alas that one definitely won't make it.

I don't see why this couldn't have been a female design. Is there something male-specific about the hat and cloak?
