There's a second playable character in the game, right? How do you unlock that, or is it DLC?
I have a message from another time...Actually, there's two characters besides Beck and it's a little of both.
Call is playable in specifically one level, so I don't know if she's someone you can unlock per se and Ray is DLC with her own story.

Thanks. I'll look up the Ray stuff. Can't remember if she was part of my pledge or not. Likely not.
I have a message from another time...Ray is DLC, but comes with the physical release.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireMighty Gunvolt Burst announced for Switch (June 15) and 3DS (29th).
More explanations by Inti-Creates here.

Surprised that Inticreate still wants to stick with it.
Where there's life, there's hope.I've maintained that MN9 is a flawed game, but one where you could easily see things being ironed out so that it becomes a genuinely great series (kinda like Mega Man in that regard). Given how much fun (albeit too short... that's what you get for a freebie) Mighty Gunvolt was, maybe this is what Mighty No. 9 need to get redeemed.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Personally, I'm in the mindset that while the original MN9 game is essentially not good, the characters and environment can be quickly salvaged when given to more competent hands.
Kinda like how Rom: Spaceknight started off as a toy that was pretty much considered a dud, but everyone loves him because of his comic series from Marvel (and maybe his IDW series).
So it's widely possible that Inti Creates believes they can still make Beck and Co. cool. They just have to not get Keiji Inafune involved. (I mean, they didn't establish how involved he is in this new game, right?)
I'd bet anything that if this Mighty Gunvolt Burst turns out good, Inti Creates may be bold enough to come up with a Switch version of MN9 that nixes most (if not all) of the issues the original game had.

I had a plot for a MN 9 fangame that involved some shady corporation trying to make their own controllable Beck clone, with major modifications (to justify the more complex gameplay mechanics). It would start out as a subtly wrong retelling of the MN 9 Story, but get derailed when something happens to make them decide to attempt to killswitch their Clone. Clone-Beck survives their attempt to 'liquidate their assets' and investigates, discovering their plot and eventually threatening them with exposure to the public eye.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Strangely enough, I too had a plot for MN9, albeit one that'd work better as a comic book series. It'd follow the same story as the game, but with some significant changes. Specifically:
- Beck is established as an all-time wuss player in the Robot Arena games who gets ridiculed in the message boards.
- The Virus spreads the same way, but now it's during one of the robot arena games.
- When enduring the initial robot rampage (aka the first level), Beck finds Call sealed in a chamber amongst the rubble. It would turn out that Dr. Sanda intended to give Call as a surprise birthday present to Dr. White.
- You guys remember that Pink!Call girl who got something of a following from fans? She's in this, but now she's a human and her name is Sakura (sure, it may be an obvious name, but it still works). She's established as the one person who defends Beck in the message boards that jeer him and is the tomboy to Call's girly girl. (More on Sakura later.)
- You guys know that one level where you'd play as Call? That's in here too, but now it's her and Sakura with Dr. Sanda staying behind as Mission Control for the girls.
- You know how Dr. Sanda freaks out when the lights in Dynatron's stage go out? Instead of Sanda freaking out, it's Beck who freaks out (since he's the one who's actually there). This helps in making Beck a lot less bland.
- Dr. Blackwell is still a crotchety old scientist in prison, but there's one person that actually gets him to unironically smile. And that one person is Sakura...because she's his granddaughter, making her Dr. White's niece.
And that's pretty much all I have. I've kinda put it on hold for now.

Man, that Game Soup video explained better than I could all this game's crimes.
And gave me deeper appreciation for its crappiness.
Still better than Mega Man X7.
God help us all.
There were a couple MN 9/Gunvolt crossovers beforehand, too, but they didn't have to deal with coming out AFTER MN 9's poor reception.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I'm pretty sure on the Bit Summit stream a few days back when they announced the game (and with the help of their translator guy), the Inti-Creates crew did say Burst is a kindness toward Comcept.
That...melts my heart to see Inti-Creates still standing by MN 9 despite the stigma on it.
Is Inafune on it?
Where there's life, there's hope.According to the interview linked last page, it seems all Inafune did was give Inti his blessing to use the MN 9 characters again and otherwise doesn't seem to be have been involved in its development at all. And for Inti themselves, this game seems to be more of an appreciation letter towards the characters and world of MN 9 than anything else; whether MN 9 succeeded or failed, I get the impression they'd have made this game anyway. I actually find it kind of heartwarming.
Chances are RAY and Copen will probably be in the game as well, though I kinda hope Ekoro makes in as DLC, if only because she was in the first Mighty Gunvolt (and is in Blaster Master Zero).

Well, they'll be ok with Inafune far away from it.
One Strip! One Strip!Seeing how RAY and Copen already have their own mugshots/Pixek Stickers from the website, the chances are up there. And RAY is part of the Mighty Numbers (albeit DLC) and is received more warmly than Beck in the original game so I guess her chances are (slightly?) better than Copen.
Eroko's 'make enemies your allies' shtick in Mighty Gunvolt 1 is pretty much a gamebreaker by itself. I kind of want it to be nerfed if she makes a return, but at the same time I want it to stay the way it is.
Also, game will be $10. And confirmed to have more playable characters.

is that anime still happening?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Red Ash's is, though that seems to be the only thing still happening.
The Protomen enhanced my life. The first episode of Red Ash is already out. It combines the 3D models to give the characters a 2D animation feel. I haven't seen it yet due to me having a tight schedule but from the screenshots I seen, it looks really good.
To Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Ekoro confirmed to make a return! Still more playable characters coming!

I saw the Red Ash anime yesterday, actually. At first, I thought the 3D models looked kinda ugly, especially with the way the characters moved. However, as the episode went on, I stopped being bothered by it and just enjoyed the ride.
Level-5 has called dibs on Comcept.
Who's crying like an anime fan on prom night now?
It looks like this is the end for the Mighty No series.
Well...it was better than nothing.
Nobody?
I'm not seeing any schadenfreude here, not even petty.

Me again. I said what I didn't like about the game was that it was hard. If you're wondering, I meant like unfun hard.
