It's less that the name is ambiguous, and more that the name just needs to be changed to be less redundant. The term for the phenomenon to which the trope is referring is just called "Oral Fixation." That second "fixation" in there? I don't know why it's there, but it's not necessary. It just makes it seem like the page has a stutter.

This has 236 wicks, so I am going to hear to more detailed arguments on this page.

...I guess somebody somebody thought it was funny funny to use the word twice twice?

I agree that simply "Oral Fixation" would be a better name, on grounds of Clear Concise Witty (neither name is witty, and the non-redundant one is clearer and more concise).

We can redirect to Oral Fixation to maintain the inbounds. Two fixations just sounds stupid.

Oral Fixation Fixation sounds to me like someone is obsessed with oral fixation. Oral fixation is a preexisting term that means that someone obsessively has something in their mouths.

I assume the redundant name comes from the camera/viewer/writer focusing on a character's oral fixation; particularly when it zooms in on a woman with something in her mouth (as in the page image). I actually see the potential for two tropes here; Oral Fixation, the supertrope about someone who keeps something in their mouth, and Oral Fixation Fixation, which would be the creators of the work drawing attention to it.

The former would be a characterization trope, the other almost a stock shot.

That said, I'd be fine with just forgetting the Oral Fixation Fixation part and just making it Oral Fixation.

That looks like a recipe for confusion.

After all, we're not going to turn Foot Focus into Foot Focus Focus, are we now? :)

Well, I would posit that Foot Focus would be a different trope than "character has a foot fetish." But I get your point.

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the original writer's thought process. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit. I dunno.

It would more correctly be described as Oral Fixation Fanservice, unless it's specifically about series where it occurs a lot. Though "a lot" on The Internet means "happens at least once"...

Anyhow, the description and examples are about Oral Fixation, not Oral Fixation Fixation.

Yesterday Spark9 created a redirect with Oral Fixation, pointing to Oral Fixation Fixation. I agree that the extra "fixation" is unnecessary, so perhaps we can just swap the content of OFF onto OF? Given the new auto-disambig setup, I don't know if OFF would be cutlisted or just made a redirect, though.

The auto-disambig only sees pages with the same titles in different namespaces, so if we cut this, there would be 476 orphaned inbounds. Better just redirect it.

I hadn't heard of a new auto-disambig setup, please enlighten me?

Basically, nonexistent pages which share a page title with existing pages in other namespaces show up as an auto-disambiguation instead of the canonical nopage text.

Thread.

I'd seen a page or two for that, but I didn't realize that's how it was implemented. Neat.

Anyway, my vote's for a redirect swap, putting the content on Oral Fixation while keeping OFF as a redirect.

.......I can't think of any witty phrase that describes oral fixation, other than...Oral Fixation. Doesn't mean anyone else can't but I think this in an instance where calling a rabbit a rabbit is the best choice. I agree to the redirect swap

If nothing else is supported I can agree with the swap.

I'm fine with just Oral Fixation as a trope name. This may just be the voice of general cynicism, but all too many times someone trying to come up with a witty name for something seems to fall about half-way short of the "wit" mark. tongue

OF fits the "clear" and "concise" parts of Fast Eddie's "Clear, concise, witty" trifecta, and in a pinch "witty" can slide without any serious problems IMO.

I'm reminded of the time that Loudness War was called "Record of Loudness War" solely to make an obscure anime reference in the title, despite "Loudness War" being a preexisting term.

I think it's time for a Rename crowner. I opted for this structure as the only proposed other name was Oral Fixation.
