Unfortunately, laws prohibiting murder prevent such a scenario from becoming an immediately corrected problem.

Somewhat more seriously, even before post-9/11 "security theater", airport security had absolutely no sense of humor about that kind of thing.

Airport security have no sense of humour about anything. Ever. Especially in the US, they're infamous, have been for decades.

They're security. Their job isn't to have a sense of humor. Want humor, talk to comedians.

Turks protesting the treatment of Uighurs in China attack Korean tourists by mistake: http://www.france24.com/en/20150704-turks-protesting-against-china-attack-koreans-mistake

Turkish nationalists protesting China's treatment of ethnic Uighur Muslims attacked a group of Korean tourists in the heart of Istanbul's old city on Saturday, mistaking them for Chinese nationals.

Hundreds of angry protesters marched towards the Topkapi Palace on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait in a show of solidarity with the Turkic Uigurs, who complain of cultural and religious suppression under Chinese rule.

Shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is the Greatest), they attacked some Koreans outside the Topkapi Palace, which is visited by thousands of tourists every day.

The tourists were rescued by riot police, who fired tear gas to disperse the attackers, members of the notorious far-right Grey Wolves closely affiliated with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

Video footage by Dogan news agency showed a distraught Korean tourist telling reporters: "I'm not Chinese, I'm Korean."

This is like some kind of awful racist joke come to life.

[up][up] It doesn't matter what race you are. I've been hassled myself. Photographers Rights are an issue in this country where taking photographs in public is increasingly frowned upon due to fears of paedophilia and terrorism.

The Metropolitan Police have even offered advice to photographers. However, a private location, such as a shopping centre, can make their own rules.

[up] Quite. If you're obviously a tourist in an touristy area, most of the time you'll be fine. Otherwise, if you're a Rail Enthusiast, Bus Enthusiast or a Car Enthusiast in a fairly ordinary area, you'll probably get questioned at least once.

And there have been numerous cases of Plane Spotters ending up in prison in the Middle East.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters have recaptured a Syrian town from Kurdish-led forces near Raqqa city, recovering ground near the armed group's de facto capital, just two days after it was pummelled in heavy US-led air strikes, a monitor said. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday that ISIL forces had taken Ayn Issa and surrounding areas from Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which only seized the town from the armed group's control two weeks ago.

More executions
Earlier on Monday, ISIL released a new video purporting to show the killing of two Syrian men in the armed group's stronghold of Raqqa, allegedly for spying on the group. The video, which was posted on an ISIL-linked Facebook page, showed two young men in orange jumpsuits, saying they filmed and photographed ISIL-held areas in Syria and sent footage to a person abroad. They identified themselves as 21-year-old Faysal Hussein Habibi and 20-year-old Bishr Abdul-Azim and say they received $400 a month for the filming. The two are then tied to a tree, after which masked gunmen shoot them in the head at close range.

A good opinion piece about how the media has over-hyped the terrorist threat. What particularly annoyed me is how the Air Force cancelled a July 4th celebration because it was scared of a terrorist attack. Haven't they realized by now that doing this sort of thing means the terrorists win?

Political culture in the West is deeply risk-aversive. The presumption is that all it will take is one mass killing incident, and careers will be ruined. No one wants to be the guy in charge when that happens.
