Does Not Illustrate: Magic Map

Well, the image on Magic Map shows a map just fine, but doesn't show there's anything magical about it. So I think this should be pulled for not illustrating the trope at hand.

Aside from that, I think that this comic may be a decent alternative.

Yeah, the "glowing point of light" just looks like a candle behind it.

Surely there's a decent version of the Marauder's Map from Harry Potter showing footsteps with someone's name? GIS is doing nothing for me.

So, if he's crushed, how can he poke at the map? But yeah, it fits better on that [up] page.

I don't see anything wrong with the current. Could be a little clearer, but it does illustrate the trope.

I agree that the suggestion is a better depiction of Reality-Changing Miniature.

Poster 2 wins it in a walk. Marauder's Map would likely be instantly identifiable, perhaps a shot of it being poked with a wand to remove doubt for those who have not been exposed to Harry Potter. Surely it exists somewhere.

Reality-Changing Miniature hasn't a pic - I would accept 1 for it. Also, it will need some stacking to work over there.

I agree that the current is just a map.

Okay, I was not aware of the trope Reality-Changing Miniature. How about we put my suggestion on there, pull the current image from Magic Map (for not illustrating the trope) and see if can find a non-myopic marauder's map as a replacement?

It illustrates the trope.

Yes, but as several people have noted, it fits Reality-Changing Miniature better.

I was talking about the current.

Since we all agree that the OP is good for Reality-Changing Miniature, I'm starting a separate discussion for that.

If we can find a picture of the Marauder's Map with the footprints and/or being taped by the wand, I do think that would be best, but I can't find a good one at all. I found some close ups where it doesn't look like a map anymore.

That doesn't look magical to me...

It looks more magical than the current picture, at least.

I'm with Septimus on this one. What about that image is supposed to be magical?

Showing the footprints on the Marauder's map would help...as is it just looks like a fancy map.

[up] There are footprints on the one I suggested in 15. The problem with the Marauder Map is that if you zoom it too far back, you can't really see the footprints. But if you zoom it too close, you can't see enough details to see that it is a map.

Edit:

Second attempt and a third with some photo manipulation going on:

I think the light in the current is more obvious than those footsteps.

It's really hard to tell what's going on. I saw some stairs at the top popping out after a while of staring at it, but I don't really get "magic" from this image.

Arguably, no single static image can show that the map is magical, and we have to show two or three frames in sequence.

I don't have an accessible copy of that movie to capture an image from, or I'd do it. The closest I could find is essentially the same as the Filch image but with Dumbledore instead.

It really is a pity we can't use small size animated GIF images.
