Andalia: Rise of the Dark King

A completely separate RP from the previous Andalia RP, no knowledge is required of it other than the basic setting and this series of events:

The Archdemon Tabarach appeared in the land of Andalia long ago, forcing an alliance of local six kingdoms, and the election of one High King.

A grand struggle of good vs. evil that apparently has finally reached its conclusion. Tabarach's greatest avatar, Saedach (who is also his son, somehow), fell in battle in the Icy Wastes of the Frozen North, attempting to attack a "World Tree". The Legendary Sword Zero Edge was said to have been involved.

And now, the journeying Prince Raize finally returns to the Capitol of Kingston with the artifact he had been seeking for around two years...

However, something went awry in the Capitol. Fall suddenly gave way to Winter, and a hellish storm overtook the capitol, normally a warm, temperate place. Ice and snow falls daily, night little different from day. The Mages claim that a great evil has taken up root in the Capitol.

Black Knights roam the lands, proclaiming the death of the High King and the rise of the "Dark King", the "Once and Future King".

The Undead who were allies of the demons have suddenly fissured in to two factions, one faction loyal to Tabarach and the Six Dread Demons, and the other loyal to this Dark King.

Not a word as to the fates of valiant and inspiring Prince Raize, or the High King. Many knights who set forth into now accursed Kingston have never returned.

The lands are soon forced to take up arms and various individuals set forth to discover what, exactly, is going on in Kingston, and how it came to pass...

The main point of this RP is not to be a sequel or anything resembling it. If you want to bring back an old character, you can, but new characters are encouraged. The start and storyline of this are detached from the old Andalia story.

While this is a Dark Fantasy / High Fantasy Hybrid, I don't want complete and total grimdark. Witty and wry humor will be copious.

I am definitely curious.

Interest.

I'm wondering: Would an undead character be viable?

High interest and a desire to show that I've improved (I look at some of my old stuff and wonder what the heck I was thinking).

It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.

[up][up] Very viable. Surprisingly so.

[up] Glad to see you back.

I'll most likely make a monk with a staff. I just have a question - is everyone a human?

There are Orc tribes to the east, who have some less than savory memories of Vallegrave, one of the previous Big Bad's. As in, he enslaved them to make his war engines. They are not happy about this.

At all.

Making it sting even more is that Vallegrave, a Lich, and Tabarach, a demon they worshiped, essentially turned around and used their own allies as slaves.

Vallegrave, by now, is fully dead. The Dark King killed him really good. It took a few tries, but he did the job.

The issue with Tabarach is significantly more complicated.

Let me rephrase that: Is every player character a human? I don't see a race thing on the signup, but Iunno, just wanted to make sure before making a character and figuring out a backstory. Like if hobbits, elves, dorfs, centaurs, fauns, and lizardfolk exist, I might make a different dude.

Well, there are also elves, so I will make a race thing on the sign up.

They basically used to be pretty strongly on the side of the "Dark" characters, well, until as I covered, Vallegrave and some others screwed them over royally.

That pretty much was all the incentive needed to unify the tribes, and get them into a stable alliance with Estolia.

Is there a set magic system in this universe?

Yep, check the New Dawn thread in World Building. Basically, Mages have a neat little "Core" they can use and draw upon for easy magic.

Or they can make use of runic magic enscribed on paper or even the floor for wider range effects.

Of course, Magical Artifacts like that cursed Zero Edge make magic easy.

So, do runes basically function on their own once they're created, or are they inert unless you actively use your own power to make them work?

You can immediately activate them, or leave them dormant until you use them with an injection of your own power.

The most skilled Runic Users can leave runes that last for centuries.

Example - Ignius knew where Alpha-Leunis would challenge him, so he littered the place with Runes one hundred and fifty years in advance, and activated them en masse during a blade lock. What started as a pretty even fight turned into a total slaughter of a curbstomp on A-L.

That is how good set up can make things go.

Its very complicated and usually passed down through families of blacksmiths. It usually involves adding magical ingredients during the forging, and mixing it into the steel itself. You need a specific kind of hammer for it, and a special type of forge.

There are some ancestral weapons made by legendary blacksmiths too, passed down through families.

In the case of things like Zero Edge, though, its more of a curse from ages old.

How does necromancy work here? Or really just animating corpses. Kinda like the "raise zombie" spell/staff in Skyrim.

Kind of interested.

What is the player pacing like? I'm a commissioner for a fantasy hockey league (1 hour daily at minimum), preparing post graduate applications, continuing classes, and a myriad of other activities. If the pacing is really quick, then it's likely I wouldn't be able to keep up effectively.

NickTheSwing Since: Aug, 2009

[up][up] Basically. The basic Necro spell is that, and there's a slightly more complicated one which Liches and Necromancers use to create various golems made of bodies, maniac "fusion zombies" (when given their mind back, these ones have a single personality that is basically all the personalities of the people used to create the zombie fused into one), and et cetera, and a necromancy spell that turns people into Black Knights.

[up] Player Pacing, well, when we get started, I suppose we might be fast some days, and slower others. My schedule personally is subject to a lot of erratic changes.

What's an elf's lifespan like, and when do they reach adulthood? Do they reach physical adulthood at the same time humans do, and then just live a long time, or do they stay children for a long time before becoming adults?

They pretty much stop aging at 25, until about 1000 years of age, and from then, they age 10 years every hundred.

How many people would be needed to make a fusion Zombie? I'm thinking of making one who constantly gets into arguements with himself.

minimum 2, and upwards of ten.

The ones that have escaped the Dark forces are not a sizable force right now, but later...
