OMTRTA sounds like it describes how the work's universe and premise affect historical events. It's something that happens more often than the page indicates, but I think it's distinct to a work including all myths in a single universe.
I think this should be renamed and have its description cleaned up, but keep as its own trope.
The YKTTW is "all or most myths/fantastic creatures in an universe have a single source". If this trope is the same thing they need to be merged.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThey work in opposite directions, I believe. OMTRTA deals with the work's logic affecting real world myths. Grand Unifying Myth has every myth or fantastic creature from a single source, based in the universe's world or reality.

I have questions about whether that distinction is actually tropeworthy.
And most of the examples on One Myth To Rule Them All talk about real world myths, not historical events.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanExamples like the Shaman King one, where Jesus and Buddha were Shaman Kings, make it seem that way to me. The first paragraph of the description also does this.
The distinction is tropewrothy, as this is about reinforcing a show's myth by applying it to real life ones while Grand Unifying Myth is about unifying all or most myths to form it.

"unifying all or most myths to form it".
That is pointedly not what the YKTTW is about. The YKTTW is about myths/fantasy creaturs in a given story (based on Real Life or no) having a common origin/justification/explanation.
Also, yours would have to exclude characters, otherwise it's just a duplicate of Beethoven Was an Alien Spy.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDidn't notice that trope. It has a lot more examples of what I was thinking of.
So then BWAAS would be for historical characters with OMTRTA for mythological figures. Maybe they can be merged?
One Myth To Rule Them All covers events too, so they wouldn't be easily mergeable.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHmm...
If OMTRTA is made into a version of Beethoven Was an Alien Spy with mythological figures and stories, it would make it clearer.
That looks like it's the same thing as my YKTTW.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanRereading the first sentence on Grand Unifying Myth and examples makes it seem that way. I don't see much of a distinction now.
I can support a merge.
Now that I see, Beethoven Was an Alien Spy is for "historical figure did some fantastic stuff that they didn't do in RL" (whatever words may convey this info). It would at best only partially overlap.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAre we considering a rename as well? OMTRTA looks like it's just a reference-for-the-sake-of-it; the source of the reference has nothing to do with the trope.
Yes, the name is bad and should go away.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe first I thought of was Tasogare Otome X Amnesia, where all of The Seven Mysteries of the school relate to a single person. Would that be what the merge is to?
Check out my fanfiction!I find the name perfectly fine - there's this one myth that "rules" over all other ones. Plus there are other trope names that share the reference, One Stat to Rule Them All and One Judge to Rule Them All at least.
I like Grand Unifying Myth better. It is a snowclone, but it's more appropriate to the trope than this one.
As the one who launched this in the first place, I agree that Grand Unifying Myth is better. I can't remember what the original name in YKTTW was, but it got voted down in favor of One Myth To Rule Them All.
Looks like it may have been One Myth Is True, which would have been out-and-out confusing for A Mythology Is True.
Somehow, I am thinking of One Myth to Explain Them All as a better name.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWorks for me.
OK. Shall we crowner this?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanCrowner the merge, rename, or the name to choose?
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
Pursuant to the discussion in the All Myths Are True TRS we decided to make a Great Unifying Myth until someone pointed out that it already overlaps One Myth To Rule Them All.
The reason why we didn't notice it seems to be that the name isn't an entirely clear The Lord of the Rings reference, the description is somewhat unclear on what this article covers and it only seems to have 19 wicks and 19 inbounds.
Would this forum agree on merging the YKTTW and this trope under a new name?
