Personally, I rather like it, but it's a little unclear about how it illustrates the trope.

An image can be added without discussion, but I guess the meh is a good word to describe it. I give the image an 8.8. Then it's meta.

I don't think it illustrates, though. First I thought of was the old figure skating scoring, which tops at 6.0. But on a ten-point scale, it's just above average even if you go by numerical standards. The trope is about something that's less than perfect. Or less than almost perfect, as a 9 usually doesn't make use of the trope. Usually.

Weak...and could stand to come down in size.

Yeah, I thought Olympic Scoring which... well... uses a 6 point scale.

And it makes even less sense on a 10 point scale to the point of being actively misleading. The point of the trope is being basically a Rant Inducing Slight. The point is it's barely a negative. 6/10 would be pretty negative.

I don't see how this fits. If it said "terrible" next to a 6.0 sign, then it would work, but 6/10 seems pretty "meh" to me.

I would prefer a more obvious example.

Pull the image, as it's not an example.

The trope is "a game gets a good grade but people complain because they expect an excellent grade". The image is "mediocre grade" which is something else.

So basically 'Damning With Faint Praise, but for video games only'?

Not really. More "fans get pissy because it's not a perfect score."

Is there enough consensus to pull the image yet?

The only way I can think of picturing this would involve either rage comics or a Wall of Text series of forum posts.

Barring any better ideas, I'm voting no image on this.

^^^^ No, DBFP is more like an insult framed as a compliment. For example, "that was okay" might imply it wasn't great, or "I like his hair" might imply that's the only thing about him the speaker likes.

Agree that this image isn't sufficient.

I have some diffculty at connecting these pics with the description.

That illustrates the name, not the trope (and yes, that is an indication that this is a badly-named trope). The trope is "fans are upset that a game getting good ratings didn't get perfect ratings".

If it's reaction you want, maybe borrow from NeoGAF's Uncharted 3 Wall of Shame? We can excise names or make up fake ones, if that's a concern.

Trope names that are not literal can be great, that's not a sure sign it's a bad name. Kick the Dog is not necessarily about literal violence to canines, for example.

Literalness is not really the issue. This is one of those names where the title is minimally indicative of the description unless you already know its significance.

I still see this as related to DBFP, BTW - where "great (but not fantastic)" is perceived as a snub.

Yeah, an expanded title like Eight Point Eight Is Awful or something might work. But that's neither here nor there.

a) The trope name is a TRS issue, not an Image Pickin' issue and b) with 5000+ inbounds it's not likely getting a rename.

Should I start a TRS thread later?

Getting back to the subject at hand, I think this page is best without a picture.
