Raineh: I didn't intend for her to come across as a troll. The eyeball thing was more of a "look what I can do" moment- since everyone else in her family is capable of similar tricks, she didn't know it would scar people for life. She made blood smoothies because, well, plain AB+ blood every single day gets boring sometimes.

I altered the abilities for a couple of reasons: first, because the original Manananggan's power is kind of absurdly specific; secondly, because limb autonomy is a common power for Malaysian monsters and it's plausible she could've gotten an expanded version via hybridization; and thirdly, because it's entirely possible that the ancient stories left some details out.

If you still really don't want me to play this character, you're the boss. I just thought that she could lead to some unusual RP situations. surprised

  • Name: Yukimura Mafuyu
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Yuki-onna
  • Appearance: "..."
  • Personality: Mafuyu has a tendency to be quiet around most people. Generally, she comes off as rather calm and collected...until someone actually holds a conversation with her. If someone manages to talk to her about the right subjects, they would find that she has a fondness for cute things and is sometimes prone to odd daydreams. Oddly, her diet seems to consist mainly of popsicles and ice cream.
  • Abilities: As a yuki-onna, Mafuyu is capable of breathing out freezing cold air, modifying her physical appearance (although her skin will always be white) and turning herself into a cloud of mist or snow. Aside from that, she doesn't really have any notable abilities.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Anime Appreciation Club.
  • Backstory: Following the fall of the masquerade, Mafuyu briefly entered into a normal school. However, between the weather in the warmer parts of the year and the fact that schools tended to have heaters going during the colder months, this didn't work out particularly well.

[up][up][up] Sure.

  • Name: Gertrude Shockley
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Will O' Wisp
  • Appearance: A cheery blonde girl with startlingly green eyes. Small orbs of blue-green flame usually accompany her, being a direct extension of her mind.
  • Personality: She always acts happy, and most of the time she really is. If she becomes enraged, her powers can malfunction disastrously, so Gertrude has learned to suppress her negative emotions... to an extent.
  • Abilities: Gertrude instinctively controls a blue-green fire that can either burn hot or cold, depending on her whim. It will freeze mercury or smelt iron given enough time, but can't be projected more than forty feet from her body.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Gertie does special effects for the Drama Club, though her acting itself is third-rate. She is, however, a natural talent in the Cooking Club.
  • Backstory: Gertrude Shockley's early childhood is not something she likes to remember, much less talk about, despite the affluence and affection of her family. A few things can be pieced together from the local news stories: years of bullying, a precocious suicide attempt, a "mysterious" fire that consumed her home during a dinner party and left the people inside unscathed. The Masquerade falling did Gertie more emotional harm than good, and in the end her parents decided that an overseas monster school might be more accommodating than the neighborhood human ones.

Miss Shockley is fond of flambès, burnt toast, and frozen yogurt. She never learned to swim, and becomes rather disoriented if one of her flames is doused.

In real life, plenty of people have an unhappy past. If your intention is to run a game that is significantly Lighter and Fluffier than reality, there's nothing wrong with that, but that's not the impression I got from the OP.

Anyway, I'm sorry if it feels like I'm forcing these characters on you. I just want to understand the reasons why they're being shot down or modified. It seems to me that you aren't really clarifying what kind of game you want this to be.

Um, well... Slice of Life is Lighter and Softer. It's generally just... fun, light things and character stuff, all lighthearted.

This is that, but with Monster Girls.

  • Name: Gwendolyn Baines
  • Age: 17
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Mandragora
  • Appearance: The plant-girl on the left.
  • Personality: Gwen tends to be a bit naive. Good-natured. Bit shy around new people, but reveals a more bouncy persona once you get to know her. Having only been in Japan for a short time, she is also quite the fish-out-of-water. (Kind of like Kate from Sketchbook.)
  • Abilities:
    • Her scream can knock out anyone standing nearby, and causes pain when farther away. It is implied that this ability can get even stronger as she matures: Her mother's scream can be fatal. (Protip: Do NOT pull on a Mandragora's hair.)
    • She can burrow into the ground at will. In fact, it is necessary for her to do so regularly, as her "diet" involves absorbing nutrients from the soil. She can choose how far to burrow, including up to her waist (for when she has homework and stuff), up to her head leaving the flower exposed (which is how she normally sleeps), or completely underground (for hiding).
    • Has a knack for history and mythology.
  • Extracurricular Activities:
    • Gwen loves singing, and contrary to what you might expect, her singing voice is actually quite nice to listen to. If only someone would invite her to karaoke...
    • Due to needing to burrow into the ground for extended periods of time, her club participation is limited to the (unfortunately floundering) Tea Club.

Backstory:

Gwen originally came from a city in Wales, and has been homeschooled for pretty much all her life. The only exception to this is when The Masquerade fell, and her mother decided to enroll her in school. (By the way, her mom is a single parent.) Unfortunately, prejudice was still very much a thing at the time. It was bad enough having special needs due to being half-plant, she encountered childish teasing on top of it. Then again, if it were just that, Gwen would have survived... until someone decided as a mean prank to yank on her hair in the middle of lunch break. Naturally, because someone pulling your hair is freaking painful, she screamed, and ended up putting a dozen students in the infirmary. They got better, but the incident was enough cause to pull her out of school "for everyone's safety".

When Myouren Gakuen opened up, Gwen's mother jumped at the chance to give her daughter a normal education. As much as a half-plant monster girl can have a normal education, anyway. Unfortunately, there was only just enough money to send Gwen over, but not enough for her mother to come with her, which meant that Gwen would now have to learn to deal with things on her own. Though thankfully there's stuff like Skype, so when their schedules line up (usually sometime on the weekend), the two still have the opportunity to catch up on each other's lives.

Umm... I've given this some thought, and no: one transfer student I was willing to let slide, but when the pattern of 'bullied foreign transfer student comes to Japanese school' keeps coming up, I'm going to have to object. This is not the only school in the world. That is written right into the first post. >.<

... as for your choice of creature: the mandrake, as in the screaming thing, is just a weird plant; the monster are little demon men with no beards. I... honestly don't think it really works when you try and tie it to an extant thing like that. Sorry.

In other news thread will be up soon.

The mandragora as a vaguely creature-like plant thing has its roots in mythology (pardon the pun), which is what inspired the character idea.

Oh well, if it really doesn't fit the setting. smile

Japanese Monster girl-equivalent would be the Alarune.

Through I have no idea what's wrong with Mandagora, either.

(Can't think of any character idea at all, gah.)

I think that'd be German, actually. Then again, I don't know if the country the monster type comes from really matters, since we've got a succubus, angel and werewolf, all from Japan.

First come, first served. The fact I've already accepted yours is why I don't want the same thing again.

Objections to mandragora are outlined above.

I think I fixed my character.

  • Name: Takashimi Natsumi
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Slime
  • Appearance: I kind of like this picture.
  • Personality: Natsumi is aloof and contemplative. She tends to space out during class and she doesn't take many notes during class either so she often has to ask others if she can copy their notes. She is also very forgetful and will often forget things like, eating lunch, putting on shoes or studying.
  • Abilities: Being a slime Natsumi is able to morph parts of her body into different shapes and fit into small spaces. She is also highly resistant to physical damage.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Natsumi is a member of the Anime Appreciation Club.
  • Backstory: Natsumi is the middle child in a family of seven. She has spent most of her life so far reading books, playing games and watching T.V. During the Masquerade she was homeschooled alongside her brothers and sisters. When the masquerade finally ended she and her siblings started going to public schools. If she was being bullied at school she didn't notice, all she would do at school was stare into space and think about things.

I'm interested, but I still have to think of a character, I was thinking of a Touhou OC I was going to use for a fanfic, but I suppose it's better to think of something else, I think I may go with a Kappa.

Aaaaw :P

  • Name: Arakawa Mizu
  • Age: 16
  • Sex: Female
  • Species: Kappa
  • Appearance: She looks like a child with green, long straight hair with a duck hair clip in it, she has a plate on her head that has what seems to be an unlimited fountain of water, she wears a green shirt dress with some yellow lines on it, her hands and feet are webbed, but she's frequently wearing brown gloves and boots, has dark brown eyes that are rather slitted, she also carries a brown bag that resembles slightly a carapace
  • Personality: Mizu is an upbeat, nice girl who sometimes likes to play pranks on those she meets or become friends with, mostly involving water, she also acts like an innocent child, but in reality she's much smarter than she looks and despite her overall nice personality, she can be somewhat devilish if the situations calls for it or if she thinks that doing so would be beneficial for her; while not greedy herself, she puts her comfort above everyone's else and, as such, can act like a Spoiled Brat at times.
  • Abilities: Being a Kappa, Mizu can control water and swim very well, she can use the unlimited water on her water for many tricks if she so desires, she's also able to stand on water and is a rather nimble girl, being able to do some very impressive feats at times.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Swimming Club, Anime Appreciation Club, Cooking Club (which she's terrible at), though she sometimes sneaks in other clubs just to see what they're doing and sometimes even joins them unofficially.
  • Backstory: While under the Masquerade, Mizu was initially scared of interacting with the regular humans mainly due to the Masquerade in play and the fact that she was too unsure of her own ability of hiding her appearance, she initially tried to hide the plate on her head and her hands and feet, but her eyes were tougher, she resorted to using sunglasses all the time, however, she felt very uncomfortable with the idea of hiding herself from others, feeling pressured the entire time, eventually she stopped trying and her parents, being very understanding, started teaching her themselves until they learned of the Myouren Gakuen, at which point they decided to put their daughter in there, she was glad because she wouldn't have to hide herself anymore, but she ended taking a liking for the gloves and boots she used before and started to wear them frequently, feeling much more comfortable now.
