Updating the crowner, then.

You know what?
- We already have a page called Actors, which lists the names, description, roles they played, and that sort of thing. So, having a Hey Its That Guy page just seems redundant when you look at it.
- Another observation is that everyone has a "Hey, it's that guy!" to just about every single actor in existence, and it doesn't matter if they're A-listers, B-listers and so on. So, trying to put down examples would be like counting to infinity.
Yep, cleanup is definitely needed.
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!"Another observation is that everyone has a "Hey, it's that guy!" to just about every single actor in existence, and it doesn't matter if they're A-listers, B-listers and so on. So, trying to put down examples would be like counting to infinity. "
That's theory, though. It doesn't happen in practice.
Anyhow, if the winning option keeps the margin, how do we implement it?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think Eddie would have to do that personally.
On a side note, I'd really like more than 20-30 votes on a pair of tropes with almost 10,000 wicks between them. I'd prefer 100, but I'll take 50. The votes equaling half a percent of the wicks isn't asking too much, right?
It's worth noting that Eddie hasn't agreed to make the change, and we still have to get his approval. That said, removing wicks would be something we could do in response to a resolved crowner without his concurrence.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If only there was a way to canvass for votes on this. Would a site announcement would do the trick, or would that be too obtrusive?
There's this topic.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAdded it to the crowners in need of votes thread, since these have over 9,000 wicks and I agree they should have more votes than the standard.
I'm not sure we'll be able to get fifty votes let alone a hundred. Or at least not in a reasonable timeframe. I haven't seen a turnout for that since we renamed Nakama.
One problem is that Hey Its That Guy is misused even by the standards of HITG. The idea behind HITG was to point out those character actors you've seen in a million places, but don't know their names.
The way Hey Its That Guy works, once the Guy is widely recognizable, he actually ceases to be a Hey Its That Guy. Fred Thompson, for instance, *was* a HITG once, but now everybody knows him and just says "Hey, it's Fred Thompson!"
On TV Tropes, the lion's share of HITG entries are really examples of Retroactive Recognition — like "Hey, it's Brad Pitt, but he's playing Frightened Prisoner #2 in a B-movie made before he was famous!"

Jet-a-Reeno!You're too kind. I think the most common usage of HITG is just plain Recognition, forget the "retroactive" part. "Wolverine is fighting Maximus! And Mrs.Lovett is married to Pirelli!"
The most common usage is Work: Character looks very like character.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYou're right, come to think of it. It's gotten even more misused than it used to be. The examples used to at least have some vestigial link to "obscurity," but now it can be used for very famous people appearing in a 2013 blockbuster.

Jet-a-Reeno!Hey Its That Voice is starting to spawn subpages like this.
... that's just terrible.

I should note that one reason that this won't get as many votes as important crowners of the past is that crowners don't work the way they used to. I don't recall exactly why they had to be fixed, but it seems that whole groups of tropers are being assigned just one vote to share between them. This may be the reason one vote just flipped on the crowner here, and why I seem to have voted on many crowners I never actually voted on.
That is the reason.
As with respect to vote numbers, it's because after the Great Trope Name Policy Wars of 2011 the stakes at TRS have dropped off.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanA new idea for this came up in mod chat. Well, not new, but it was never added to the crowner. Transplant the whole affair to Just for Fun, and support it with a new namespace. I'd suggest merging it into a single format for both Hey Its That Guy and Hey Its That Voice, possibly in just one namespace instead of two, for simplicity.
Example: HeyItsThat.Star Trek
I added it, so let's get some votes!

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sounds like a good idea to me. It will be a lot of work, though. Ugh, and now we'll have another namespace we need to find an icon for...
Not really listing reasons against it, just general grumbling.
Aren't we already sort of doing that except lumping it into trivia? I mean, in theory since people list trivia tropes wherever they feel like.
Upvoted it, although I question whether this is any different from what we have now. Honestly, this looks like an exercise in useless work.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe point of such a move is that it would strip all the wicks to HITG and HITV from articles and require them to be kept in their own namespace. That way they wouldn't clog up the main wiki for people who don't want to play the game.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Crown Description:
Hey Its That Guy is a Trivia item defined as "An actor you've seen in other works, but you don't remember his name, just his face." We often misuse it for "Here are unrelated other roles played by this film's actors," the just-for-fun game currently covered by Role Association. All crowner items will apply to the mirror trope, Hey Its That Voice, as well. Usage stats between both tropes: 9,448 wicks and 2,657 inbounds.
I don't see why it should be treated differently. Lump that into it.
