[up] Interestingly, I had some mondegreens for two of the songs you mentioned as well - regarding "Brain Stew", I misheard the line "Passed the point of delirium" as "That's the point of delirium", which... still actually works, somewhat. (And today I learned that "crosstops" are slang for stimulants. Huh.)

Regarding "Amish Paradise", I misheard the line "An Amish with a 'tude? You know that's unheard of!" as "An Amish with a tool?". I'll admit the misheard lyric really didn't make much sense to me in-context (given that the lyric before this is "I ain't ever punched a tourist even if he deserved it"), unless perhaps in this context a tool was referring to some sort of weapon.

"Summer Sunshine" by The Corrs:

What I heard: The coffee's sitting, we borrowed heaven.

Actual lyrics: In coffee city, we borrowed heaven.

When I would hear the song growing up at that part I would picture a cup of coffee sitting on a counter or a coffee pot.

Another one I just remembered, when I was a kid and first saw the trailer of Chicken Little, I heard the line "We should submit this to Chickens Gone Wild" as "let's just admit the chicken's gone wild." If you think about it the latter line fits the scene just as well, as it's the part where Chicken Little tries to tell the town about the alien invasion and they don't believe him, so they think he's crazy, ergo, "gone wild."

Been playing the original Yakuza, QUALITY dub and all, and misheard some random enemy's line as "GET DOWN IN THE FUCKING MEMES" (I think the actual line was supposed to be "GET DOWN ON YOUR FUCKING KNEES" or something)

Greg's quote in Save the Light and Unleash the Light when he gets hurt: "Alright, alright, I can take a hint." —> "Alright, alright, I can take a hit."

All this time, I thought he was admitting that in the games, his defense is on par with the Gems, instead of being exasperated that his enemies don't like his music.

In Gangnam Style, I misheard the title and all instances thereof as "Gingham style" for the first 10 years of that song's existence.

More recently, I've heard entire songs' worth of mondegreens from NickBertke's works. Don't even get me started on them...

Regardless of my personal thoughts on the song

I will never unhear the chorus of "Rich Men North of Richmond" as

As a kid, I misheard "Man on the Moon" by R.E.M.

Actual lyric:

  • "If you believed they put a man on the moon"

Misheard lyric:

  • "If you believed they put a man on the run"

I only today learned the real lyric....

Last night one of my friends said "Don't bring your phone into the foam pit, it might get lost" and I misheard it as "Don't bring your phone into the phone pit, it might get lost".

When I first heard the song "Venus" by Bananarama in those Gillette commercials, I thought they were singing "I'm your Beavis ...I'm your fire..." At the time I was a little kid and barely knew who Beavis and Butt-Head were.

Not mine, but a friend mine said "My sister was born on leap day" and someone misheard it as "My sister was born on LinkedIn". We had a good laugh about that one.

I was re-listening to some Fall Out Boy the other day, and I was being reminded of a misheard lyric from "This Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race":

Actual Lyrics: I'm a leading man, and the lies I weave are oh so intricate - oh so intricate!
Mondegreen: I'm a little man, and I'm also evil, also into cats - also into cats!

There was a point in time where I thought King Dedede said "I need a monster to clobber that damn Kirby!" Naturally, kid me was very confused as to how they got away with that.

[up][up]Reminds me of how as a kid I thought Caillou's theme song said "sucks when I've had enough" (it's actually 'cept, as in except) and wondered the same thing. I knew "sucks" wasn't really a bad word, bu definitely something they wouldn't say on a preschool show.

"Don't cry because it's over, cry because it happened."

To be fair, that line fits the song just as appropriately, especially since he says it while a clip plays of his infamous temper tantrum from "Caillou Joins The Circus."

[up][up] I remember thinking the same thing, although I had a bit of a Like You Would Really Do It reaction because I thought "sucks" (in that context) really was a bad word at the time and I doubted a preschool show would get away with that.

If I recall correctly, there's an episode of that show which is banned for frequent use of the word "stupid", so they probably wouldn't be able to get away with "sucks", especially in the theme song.

This also reminds me of the time I thought I heard the phrase "What the fuck is that?" in an episode of The Amazing World of Gumball. I still don't know what the real line was.

I know this isn't actually what it is, but in Mario Kart Wii, Funky Kong has one voice clip he uses when he boosts sometimes that I always thought sounded like was saying "Fuck yes!"

From Paramore's song "Misery Business," I used to think the lyric "she caught him by the mouth" was "she caught him by the cock." Because the line is said with akind of twang to it, and mouth doesn't rhyme with clock, and the song makes reference to the other girl being s "whore" so... It made sense to me.
