I hope there aren't too many zombies in the game-because lets face it, once they went mainstream they started sucking, aside from The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later.
My hopes:
1. He has a rifle. Hopefully not much ammo and some survival shit incorparated into it, maybe with some side missions?
2. A good story. Old RE, and mostly the new ones, didn't have that much of a great plot. No cheesy dialogue.
3. Stealth?
4. Puzzles
Wikipedia article mentions:
"When Detective Sebastian and his partner rush to the scene of a gruesome mass murder, a mysterious, powerful force is lying in wait for them. Witnessing the killing of fellow police officers one after another, Sebastian is then attacked and loses consciousness. Waking up in a land where monsters are wandering about, he has to fight his way through a world of death and his close friend's madness in order to understand what’s going on. Sebastian has to face his fears in order to survive on a journey to discover what lies in the shadows of a mysterious force."
The world isn't ready for giant T4 combustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbpGiYmBSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKm9Hopefully there's a lot of enemy variety. And they should look really monstrous and grotesque.
I hope they take care with the sound design. A lot of developers don't realize just how important sound is to horror. It's part of what makes The last of Us interesting, those clicking noises are really freaky.
nyo ho hoOh, and less jump scares.
The sound design should be focused on as well, with ominous, suspensful music.

The world isn't ready for giant T4 combustion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbpGiYmBSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKm9For someone who loathes being called the Father of Resident Evil, he sure is digging deep in what made him king back when he was around.
I'm looking forward to this.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Is it just me or does the protagonist look just like the guy from Murdered: Soul Suspect?
Bleye knows Sabers.I only saw the gameplay footage on Giant Bomb, so if there's anything in the presentation that makes this sound more interesting feel free to point it out.
That said, while that prologue looked pretty good once the Perth House segment came up, my excitement dropped tenfold and I kept saying to myself "Oh wow, this LITERALLY turned into Resident Evil 4". Even the sound effects of the head explosions were the same, to the point I honestly expected Las Plagas to pop out of their necks. I was hoping for original atmospheric horror but nope. It's apparently RE 4 meets The Suffering.

It's from the Creator of Resident Evil, So I'm not surprised.
Watch SymphogearThere's a world of difference between making a game RESEMBLING your previous work and almost carbon copying levels from it (the case of that cabin sequence) only with the enemies looking different. The former indicates a Signature Style, the latter represents total unoriginality.

Funny, isn't it? Kenji Inafune went off to design Totally Not Mega Man, Hideki Kamiya goes off to make Angel May Cry, and now, here's Mikami with The Residing Evil
Capcom's getting mondo blue balls, i bet.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I wonder if The Dog Bites Back is the appropriate karmic trope.
Now all Ono needs to do is leave Capcom and make Street Brawler or Nightstriders.

Bleye knows Sabers.Too bad Strider's original director had another similar work lost in obscurity.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Of Course, Keiji Inafune said not to blame capcom for anything megaman related, so.....
Watch SymphogearWell, here's the latest gameplay trailer courtesy of Gamespot.
Yeah, this game is definitely looks a lot more like Resident Evil 4 meets Silent Hill 2 than Amnesia: The Dark Descent (not surprising given Mikami directed RE4). Don't get me wrong, the game looks creepy, but I'm not sure if it will invoke genuine horror and fear. Still, I did enjoy RE4 for the gameplay and I'm glad to see a game that will hopefully build up on Mikami's strengths.
Judging from the visual aesthetics and graphics, it seems like it's another game that was originally designed for 7th gen. Since I doubt there's going to be significant difference between 7th gen and 8th gen apart from visual effects, I think I might want to purchase the Xbox 360 version of this game and hold off on a PS 4 or an Xbox One until later...

Together, we are one.I find myself wanting to play this, even though horror games aren't really my thing XD
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.The editing makes this plainly hilarious.
Delayed till October (a fitting month).

I hope it isn't too undone by the quality of the plot/dialouge because the aesthetic is quite on point.
edit: it doesn't have the post title-screen scene but here's the english version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBp9zBiMSRQ

Out today and the embargo is lifted, the most prominent criticism by far seems to be that it's hard almost to the point of being simply unfairly designed.
Yeah, one of the Youtubers I'm subscribed to doesn't like it. He claims that it isn't scary, it's just tons of puzzles, sneaking around and whatnot, and once when they died it sent them back twenty minutes.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.The impression I got from the reviews i've seen (Only two, admittedly), is that while it's very well designed and varied in terms of enemies and situations, it's very unforgiving, doesn't explain it's mechanics properly, and the main character is weirdly unfazed by alot of the messed up shit. To me, that sounds like Shinji Mikami in general. The mechanical issues thing is something that was also present in Vanquish to a degree. RE 4 Leon Kennedy, despite having the best cheesy one liners and some moments of fear (Mainly from the Plagas inside him), was pretty unfazed by alot of the horrifying shit in RE 4 (Until it killed him horribly).
I'm not insulting him as a director, since I love his work (Despite only playing RE 4, Vanquish, and a few levels of God Hand) i'm just saying that it's traits i've seen before from him. I still may get this game down the line. While I don't expect it to be fully scary, I do expect it to be tense, atmospheric and unique, which was RE 4's strong point.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...So basically "Survival Horror: Dark Souls Edition"?
Oh, the Youtuber also said that while it wasn't scary it was filled with just constant, foreboding tension. I'd say that along with that it's got moments of horror, shock, and disgust, but probably not constant "on-the-nose" stuff like Outlast would have.

That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I'm not sure why the main character being unfazed is a problem. I Mean, James in Silent Hill 2 was also largely unfazed by the stuff going on, and I wouldn't really call that a problem. Honestly, while I think playing a total badass is indeed detrimental to horror, the problem with them actually showing fear is the fact that it feels like the game telling you how scared you should be at any given time.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"Agreed.
That and playing a protagonist who is pissing and defecating themselves while running to the nearest therapist's office isn't nearly as exciting and can very quickly bog down the game and become a chore to deal with unless executed perfectly.
I'd say its a situation of Player-Player Charcter Segregation. While the character should be terrified for their lives, the player obviously isn't and such a reaction from the Player Character will get annoying, particularly if their reaction of terror isn't reciprocated by the player at all.
Is there a trope for that?
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.
It's still a vault.
