Then the mods will go crazy and get rid of all storytime threads.

I don't think the mods use the first page to delete threads if their reported.

You know, I never had an experience on 4chan as bad as I've heard it could get. Then again, I'm usually only on /tg/, so who know.

I remember several pretty awful things occurring on 4chan while I was there, and on blue boards too.

I was there for about 7 years I think.

I guess storytimes weren't killed, for now.

That aside, there's been prunning and deletion of GG threads on 4chan on a huge scale. Anons are not happy, and this is gonna get really ugly if it keeps going.

There's GG threads in other chan clones, though 4chon kicked us out. Though you can be sure moot's gonna find his mail filled with complains, and Assange will tweet about it. I'm even expecting Anonymous to comment on this, seeing how the came from there and all.

The Assange getting on it, findings of Silversting people in the three major vidya companies and whatnot it makes you think there's even bigger BS going around.

Still baffled that there's people here that believe them or let alone think this is about getting womyn our of vidya. Or if it's even about them.

Oh, I'm in agreement it's BS, but just remember that it's more or less a literal uphill battle of random nobodies on the internet lashing out against the ones who originally controlled the PR and gaming media narrative being presented to the general public. 4chan is just an easier target to misrepresent considering its history.

Although you'd think that by now people would have learned that trying to bait 4chan would just screw them over eventually, considering how often it happens.

Right, right; 4chan is an interesting part of the internet if we analize it a bit. /v/ and Gamer Gate movement have Cassandra Truth in concerns to the information and reveals, and SJW sites and Kotaku and whatnot are Villain with Good Publicity, or at least they control that publicity.

I like to think of 4chan as Homura before the reveal: looks like th bad guy and no one believes them, but then... Oh, and 4chan as a Chaotic Neutral, doesn't get in anyone's side often but when it does or someone messes with it you can bet there will be chaos.

Remindw me when Tumblr tried to raid /b/, /v/ and /pol/. Shit was hilarious.

That's what I've been saying about 4Chan and anon for a while. They're chaotic neutral and sometimes(like right now with Gamergate) their goals just happen to line up with the general good.

True, 4Channers will cut the self-righteous bullshit and own up to it when you point out they're just being pricks.

I will say that as of right now I have a very strong distaste for Gamer Gate and its relationship to /v/. While I do admit that they have done some good, I am still seeing a lot more severe bad things happening under the label and they seem remarkably complicit in letting these things keep happening. I'm not talking about harassment since they do seem to be doing a good job of not doing that anymore (keyword being anymore: I'm still confident it happened before the public eye was placed on them) as much as I'm talking about how they actively promote toxic ideologies to the forefront of their movement. Their support of Milo Yiannopoulos of Breitbart makes it clear that when they say "ethical journalism" they mean "journalism that agrees with me" because he is one of the most purely unethical bastards I have ever had the misfortune of reading. Just read any his non-GG articles and you'll see what I mean, he's quite the bigoted nutjob.

It kind of reminds me of the Iraq War in a sense, actually. Gamer Gate constantly proclaim to be winning even though the sheer number of fuckups have made it abundantly clear that they don't know what the hell they're even doing, and it descends into a complete clusterfuck where there are no clear winners or losers. Hell, if we were to get really creative you could probably compare Breitbart to private military contractors since they were total outsiders brought in as a force against the "enemy" but have proceeded to fuck things up even further.

I'd already wrote this piece on my Twitlonger earlier last night, and my thoughts on the whole thing still remain relatively unchanged.

For as much as I'd like to believe Gamer Gate is a good thing, I can't even comfortably consider myself neutral to it since I have a very strong disdain for many of its figureheads and their tendency to jump to the worst possible conclusion about their "enemy" without applying any critical thought.

Apparently the whole thing where 4chan turned it's back on Gamergate happened after one of the admins came back from seeing one of Anita Sarkeesian's speaking engagements. It got him thinking about everything going on and boom.

Good. Claiming that she faked the death threats that forced her out of her home when it was later proven that it was real was the tipping point for me, especially since nobody seems to have apologized to her yet.

These people abide by the principle of "guilty until proven innocent" based on incredibly thin circumstantial/anecdotal evidence and then show no remorse when they turn out to be wrong (which is quite likely with conspiracy theories in general) and are just kicking someone who's already down. Then when told to "listen and believe" specifically because this sort of thing happens they have the gall to play the victim as though treating someone as innocent until proven guilty is the same as some 1984 style propoganda.

I'm hoping that this teaches some of the people involved that they need to be more willing to empathize because at this point it is desperately needed. But I'm not counting on it.

I'd prefer if people focused criticism on the videos. That's actually the reason the thread on them got permalocked. (Something which I am ashamed to admit I had some part in.)

Because when you get right down to it, the idea that people don't want her to be criticized just isn't true. Plenty of people, including games journalists and even feminists, have pointed out the obvious flaws. Some have even criticized her infamous Schedule Slip. What people don't want is for shit like the "you obviously faked your death threats" to be the default response, which unfortunately seems to be what it is right now if the FBI investigation is to be believed.

Eron Gjoni, Zoe's ex himself, would agree with you on the whole thing about gamergate having a right-wing nut as one of its major voices of the movement. And it's especially sad because according to him, "they have no other megaphones."

I got a one-sided thrashing in the thread about because I said her videos were poorly made(even linking to a girl that did a good job breaking down why her ragging on the characters she did was pointless and they were more stronger than she gave credit for, and got asked why I was butthurt when I criticized The Bechdel Test even though I voiced by approval of the idea of empowering women and more strong female characters.

I think you've also seen personally the horrible things I've been called for voicing my opinions elsewhere.

Strong female characters, as in characters that are interesting, well written, and female. Sarah Connor, Lara Croft(mostly as she's written in the movies and new game, of course she is more of just a badass in the later), The Boss, Eva(really, a lot of the girls in MGS qualify), The Journalist from Heavy Rain(I forget her name because my ass sucks with names), Elsie...

The thing is, being sexy doesn't define someone characterization and with a female character is can make them even more badass if they're sexy in a confident and dominate way like Lara in the aforementioned movies. If someone reduces someone to a object and doesn't view them as human just because they're attractive and up front about it, that shows more about them and how screwed their views on sex are.
