I wouldn't particularly care if it wasn't so present anytime he was mentioned, but it's kind of obnoxious. Otherwise he'd just be "that rival guy" like Ryo is to me.

Like, the way you acted as if he seriously stopped caring about Jun, and kept steadfast to that even when it was explained why that was very unlikely, kind of says it all.

I can't not point these things out, otherwise they'd drive me crazy.

Every time we talk about tayama I... still don't like Hayama? Wow, amazing, this must be an insidious plot on my behalf to annoy you. Sorry if it rustles you jimmies but I'm not going to no participate just because I have opinion you don't like. Seriously get over yourself.

Yeah, because I said "no having opinions different from mine" and not "you shouldn't deliberately make things out to be worse than they are/straight up ignore things just because you don't like a character".

If you didn't do that I wouldn't care how you felt about him, you're the only one who does it. Sorry if pointing that out ruffles your jimmies.

So, every time I say something you disagree with, it's me deliberately twisting things because I hate Hayama and want to smear him or something?

...

Wow, Okay I don't even know what to say to that, so I'm just going to back away slowly because at this point you are just wireding me out. You evidently think more about my thoughts on Hayama than even I do.

[up]Maybe there's a major miscommunication here. No, I don't think every negative you or anyone else says is a deliberate twisting of things, but I just point stuff out like that whenever. It's less a Hayama thing and more a general trend.

Anyway...for anyone who's tried bear meat, what was it like? Ever had it fried?

Maybe we do. Let's leave it at that since we derailed the thread enough already.

Moving on.

Bear meat sounds terrible. Though that's coming from a guy that doesn't stray too far from the holy trinity + fish.

It was none of my business so I didn't wanna point it out, but yeah Shulgo you kind of have this thing where you exaggerate just how bad Hayama is.

And not just you, but lot of the dislike I see here and on /a/ is so disproportionate to his actions that I'm left scratching my head on why is he so despised when he is honestly no worse than any other asshole character in this series.

Like, did I miss something from the autumn elections? Or is it because you had to deal with him for over 100 chapters?

I've eaten some game meat, though never the bear, and it's a taste that you have to get used to. Honestly for 99,9% of situations, regular meat is better.

[up]I exaggerate a lot of things I say here, since it's not a courtroom a total accuracy is less important than conveying how I feel about stuff. It's hardly limited to Hayama.

For why he's so hated... I dunno, he just hits all the wrong chords I guess. Also, the big part for most of people is that he was never brought down a peg until now. I think when Souma beats him the hate will subside.

Not a big on Japanese or seafood so a lot of what goes on in the series is wasted on me.

[up][up] Well that's true and you're entitled to your opinion but reading spoilers for the Autumn Elections for the first time, I honestly thought he was some uber jerk who spit in Soma's food or something. When he just ended up being a bit of a dick, I was honestly confused lol.

Those are reasons I guess, I do recall people really not liking Erina at first for similar reasons. Tho she got slightly less flak for pretty obvious reasons.

[up]I was confused about that too at first, but since we're done with it, that's all I'll say. I've seen one person really dislike Erina, though they like more now.

A good way to describe was that she's supposed to be a Tsundere, but it doesn't really works since she genuinely disliked him for most of the series. That and she's, as he put it "standard hot", which makes her less interesting, at least design wise.

Erina got less flak because her interactions with Souma were played for comedy as much as anything. Hayama plays the "SUPER GENIUS RIVAL" completely straight and with no hints of irony so he's under greater scrutiny.

Also, I don't think anyone, me included had anything bad to say about Hayama during the Moon Festival arc.

I'm not sure if having nothing to say about someone during an arc where he barely showed up (except to show that he, Alice and Ryou were doing a shit job of working together) really counts.

That did make Erina more bearable to people, Soma didn't take her anywhere near as seriously as she did, but still her first introduction and subsequent plans to get him expelled didn't do her any favors for people at first.

Its actually kinda funny to me how much vitriol those two characters got, I was more or less indifferent to both since their archetypes kinda bored me.

Yeah, Erina used to have a vocal hatedom that couldn't wait for her downfall. Funny how those guys disappeared over time. You don't really see them much these days.

Because it became apparent that she was never actually going to make good on her threats and just more or less ignored Soma after that, plus she was Out of Focus during the Autumn Elections and shortly afterward Azami was introduced and he pretty much took all of the heat for Erina's earlier attitude.

At that point, there's really no reason to dislike her anymore especially since she's finally gotten over her earlier prejudice toward Soma.

Though she's his obvious love interest, Soma even having a genuine love interest seems so weird. I guess that's the price you pay for never showing him interested in girls, dating, and the like.

Is she actually his love interest if he doesn't show interest though? Hell, Megumi hasn't even shown a romantic attraction to him yet and its usually her archetype who come around to their feelings first.

I always found it amusing how practically everyone sees Soma and Erina as a Foregone Conclusion in terms of pairings, and everything in-universe points to that too....except that neither one of them have showed interest in the other yet.

Either Tsukada knows what he's doing and he's messing around with tropes or he actually seems to be going through long and arduous task of them slowly growing closer to each other. That said, its still a Shonen so we'll probably get the standard "Last Minute Hook Up in the Distant Finale" that we normally get.

Soma is not a guy who would dance around an issue or be to embarrassed to confess, so I imagine making him unaware that girls are a thing is pretty much the only way to make to make the romantic subplot take longer than it's needed for him to walk up to Erina and start talking. When he realizes his feelings he's going to act fast and without hesitation, like always.

Well, it's also that we are still on the first year and their relationship had come a long way since the beginning, so I don't think the manga is in any kind of hurry in that regard. They got time.

The closest we got is Chapter 61 when she remembers that she thought of Soma during her preliminary match and got flustered when she realized that.

You know...I wish Soma used more of what he's actually learned from the school. There's always focus on what he's learned from a match or watching a rival, or just thought up on the spot, but there isn't a lot that the actual classes have helped him.

I mean, I get he's supposed to be the outsider rebel and all, but a little acknowledgement would be nice.

[up]That's less because he is from the rebel area and more because we've never actually been show Tootsuki teaching anything to anyone.

The school, it's projects and faculty members have mostly been used as a constant source for testing the character's cooking skills, not as an actual place of learning.
