I don't think having a generic picture is going to work. And considering previous discussion, I'd like to see an actual suggestion first. The concept is sound in itself, with two images, but it can be hard to actually show properly.
Check out my fanfiction!Good idea, here's a sandbox version.
That works for me.
That looks good. That the trope description is a long one adds to it as well.
Same idea as Punched Across the Room.
(Though if you look at it, it's not the same gun.)

Check out my fanfiction! That's actually not half bad...better than I was thinking it would be when I first saw this in the list.
Concept is sound, although I'm not sure I like the images chosen; they don't look like the same gun.
Moon◊Yeah, I know they're not the same gun, I just grabbed an example that blended in with the case. I can't seem to find the type that matches pistol one from The Duel, it could be a fake prop for all I know about pre-WWI firearms.
Chekhovs Gun 2 The Pictures is the suggestion, yes? Even though a bit JAFAAC-y, I like it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI don't see why it's JAFAAC. It is good and I vote for it, though in a way I'd rather not have a gun because the quote and name and description all include them.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I agree with that, but it's certainly better than no image. And the visuals are very simple, so it's strikingly effective.
Better would be:
- Something other than a gun that works equally well.
- A gun that looks exactly the same in both images.

Check out my fanfiction! All I know is that it's a flintlock pistol, probably Russian. I put up the question on the IMFDb and am just going thru their page on flintlocks at this point.
EDIT: ...and that's going nowhere. I say use it like it is and replace the top picture later if someone figures out what they used in the film.

How about the Winchester from Shaun of the Dead? Clear shot of the gun hanging on the wall near the beginning right there — all you need is to find a clear shot of the gun being used — there's probably some here.
Can't view the video, so I need a screen of it to judge it.
Check out my fanfiction!Okay — grabbed https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Shaun-Winchester1-300_9312.png and https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Shaun-Winchester2-300_5827.png:
Edit: Obvious caption to the first: "Why do you think there's a rifle above the bar?" "Because the pub's called 'The Winchester'." Possibly the next line, "Exactly", could be the caption to the second.

I like that. I'd suggest that the images be split at the top and bottom (or in the middle) of the page. I know we've done that on at least one other page...
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Not sure about the caption, though the pic has only one real fault. It's a bit dark. If it's possible to brighten it up a bit it's more or less exactly like the one in Sandbox.Chekhovs Gun 2 The Pictures, but with a matching gun.
Punched Across the Room, as I mentioned before?

Check out my fanfiction! That's one, yes. I think there's at least one other one, too. The important thing is that we've occasionally done something that's contrary to the "One image, at the top of the page, on the right" standard when it helps illustrate the trope.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I have no attachment to the captions — I'll see if I can't make them a little brighter.

I'm good w/ it.
Moon◊Still need captions.
First one:
There's a rifle above the bar because the name of the place is "The Winchester"
Second caption:
That's not the only reason, though...
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Sure, that works.
I'm thinking this might be good for a two images. One of some pistols just sitting there and another at the end of the article with someone firing a gun.
My suggestion for the latter would be from a movie adaptation of Chekhov's The Duel.◊ For the first image, one with pistols of the same make & model, perhaps, as the novella has a scene with the pistols being played with, but it doesn't seem to have made it into the film. And if a picture of that type of pistol can't be found, a generic looking set◊ could probably work as well.
Previous thread.
