It's happening, guys!

We lost Drew Carey, but we still have Ryan, Wayne and Captain Hair!

This sounds interesting. I'm just afraid I'll be disappointed if the show doesn't turn out to be good.

[up] They're returning with the 3 regulars who did most the actual improvisation (alongside the rotating selection of 4th players), so I think they'd have to make an effort to actually ruin things.

Count me as excited. grin

Aisha Tyler's a good pick for host (and H Jon Benjamin would make a good guest now that I think of it) and I hope Proops get's the fourth chair a couple of times a season. Also wouldn't be surprised if Drew guests. Even if it only goes a couple of seasons, if they film it the same way they did last time we'll probably get four or five seasons worth of episodes, and I bet CW will do like ABC and use it as a schedule-plugger.

As for dream 4th chair, the long over-due return of Stephen Fry. For that matter John Barrowman would be cool and CW would go for the cross-promotion as even if Barrowmerlyn doesn't make it to Arrow season 2 IIRC he's doing a competition show for them similar to the ones he hosts in the UK.

The best part about this? It's The CW, not the Game Show Network or some other premium channel not available to basic cable.

Heck, CW is a broadcast channel, is it not?

Hmm, interesting. I'd rather they have more than one rotating slot, I never liked Wayne anyway.

I guess the most important thing is that they make it one performance=one episode. Also want good games, a good host, guests who can improvise humour. Clive Anderson, for example, was a good host but wouldn't have been able to improvise like the participents. Drew Carrey and John Barrowman have neither of those skills, Stephen Fry has both.

Don't worry, it'll be a half hour of Hoedowns every week.

Seriously, I think the only people who liked Hoedown were the producers, and that was just because they lived off the fumes of rage from the performers.

Stephen Fry didn't continue with Whose Line because he found improv too stressful. But man, he made the radio series good.

John Barrowman would be an awesome 4th chair. Joel McHale could probably do it. Maybe Chris Hardwick. Simon Pegg could do a special episode. They wouldn't have to explain who Hugh Laurie is to Americans now. I wonder if Jim Parsons can improv. Or Wil Wheaton. Or Seth Macfarlane (the Oscars proved that he's not owned body and soul by Fox).

I liked it better when they had two rotating slots also. I like Wayne fine in small doses, but playing to his strengths got a bit old (they had him singing like every week. Chip's good at improv singing too, so it wasn't as tired when he was on to join him), and with him on the show, the punchline was racism as often as it was homophobia.

Man, I've gotten cynical about the ABC show. I want to see more of the original, but as far as I know, only the first two series have been released, at least in America.

Laurie doesn't do this kind of thing at all. I suppose I let my disliking of Barrowman and Carey colour my post, but I do find it amusing anyone would want Drew Carey as an improv performer, even if they like his hosting.

Last time I checked the first two series were the only ones available on DVD anywhere.

This news is indeed good news!

I do have to wonder, though, if us poor unfortunate souls in the UK will get a piece of the action.

When I heard this news, it was just like BWAKOOOOOOOOOOM!!

I literally don't think I could be any more excited. Like, physically, right now, I would wager that, if you were to inject me with thirty liters of adrenaline, I would be no more excited than I currently am. Actually, I'd probably be less excited, considering that amount of adrenaline being forcibly injected into my bloodstream would likely be fatal, and it is significantly harder to be excited about a TV show when you're dead.

Also, to someone mentioning Wil Wheaton being on the show: [insert M. Bison's "Yes! Yes!" here]

The howdowns weren't always bad, but yeah, they got annoying after a while.

Anyway, definitely psyched for this. I was a very regular watcher of this show and got a lot of laughs out of it. The CW seems like a funny choice. I don't currently watch anything on there, so I guess this will bring the number of shows I watch on there to one.

'The players hated Hoedown, which is a big part of why the producers eventually started spamming it.

I guess the CW is now known as the network that brings back fan favorites. I mean, I think the only other show they brought back was Buffy, but there's still kinda a pattern.

Losing Drew Carey (a stupidly unfunny man with as much comic talent as Keanu Reaves has emotional range) is fantastic news, and bodes very well for this. Looks like they're bringing back the best of this show (Mochrie and Styles) at the expense of the worst. Looking forward to it very much!

Drew was always quite good in 90 second alphabet, I thought.

And while he was still one of the weakest, he was significantly better in Improv-a-Ganza.

I didn't mind Carey; he seemed to realize he'd do less well then the others, which I took as his reason for sitting out most of the time. I hope Greg Proops comes back, too; he always seemed the strongest performer of their rotating fourth performers.

Anybody remember the very early episode that had Stephen Colbert?
