Suggestion: Spiders Are Scary

I was mildy surprised that this trope didn't have an image yet, so I looked for one. How about this image◊? It evokes Good Colors, Evil Colors, and looks pretty threatening, assuming something midway between a defensive posture and lunging at someone, and its fangs are exposed. It's not a Giant Spider. It also seems like the image is not copyrighted.

It may have to do with how some people freak out at the mere image of a spider.

That said, the suggestion is good.

I was gonna suggest "Boo!" as the caption for the OP, but paired with 5.1 it's even better.

Is it a good thing to have a cute spider for a trope called Spiders Are Scary?

I think the contrast is funny. I prefer the Cracked quote since it refers to fear.

I think those tiny spiders look Ugly Cute rather than frightening. But then again, I don't have arachnophobia...

Ugly Cute? They're outright adorable! But the contrast is funny.

(And I know we have another page somewhere - or did at one point, I can't remember the title - that used an image of a basket of kittens in lieu of actually depicting the trope, so there's some precedent.)

The snake looks like it could be striking or constricting the spider at the same time. It's kind of difficult to tell that the spider is winning.

Just as long as the picture is not too creepy for me. You have no idea how unnerving those kinds of pictures are to me.

I like 12.2. But I still like the cute spider idea better. :P

The way the panel is tilted away from the camera is a mark against it. It would also be more appropriate for Giant Spider.

(I think it's funny that the spider is panicking and sweating at the sight of Tintin, too, though...)

Any more thoughts on the suggestions so far? I continue to favour one of the spidorable photos, myself - it's less bothersome for actual arachnophobes and plays against common misconceptions! it's win-win! - but at the very least we need more discussion.

I understand there are people who prefer works examples over real life photography?

There's some really good pics, but nothing's impressing me enough to want to favor it over the tiny spider + "Boo!" combo.
