Taylor Swift just released her new single.

Could this ruin "Despacito"'s chances of breaking the record? We'll just have to watch what happens in the coming weeks.

That's a hard 'No'. For all its flaws, "Despacito" is an actual song. The only part that resembles and actual finished song on Swift's new single is the pre-chorus, the rest is just a jumbled mess. The chorus literally has no melody nor a hook.

I've never liked Swift, but even I expected something more of the lead single from her new album.

Like that's gonna stop it from being a hit.

[up] They were credited because the chorus sounds like "I'm Too Sexy".

LWYMMD didn't dethrone Descapito: it stamped it into the DUST. (with a lyric video too) https://atrl.net/forums/topic/65980-taylor-dethroned-despacito-on-youtube/

The song is definitely in guilty pleasure territory for me, but their is nothing guilty about my love for that music video, damn.

Any word on "Look What You Made Me Do"'s position this week?

If not, then it must be heading for a #1 debut next week instead of a climb to the top from some other random position.

[up] In the Facebook livestream I linked above, they mentioned that Billboard will have an article coming later about whether or not it debuts this week and its chances of being #1 next week.

It could debut this week from only a few days on airplay. It's worth keeping in mind that the tracking period for sales and streaming (which is from Friday to Thursday) is different from the tracking period for airplay (Monday to Sunday), so if it debuts this week, it's because of the airplay it got from Friday to Sunday.

As for whether or not it'll be #1 next week, it's pretty much a lock at this point. I don't think any song is gonna beat its great sales and streaming for this week at least.

Wait what the fuck? Did I miss something? How did Yo Gottis Rake it Up enter the top 10? I was expecting Bank Account or Strip that Down to enter the top 10.

[up]So basically Despacito won't beat the record?

[up] For Rake it Up, the music video came out recently, so that's the likely reason.

As for Despacito, it probably won't beat the record for consecutive weeks, no, though there's still technically the possibility of it setting the record for most total weeks if LWYMMD somehow drops (which, let's be honest, probably won't happen, it's a beast).

[up] "Shake It Off" fell from #1 for eight weeks before reclaiming the top spot, so it's by no means impossible.

I mean, the video's positively batshit. It seems to be a result of a whiteboard brainstorming where everyone would shout out things that they thought of when they heard the word "Expensive", went through the entire 100-item list, and then decided to put them all in a blender.

And of course there absolutely must be an unfunny skit at the end of the music video. Well, at least it's not in the middle of the video.

@taylor video:

So what, is this some Rihanna-esque Start of Darkness we're seeing?

Also I'm fairly certain the video is supposed to be referencing her past videos for whatever reason.

[up] For a second there, I thought you were uploading an official teaser for her next music videos. But I guessed she moved on from the Polaroid era.
The whole MV is basically a Reference Overdosed to all the drama in her life. Sums up by this post on Reddit. Which isn't actually bad as I do enjoy the meta-satirical take.

Cool, a new number one, and Rockstar debuts right below it. Rockstar's a bit of a grower for me, I like it.

Also, have to congratulate BTS on making the Hot 100 for the first time, DNA's a pleasant enough song. Don't see it getting much bigger, but it's nice to see it around.
