Would be funny if Atlus went oh people don't like the idol stuff LET'S GIVE THEM MORE IDOL CONTENT AND SINGING! That will teach them to not like our games.

Someone posted an image from #FE in /smtg/ and it was a screenshot of a Cosmic Egg of all things. Not the exact same as Strange Journeys or Finals.

But red and lots of glowing.

So we finally have an English title for this game. It's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Also, the game will not be dubbed. The voice tracks will remain in Japanese.

Well at least it's still coming out. I noticed that they're now advertising it as a new IP that happens to have Fire Emblem characters in it. They really should've done that from the beginning.

"William" with the "i"s reversed spells "William."

I wonder if their decision not to bother with dubbing has to do with the game's poor reception.

They brought attention to it in the west so they feel obligated to bring it over, but aren't gonna waste any effort on a game they don't expect to really sell.

Well, this game features a lot of singing and dubbing songs is really freaking hard so there's that.

I was under the impression they didn't dub it in English because there are a lot of songs.

It didn't have a poor reception, it had poor sales but a good reception. Even won an award.

I think Nintendo not dubbing something is unprecedented. Well, I don't really care, and a dub wouldn't help it much anyway, so it's probably for the best. Coming out sooner than I thought, which is good.

Yeah, dubbing songs is notoriously difficult. Frankly, it's a miracle that Lost in Thoughts All Alone turned out as well as it did. I imagine that a game like this is translator's nightmare.

The way they justify not doing the dub is it takes place in Japan so it will just have subtitles to translate the Japanese.

Though when I heard them say that I thought it meant an option for Japanese with subtitles.

Apparently it wasn't expected to sale high either, as it sold through 40% of its shipment.

That's hilarious reasoning but I don't mind it.

I didn't hear anything about the game being sub-only, just that the original Japanese voice acting will be intact. Didn't they also mention at E3 that they were working on the English voice acting?

Looks like they changed their minds. I can hardly blame them, translating songs from one language and making it sound like it did in the original is hard and there aren't many singing V As in english, especially male ones.

They said that translating the songs would be hard. At the time that was taken to mean "finding V As who can sing" would be hard, but they apparently referred to making the lyrics comprehensible in English. My guess is that the decision to not translate is due to sales; if the game were at cult hit level or up we'd be hearing Performa in English.

I have no idea.

All they said was because it takes place in Japan they will have it in Japanese with subtitles.

Heck Dancing All Night got a dub so if this game did not get one they must have felt it was not worth it.

Spinoff or not, Persona is their big moneymaker, of course that was dubbed.

Plus, there was no singing in DAN (which is a shame because they had Rena Strober) and it's a fairly light game in terms of actual dialogue. Really, there was no reason for them not to.
