TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Technically they did respond in the way that they made minor changes without posting about them. The issue of course being that it wasn't obvious.

On the trope name... After my research, I'm vehemently against "Burnout Babe".

Earliest known use of "burnout" for teenagers specifically seems to be in Penelope Eckert's 1989: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jocks_and_Burnouts - And hasn't made it into a dictionary.

I only know what it is because it was mentioned in ''Because Internet'' by Gretchen McCulloch.

And Eckert's use of "burnout" seems to be just a slight shift from "burnt out by drugs, given the mention of "chemicals"" in here, if you search for "chemicals".

If we're using "Burnout" in that way, then all they need to be using drugs, and a lot more than the description which is only focusing on clothing.

and So — the question would be, is this a big enough problem that the trope should be unlaunched? Unsure of the answer, but I can see a case for it.

And it's not just the last three posts that went unaddressed. At least four users over the course of the TLP's two-month lifespan brought up the name as an issue which went completely unaddressed. That's grounds to send it back.

...and there's another launch that has unresolved title issues. My post is the last post on the Belated Child Discipline draft; how do we feel about that one?

I removed any crosswicks for Burnout Babe given that one of the issues was with the name itself.

Bringing up Smart People Shoot again since its sponsor came up in ATT due to crosswicking the trope.

I can send it back if there's a big concern, though the post-launch antics of the sponsor don't inherently mean the trope itself is problematic. It's definitely still bizarre, though.

If no one agrees with me, that's one thing. But it being so underbaked is part of why I think the OP had antics; it seems he was unsure of examples because the trope can be interpreted incredibly broad (Smart People Shoot as a name in particular seems to just attract examples of "smart" + "ranged") without any necessary correlation.

It does seem underbaked but I'd just like more discussion before I kick things back.

Newly launched trope The Infested has a trigger warning at the top of the page. We don't generally do those, (though in this case i could see the argument that it's different when the page itself is potentially triggering, not just the topic) . Should that be removed?

Yeah, we aren't really allowed to have those.

At the very least it could be toned down. I changed it to sound less panicked, if someone Else agrees with the removal then I'm in favor of that also

Also, going back to Belated Child Discipline, since there are concerns I didn't bring up in the draft—I think a concept that's essentially just "Grew a Spine, but for a parent-sibling relationship" is often just going to be the result of writers wanting the parent to step up eventually, rather than something that's really a separate trope. It's also often done for the sake of intended Character Perception Evolution, since the difficulty of parenting can become more sympathetic in hindsight. The scope is just really unclear in general; it's not clear if the trope is both about the parent/child or just one of them.

Stealth launches aren't inherently bad; just ping the sponsor if there's no serious issues.

I'm leaning towards unlaunching Belated Child Discipline since it does seem that there's still some stuff to work out.

I had some concerns about Driven By A Love Interest, which just launched. I didn't think its going to remain distinct from Living Emotional Crutch and/or Satellite Love Interest— it had enough hats, but several people in the comments expressed the same concern and were not responded to

I'm also worried of Trope Decay and turn it into a clone of those two; but as it stands, I think it's fine.
Maybe the examples could focus more on what actions the characters make out of love, instaed of simply saying "this guy is here only because he loves!".

I was pinging mainly because Lark was concerned. Don't have too many thoughts on the matter.
