Not a fan.
Neither am I.
Agreeing with the above.
Stop caring and embrace nullness.We need a picture of the crypt in Hot Fuzz. With Sergeant Powell's decaying corpse or the teenagers' dead bodies littering the ground... then have a picture of the living statue there.
Something like this?
How about a frame of Bambi walking off into the snow after his mother is shot, followed by the birds singing? That never fails to give me whiplash.
I tend to dislike multi-panel images but maybe a frame from early (romantic comedy) and a frame from late (concentration camp) in La Vita Bella?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.That could work, but I feel it would be better to show Mood Whiplash within a scene. The best examples don't have buildup, they come out of nowhere. Hence why I'm still supporting Bambi's mom's death and the birds... one of the biggest Tearjerkers of Disney followed directly by "Let's sing a gay little spring song!"
Ok but good luck communicating all (or most of) that in an image. Can't rely on people knowing Bambi.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan."Your mother can't be with you anymore."
*black image, both implying transition to next scene and acting as Beat*
"TRA LA LA LA LA SPRING IS GREAT YAY"note
I know you hate multipart images, but this one could work. I really need to get to bed, but here's the Disney Screencaps page for it if anyone wants to give it a shot.

Moon◊Two examples squished in a single image should work, namely:
Top-left pic: cheery scene from example 1;
top-right pic: following sad scene from example 1;
bottom-left pic: sad scene from example 2;
bottom-right pic: following happy scene from example 2.
So, no matter what the two examples you choose come from, a 4-in-1 page image like this immediately shows the trope works both ways.
That said, the fact most of these scenes - especially the sad ones - are prone to spoilers... now that is a problem.
I'm from Piedmont. No relation with Piedmon, mind you!That could work. For example, we can use from this comic: second page, first panel and second page, last panel.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Here is an image based on the Bambi suggestions.
Kinda macro-y, so I'm ambivalent.
Agreed...I like the concept, but as is it does seem a little too macro-fied.
Make it look more like DVD subtitles, I guess. Might help to use the actual dialog instead of paraphrasing (IIRC the adult deer says "Your mother can't be with you anymore," instead of outright saying "Your mother is dead").
Moon◊There's also the scene where they're happily eating and then the hunter arrives.
Here's my suggestion from Disney's headless horseman:
18 is an option. Can't remember how long it took between the two scenes.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanA few seconds. There was some animation turning the laughing expressions into frightened ones, but that would be difficult to cap.
I like that. Relatively succinct for two panels.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Yes, it works.
Check out my fanfiction!+1 for 18.
I like that one too.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.It's good with me; uploaded, potholed, and tagged. Do we want a caption?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.
I think this Calvin And Hobbes strip illustrates the trope nicely (the To Be Or Not To Be pile of glorp), by assembling the tenth, fourteenth and the Beat Panels in between.
