If anyone can pull that off, it's the guys behind these movies. I believe that fully. So yeah, it's going to be sad when we have to say goodbye to the dragons, but I'm confident it'll be satisfying and fulfilling of Hiccup's journey.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatAs long as it is not the extinction of the dragons, it is possible indeed.
Maybe it is just me because I work on endangered species, but I can't see that and "fulfilling ending" working together, ever.
In the book, it never says the dragons go extinct. It just says they return to the sea.
Looking for some stories?Who is Debois? <_< If this is something related to books, aren't books already almost totally different besides few same named characters?
Debois directed both HTTYD films.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. You know, this movie holds up less the more I think about it. I still think it's good/passable, but I don't think it's great. It doesn't feel as unique and interesting as the first one, Drago was bland, Valka was just kind of there and Hiccup edged dangerously close to Soapbox Sadie territory at times. Maybe I'd think better of it had it come out last year.

Looking for some stories?Actually seconded.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. It still beats Brave though. Then again, almost anything does.
And this is relevant to the discussion... how?
Because we should appreciate GOOD movies more. As in, lets not expect every movie to be a Pixar Masterpiece, even they have their off days.
Good movies can be appreciated without comparing them to other films.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Geez, I didn't say I thought it was bad. All I said was that I don't think it's as good as I thought it was when I first saw it. Would I watch it again? Definitely. Am I going to get the DVD? Probably.

Looking for some stories?Just came to say that Ruffnut is hilarious.
"With hard work and dedication, I will become a splendid ninja!"I watched the movie today. This is what I thought.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. So I saw the movie today and went in blind other than the fact that people said it was good and the articles that went around a while back about Hiccup's mother. So my train of thought during That Scene went like this:
Holy crap, Toothless shot and didn't miss. ...This is a family movie, Like They Would Really Do It. ...This is a Disney Death, right? Any second he's going to wake up. ...woah, did they really? ...Meaningful Viking Funeral...shit, he really is... *sniffle, heartbreak*
Yeah, I got blindsided, and I think that's the most heartwrenching scene of that sort I've seen in a long time, especially after really pulling off the heartwarming reunion scene moments before.
So add mine to the long list of praise; I'd have liked to see more character development for Velka and Drago like others, but I appreciate that they pulled off a serious sequel without being a rehash, made the character's feel emotionally real and believable, for having meaningful consequences: victories earned and defeats made more meaningful because for the most part there are no miracles.

It's pretty interesting how "Romantic Flight" seems to have become a full blown Leitmotif for Astrid in this movie, where it was more strictly a shared theme for Astrid and Hiccup's relationship in the first movie.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Won the Golden Globe baby!
After constant nominations, falling through several owners and having to severely lay off several of its staff I feel this is a win for Dream Works Animation overall.
Congrats Dragon!
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.-silently raises both middle fingers-
Looking for some stories?I wouldn't mind that bad if not for the fact that The LEGO Movie was also this year.
God why do you hate this movie so much? Wait, nevermind I know.
It didnt live up to your ridiculously high standards. I even warned you (I wont say who I am) about this happening when you first watched the trailer for the movie, I even said something along the lines of "Be careful, it could be the next Brave for all we know". You still set yourself up for dissapointment. Its not the movie who is at fault here.
I cant say Im a saint though, I did the same thing for Kung Fu Panda 2 and I hate it for it.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.It winning the Golden Globe doesn't make a huge difference to me. While I would've preferred The LEGO Movie or even Big Hero 6 taking the win, I'm just glad that it wasn't The Penguins of Madagascar.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Yeah I recognize some of the movie's problems, but that was extremely rude on this forum.

I have watched and enjoyed the second movie. The animation of the Dragons in particular was godlike, they were the most expressive mute characters since Wall-E (not only Hiccup, Valka's dragon(ness?) was amazing too). Evil guy is a bit too evil, but the movie is long enough that I don't miss his backstory.
Now, with the reveals on the third movie's possible ending, that sounds too close to Mass Effect 3 's ending to me, and it is not a good thing. Not that Happily Ever After is required, but there is a different between Bittersweet and Meaningless. To have the Vikings live for ten years with the dragons after centuries of struggle, and then see the dragons disappear...no, I really do not see a single way for this to turn well and to be a satisfying ending of the trilogy in retrospect. As for the Mass Effect 3 comparison, it is the whole "you can prove that Organics and Synthetics can live together...but three hours later something that does not share your opinion forces you to go against this conclusion".
