The alternative station in my area plays Led Zeppelin occasionally. Not that I'm complaining, but I don't consider Black Dog to be alternative.
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."I would kill for a station that played Zep regularly. The classic stations around here seem about as fond of them as they are of Great White.

The classic rock stations around here seem to be unaware that the Moh's scale of rock hardness goes above 2. Seriously, "Maneater" is probably the heaviest they get.
Watch out boys, she'll lick you up / Whoa oh, here she comes / She's an anteater…
I remember some online "outlaw country" station playing "8th of November" by Big and Rich. First of all, Big and Rich are FAR from "outlaw country", and even if they were, "8th of November" is pretty much one of the softer songs in their catalog.
Oh man, I loved those guys when they first came out. But by the time they put out "Lost in This Moment", it was clear that they didn't have that creative spark anymore.
Keep in mind, I live in the NY/NJ area with NY-based stations set.
Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" on a station that plays hard/modern rock like System of a Down, Rise Against, and Avenged Sevenfold.
I don't care if Imagine Dragons claims to be a indie rock band. Their appearance on pop stations and their synthesized instrumentations completely discount them from being a rock band.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. That statement also disqualifies Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
& : Don't forget Pink Floyd, Rush, Yes, Led Zeppelin, and even the freaking Beatles. And if you count punk and post-punk as subgenres of rock, you can get even more examples of synth bands like Talking Heads.
I know Imagine Dragons aren't as heavy as the other bands you listed so I'd admit they probably do sound out of place on that station, but discounting them from being rock for being mainstream or for having instruments beyond vocals/drums/bass seems a bit arbitrary. And this is from someone who tends to argue genres are kinda arbitrary to begin with.
The alt station played Aerosmith today. The classic rock station played Better Than Ezra only a few days ago. I don't know how to feel anymore.
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."You're telling someone in a music forum not to take music so seriously? Okay then.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. They’re one of those bands where, no matter which of their songs is playing, I will never change the radio station if they’re on.
I’ve learned how to navigate Spotify; playlists! I now have playlists of prog-rock music for each year stretching back to 2000. If one gets stale, I can switch to a different year. Easy.
Of course, Spotify has this “suggested song” thing which seems to have absolutely zero to do with the listener’s regular listening habits. “Locked Out of Heaven” I’ll let play through but “Call Me Maybe”? Absolutely not!
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!I was listening to a "metal" station live 365 and they played "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit. Now i like Lit, but they are not metal in any shape or form. You cant even really qualify them as hard rock.
@Synths in rock:
All of those classic rock bands at least did stuff that were clearly rock.
I have not heard ONE THING from Imagine Dragons that REMOTELY qualifies them as being rock. I'll only give them that they're slightly less commercialized than what Maroon 5 lost their soul to.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page....how so? "Rock" is an incredibly broad term. Everything from Led Zeppelin to Nine Days to Radiohead to Trumans Water is "rock."
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Rock is probably the broadest musical genre out there. And I doubt the rock stations all across the nation would stop playing Imagine Dragons just because you say it isn't rock.
There's this station in town that mostly plays crappy metal with a mix of Rage Against the Machine and Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, and for some reason they have a fondness for Skillet. Now, while Skillet is a crappy ?metal/rock? band, they also happen to be a "Christian" band (Oh, it's playing on a Christian station? The lyrics make absolutely no biblical sense, but they seem to be talking about God! Oh, it's playing on a secular station? The male and female vocal leads must have some kind of chemistry...) Anyway, probably not the wackiest choice, except that a band that plays on nationally syndicated Christian radio also plays on a station with some of the most vulgar station bumpers allowed on air.
You are a lovely human being.Imagine Dragons aren't very hardcore or anything, but there isn't any factor that disqualifies them from being a rock band that isn't also shared by several other unambiguous rock bands.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianYou know, I love how everyone says I'm blind to the whole of rock music, but no one is disagreeing with me that Imagine Dragons isn't rock. Everyone here is arguing the wrong thing here, so I'm starting to assume that I'm right in the end.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Have you actually read any of their posts? They all disagreed with you completely.
Let's just change the subject here.
For example (SHAMELESS PLUG TIME!!), I'm actually a DJ on my college's radio station (which you can listen to here). Our format is modern rock ("WITH AN EDGE!!!!!") and alternative music, but most of the time I just completely eschew the format to play whatever damn music I want, playing everything from They Might Be Giants to The Beatles to Kanye West.
...however, I noticed when browsing through the songs in the computer there that one song that we have in regular rotation is The Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday"...a song that probably cannot be considered by any stretch of the term "modern rock WITH AN EDGE!!!!!!!!!" to say the least.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I still don't get how having synths and being popular makes something not rock music, but only if it's a modern band. You make no sense.
The vast majority of electric guitar music, particularly music with distortion. is rock music of some form. "Radioactive", "YYZ", "Down in the Park", "E-Musik", "Strange Days", "When You Sleep", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Virginia Plain"—all are rock songs that use synths or samplers that bear little to no resemblance to one another.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.
One of the classic rock stations in my area has recently become fond of playing Nickelback's "How You Remind Me". Needless to say, I've switched to the other classic rock station.
