I liked FF #8 quite a lot. I like seeing the two most business-minded pair bounce off each other like that. Mount Princessmore was amusing (I wonder if that was added to before or after Tirek?), and some of the little gags (like the season 5 script) were great.

Finally got the latest two comics. The Trixie one was fun, and I like how they gave Trixie and Babs a little bonding moment. Although I kinda wish they had put a bit more work into the mystery and the clues surrounding it.

The Rarity and Applejack one was amazing. I laughed my head off through the whole thing. My only nitpick is the part where AJ and Rarity straight up steal a plane. Seriously, I know they were desperate, but I don't think either of them would commit a felony over it.

I read the Friends Forever issue 8. I noticed Rarity and Applejack were actually EXCITED to go to Coltifornia Adventure. Guess that one had a big multi-year redesign as well. I wonder if they have a Carts Land. tongue

Issue 23 of the main series is out. Outside of Cassie being SOOOO Easily Forgiven, it was definitely a fun issue. I've always wanted to see the pets work together again since Just For Sidekicks and this doesn't disappoint. It was interesting to see Angel in the leader role and Opal was just hilarious.

Comic issue #23 was very cute and a lot of fun. I thought it did a good job distinguishing the levels of intelligence of the pets and the ponies, with only Angel and Owloysius looking particularly smart, the former more so. I did think the use of Zecora's potions in the end was cheating a bit on the premise, but whatever. It was a bit surprising that we got another creature that sings to take control of ponies, though with a greater degree of control and a different motive than the Rainbow Rocks villains. It's a bit disappointing that we didn't get a creepy, sticky to touch kelpie, and this design is a bit too similar to that of the merponies shown previously, but whatever.. Still, it did a pretty good job, especially as a mostly dialogue-free comic. I don't know what the trophies in dialogue boxes were supposed to represent, though.

...And of course, people are already raising an uproar over Twilight forgiving Cassie despite the fact that forgiveness is one of the main themes of the series. >.>

And, was going to buy a bunch of the comics I've missed, but then then shit had to go wrong and make me out a bunch of money.

@Some New Guy: The problem is the way it was all set up. If there was a scene where Cassie showed her attending to the Water Sprites (and it didn't have to explicitly show it. Just show the Water Sprites trying to draw her attention off panel and show Cassie's reaction) or had Cassie given herself up but ask that they at least help her bring the Water Sprites back home before she accepts her punishment, it probably wouldn't have gotten criticism it got. Heck, showing the Water Sprites actually not doing very well would have helped. For a lot of people, the way it played out came off as "Wait wait! I have a Freudian Excuse! I'm trying to help this Water Sprites so you have to forgive me!" even if that's not what she said. For a lot of people it almost came off as an insulting parody of the all characters' tendency to forgive.

Still, compared to past villains who have been redeemed/forgiven, Cassie was honestly small time and really doesn't seem to be worth the outrage I've seen.

It's odd that she didn't ask the Ponies to help her at the very least. Instead mind control ponies to do her bidding. I know some people who really don't like mind control, to the point where they conclude that it's a Moral Event Horizon in of itself.

I think it's because of the last-minute redemption. If it was gradual and well-meant, like Discord's second redemption, then it'd probably have less of a raging moment. At least have them admit We Could Have Avoided All This or whatever.

Though this helped spawn a meme where Twilight is saying the same thing towards other villains. Basically "Cassie Did Nothing Wrong".

I thought Cassie was too easily forgiven too (and really, this isn't the first time, as Luna and Sunset Shimmer were both pretty iffy for me). She was more or less a mini-Sombra as far as enslavement goes, with a smaller scope, but more forceful methods. Sure, she had good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that jazz.

In short, I enjoyed the zaniness of the pets' interactions, but the story itself fell flat with me.

I would have preferred if her motives had remained a mystery, with an open-ended conclusion that would have left the door open for a later return to deal with the Mane Six themselves.

Look! Power Ponies Annual preview! Hammy pun villain! Fourth wall breaking! Humdrum is a pony!

...This comic isn't gonna pull us into an Alternate Universe where we have to defeat the villains to get out, is it?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind letting off some steam by taking down some comic villains. tongue

One thing I noticed about the ad I saw at (or maybe directly on the back, I can't remember) of the pet issue, was that while the Power Ponies are all different from the main six, there's still a level of something to their aesthetic (that I'm reasonably sure isn't the costume) that lets me look at them and almost immediately tie them to a specific main six pony. Hell, I don't even remember half of the actual Power Ponies' names, so I don't think I'm subconsciously connecting via that, either. >.>

Fun issue today. Celestia apparently runs a banana booth, and even princesses have to wait in line for Apple Con. And it wasn't just Twilight, either - Princess Cadence was waiting in line.

Read Friends Forever #9, and I was disappointed. In particular, Flim and Flam's conflict was resolved far more easily than I expected, and they didn't really do anything interesting with them being separated. They didn't even have them compete over the same crowd or anything! The art was good, however.

I enjoyed the Granny & Flim Flam issue, if only because we got a slightly more sympathetic take on the brothers instead of just "They're conning ponies, Apples have to stop them" again.

Anyways, the synopsis for Friends Forever 12, Mane Comic 26, and an Equestria Girls Holiday special are out.

More Pinkie & Twilight! In which Twilight has to help cure Pinkie's dru-errr, sweets addiction. There will be laughs.

Sheriff Applejack! I wonder if this Story Arc is going to be a homage to The Magnificent Seven, which in itself is a Western homage to Seven Samurai. Hey, with Spike we've got seven!

And lastly, the EG comic focuses on Sunset Shimmer. Wonder if it takes place before or after Rainbow Rocks, because if before there's gonna be a bit of a Downer Ending since at the beginning of RR the rest of the school still doesn't trust her. Oh well, yay more Sunset!

I liked how it gave deeper insight into both the brothers and Granny Smith, despite the relative ease of solving the conflict. One thing that did put me off, though, was how after Granny got them to make up and they asked her if they could do anything, she asked them to vandalize the oranges instead of asking them to stop conning ponies. :I.

More preview images from the 2014 annual

I'm really loving the various takes on the Power Ponies in comparison to how the mane six played them. I think the one that's really catching my eye is the eternally angry Mistress Mare-vellous. They're definitely giving her a '90s Anti-Hero vibe.

So the annual is out and more than a few are Rooting for the Empire. Then again, when the villains are more fun and more cooperative than the Jerkass heroes...
