Well that's stupid. The kind of petulant man-children who delude them self into thinking that show is good because it's trendy aren't the kind of people who actually buy things, they're the kind who pirate things.
Still, as a lover of the comics industry, I'm happy to see more comics on the shelves aimed at other demographics, so I do hope this does well. When was the last time we saw a proper "girly" comic on the shelves, really?

Personally, I'm glad to see Western comics that aren't automatically superhero stories for a change. 
Come to think of it, did the My Little Pony franchise have comics before Generation 4 came onto the scene?

It is not that surprising. Power Puff Girls from the same Network had a comic too. Edit: GI JOE and Transformers, from the same toy manufacturer, have comics too. We may have been cheated out of the Conan(And Zoids) crossover but this could still have some amusing potential.

Well, then having MLPFIM comics released in North America is going to set a new record for the franchise!
Come to think of it, the fourth generation seems to setting new records for the franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a storyline of the ponies having to go to Tartarus!

My sister was quite into the original My Little Pony when she was little, and had a couple of issues of the magazine. They weren't so much comics as illustrated stories, but close enough.
And Luna has to become Nightmare Moon again. I figure something like if Chrysalis attacks Ponyville at night, she might take out Celestia easily enough, but then Luna says "You may have taken out my sister" (starts transforming) "but can you withstand the power of Nightmare Moon?" And then she uses her awesome dark magic to buy the mane cast time to retrieve the Elements of Harmony.

I meant more along the lines of the comics being able to feature things like a storyline starring Big Macintosh (My Little Pony Wiki spells it as Big McIntosh, interestingly enough), or...a storyline starring little Scootaloo!
Yeah, the comics could explore What Could Have Been scenarios! 
That's kind of the standard with tie-in comics. Return visits by previous guests, and stories focused on minor characters to fill in because they can't get too ambitious with the mane cast.

I would definitely like to see at least one storyline with Princess Celestia and Princess Luna as the main characters. Specifically, I'd like to know what those two do when they're not on-screen! We'd probably see a lot of jaw-dropping stuff! 
The same goes for Zecora. Maybe they could go into her backstory, showing where she came from, and why she went from a faraway land and settled in the Everfree Forest all alone.
There's a load of potential to be had here!

I only expect Derpy to be involved in Funny Background Events as she is in the show, after the "Derpygate" fiasco Hasbro seems hesitant to even refer to her by name (Derpy or her original name Ditzy Doo). Its unlikely we'll ever get an episode or comic starring her, and I think that's for the best. Too much fanservice can be a bad thing.
Anyways, it seems a few pages are being shown off somewhere. It certainly looks like Andy Price's art style. I found this picture
