It's out in the UK the 16th, so there has been at least one press screening as far as I know.

the reviews are so Marmite it's interesting.

People are unanimously praising the acting abilities of the cast and the action sequences, but a lot of people feel the villains aren't able to receive enough attention and mood is inconsistent.

Personally I'm not worried with people saying the mood is inconsistent, I like a good mood swing. But Max and or Harry deserve good writing after what Dr. Connors got in the last movie.

What I hate about reboots is you can't criticize the previous version anymore without people thinking you're just a sour-graping little kitty - unless the reboot is done by someone like Nolan and so thoroughly owns the previous version in most people's minds, in which case the tables are turned now, cats.

I reserve the right to mock all movies equally, reboot or not. Nolan's contributions to the Batman movie franchise are certainly appreciated. They're dark, gritty, there's intrigue and politics. The only problems with Nolan's movies are this Batman guy who keeps flying into all these serious stories with these incredible characters wearing armored pajamas and talking like he got hit in the face with a shovel.

Likewise, Raimi's contributions to the Spider Man movie franchise are also appreciated. The first one revived the flagging comic book movie genre, the second one is considered one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, and the third one, reviled though it may be, actually is capable of standing in its own right (I just saw it again the other day, and it's really not as bad as I had initially thought it was in theaters; turns out it just couldn't live up to the hype it had preceding it). The only real problems with them are this Tobey Mac Guire guy standing around like a deer caught in the headlights and that Kirsten Dunst chick's inability to wear a bra or remain awake during her emotional scenes.

The movies are still enjoyable. Are they better than Amazing? Probably. Are they better than Amazing2? Well, we won't know until we see it. grin

Spider-Man 1 is fine, the best of 'em because it's polished while TASM was rough, and just enough relationship drama.

Spider-Man 2 had power loss that works like erectile dysfunction and too much drama.

Spider-Man 3 had magic amnesia, a magic butler and even more drama. But Sandman was the best villain because he wasn't driven crazy like every other villain. Though he's also sympathetic to a degree like every other villain. The franchise needs a Complete Monster.

I really would have enjoyed to have seen a version of Spider-Man 3 where Harry had the Sandman's role. The focus was on the feud between Harry and Peter escalating and being aggravated by the symbiote. It would have freed more time for Eddie Brock to have been developed into a character with an interesting motivation.

I think the acting and direction of Eddie Brock and Venom in Spider-Man 3 was pretty good actually, but his writing did him a disservice, I really want Brock to be a villain who actually has a point. Spectacular managed to make him tragedy and give him a reason to team up with the symbiote, but even his motivation makes no sense once he joins with it and understands Peter is a irresponsible jerk because he has commitments as Spider-Man.

I gotta admit that Harry rushing in to save Peter is one of my favorite film moments.

Part of what made that work was that Harry had spent all three movies being miserable and vindictive, because he had grown to blame other people for all of his troubles. Seeing him get past all that and becoming a hero by the end was rather satisfying. It also fit the loose theme of the movie that a Super Hero Origin and a Start of Darkness is a very fine line. Structural issues were the primary problem of the movie, not the basic premise, which was meant to be about Grey-and-Gray Morality.

The real villain of Spider-Man three is the previous generation; Aunt May and William Defoe convincing their children that morality is black and white.

A while ago I had a weird ass dream that Spidey's costume was peeling off, like , dissolving sorta, idk how to put it. It was coming off in chunks after being exposed to rain. I think it was my subconscious being disappointed in the new costume tongue

Not that I actually dislike it it's just my interpretation

There's been some really great spider-man adverts for various products on tv recently. I'm actually really in favour of them; I think Spider-man should feel like a celebrity treated like any other real life personality.

Some of Spider-Man's charm is that if you go to New York City you half expect to glimpse the web head sling from building to building.

Heh, it's been announced that Venom and Sinister Six will be in cinemas before Spider Man 4.

Well, on the one hand good; I prefer characters or teams to be established than than spun off; but this does suggest that the Symbiote suit makes an appearance in Amazing Spider-Man 3 as well as the remaining slots of the Six.

I think such a movie could work. If Norman takes centre stage as the big bad and focus on him being a twisted father figure for Peter (which would make sense if 2 has Harry fundamentally fail Norman) the Symbiote could be worked in a way for Norman to improve his new found prodigy. Introduce Doc Ock as a scientist who has his accident, but not necessarily centre stage in this struggle.

Of course, I haven't seen two yet, and that might through a spanner into my prediction.

IIRC, the Symbiote appears in one or two of the trailers for AMS 2, so it's not so farfetched that it might show up in 3.

Plus, I'm expecting at least one member of the Six to be introduced in the Six movie itself.

I never noticed the symbiote in any of the trailers. Then again, I haven't seen them all. Can anyone confirm that? Cause it sounds like they might be taking a page from Ultimate Spider-man if it's showing up this early.

Whoops. My bad. It turns out the director just hinted that the symbiote will show up in storage at Oscorp - I thought it actually showed up in the trailer next to the arms and wings and such. Oops.

So, it looks like the Alien origin will be ignored again. I guess it makes sense. It's way too much trouble.

And there wasn't even a good reason for it appearing in Spider Man 3. It literally just fell out of the sky like that.

Being created in a lab ala the Ultimate Spider-Man book is better in this case.
