Update: This page now has a subtrope which is also not thriving - The Dragons Come Back

I've cross-wicked Not So Extinct but what else can we do to help these tropes out?

Of the 13 examples listed for Not So Extinct atm, 3 are dragons and 1 is supposedly an inversion of the dragon trope.

It seems like it just wasn't linked to from anywhere (ie: no wicks). It has less wicks than it has examples, which means the examples weren't reciprocated. If no one can find the page, then obviously no one will ever add examples.

This is why it's important to crosswick examples after launch.

Alright, I cross-linked the examples that could just be copy-pasted and still make sense. There's a few others, but I don't know enough about the work to rewrite them for a works page.

This crosswicking thing makes me wish we could automate it.

Well, you still have to write the same example with different formulations.

Could this trope be indexed anywhere else? It's just on Speculative Fiction atm.

Do these fit?

  • Death Tropes: It is about extinction, the death of a species, though more of a reverse in this case.
  • Otherness Tropes: It's often about fantasy creatures believed to not exist.

[up]I'd say definitely not on the Otherness Tropes (Otherness is about issues of identity, usually in contrast to something/someone else). I'm not sure about the Death Tropes. What about Animal Tropes?

It's not about animals. It includes elves and whatnot.

The description claims that a believed-extinct race is repeatedly mentioned before a living example turns up; I initially thought it was just the latter, but then I was partly mixing it up with Species Lost and Found and thinking of Bob the Dinosaur from Dilbert.

[up][up] Humans have a sub-index on Animal Tropes. I would say we can put it there, Fantastic Sapient Species Tropes... maybe Index of Fictional Creatures, but not so certain of that one.

Cross-wicking and indexing for Not So Extinct is done. The relationship between it and its subtrope The Dragons Come Back needs to be explained though and the subtrope (also not thriving) needs cross-wicking.

I'll do some crosswicking on The Dragons Come Back. To my knolwedge, the difference between Not So Extinct as currently described is The Law of Conservation of Detail - you don't mention something if it's truly extinct - while The Dragons Come Back is about the comeback itself.

This is a YKTTW crash (launched with one hat). Can we move discussion of it to the new Special Efforts page for all premature launches, and close this thread?
