Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

[up] Ah, it was you! Anyway, the full thing appears to be on You Tube, which is a good thing to know.

After watching The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens (which one Troper called "glorious"), I may have discovered another funbad movie in the same vein. But we'll see - in fact, I bought a few movies off Amazon Video that seem like they might be funbad enough for us. Let's hope they are!

Tonight... A movie about a 1980's time-traveller who is repeatedly inserted into World War I to aid the fictional British fighter pilot James Bigglesworth.

Released here in the USA as Biggles: Adventures in Time, otherwise known simply as Biggles.

Featuring Peter Cushing.

Alrighty now, we got another episode of How TV Ruined Your Life sandwiched between some Retsupurae shenanigans.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we're traveling back through time to World War I in Biggles.

The closest thing I can find to anything resembling a trailer or sneak peek to tonight's movie is, well, a video rip of the production title cards that somebody uploaded just to showcase the Hallmark Entertainment logo or something like that. Keep your eyes peeled, and you just might spot the movie title...

With that, I assure everyone that the premise behind this film is right up our alley. Tonight: Old "Johnboy Walton" sinks to the depths of making a TV family movie about a sasquatch playing basketball. Equal parts Air Bud and Teen Wolf, I suppose. Get ready for the terribly titled Big and Hairy.

A sasquatch playing basketball. Wow. I hope it's entertaining.

Meanwhile, I'm watching through the cheap movies I got off Amazon video. If one of them is good for us, I'll let us know.

[up]Just list off the titles. I'm always curious.

Anyway, we'll be getting things rolling with Extreme Dinosaurs and finding out if TERRY CREWS can handle the hot wings.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Johnboy Walton meets something Big and Hairy, and, lordy, I hope it ain't pornographic.

With that string of basketball scenes from movies and television (which I have to admit was utterly insane when all those different scenes are taken out of any other contexts and viewed all at once), I regret that it didn't occur to me until now that I should've remembered Alien: Resurrection:

Anyway, tonight we're setting up some repeat viewing that probably hasn't been seen around here since the very early days of this coven: Arena ([awesome][awesome][awesome]).

Here's the story of a human who, in the year 4038, becomes the unlikely rising star in the Milky Way's most popular sport: Intergalactic MMA, or simply called "The Arena" in the film (hence the title).

Can the puny Earth Man go toe-to-pseudopod with the biggest, meanest, and ugliest characters in the galaxy and rise up to become a top contender? FIND OUT!

I'm going to be volunteering at my town's theater selling concessions tonight, so I won't be able to attend tonight's movie. I'll be there for tomorrow, though.

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo...

This Kung Fu Friday, we're gearing up for the sequel to last weeks Hong Kong action fare Killer Angels. This is Devil Hunters.

No trailer online, but I did find the film's opening scene in glorious 240p resolution. I assure everyone that the complete movie will look a lot nicer than this...

Because I can't wait until August...

Those of you who were around last August may recall that our traditional screening of our all-time favorite movie, Starcrash, featured a peculiar edit we were not accustomed to and was missing a bunch of our favorite lines and moments. That will not be a problem tonight, though, because we finally reacquired our preferred coven edit.

So get ready to rejoin Caroline Munro, Marjoe Gortner, Christopher Plummer, Joe Spinell... and some guy named "David Hasselhoff" in Luigi Cozzi's very own Star Wars knockoff.

So after our recent showcase of Luis Buñuel's magnificent, surreal art film The Exterminating Angel and the fantastic story of a high-society dinner party where the guests find themselves inexplicably unable to leave, tonight we'll be watching Buñuel's lesser-known but far superior, more surreal inversion of that premise in The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, as a group of high-society friends repeatedly get together for a dinner but are never able to eat.

Be sure to take note tonight of how Buñuel is exposing the ugliness and stupidity lurking beneath the surface of a decaying European aristocracy through the middle class social ritual of the dinner meal when shaping your own descriptive analysis.

So I'm starting us off early with an old episode of Don't Forget Your Toothbrush (The one with the surprise stripper boyfriend).

Then, at the top of the coming hour, watch Jack Lemmon in The April Fools, which probably has absolutely nothing to do with April Fools Day. (Haha, APRIL FOOLS, I suppose!)

IMDb says this is an American film but the look and dubbed dialogue makes this seem like an Italian movie through and through. Nevertheless, this is actually from the writer/director of Hell Comes to Frogtown ([awesome][awesome]) with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (which apparently had sequels that I've never heard of before, until, literally, just this moment).

IMDb's plot synopsis is simple enough:

In a futuristic society, rebels fighting against a fascist state are aided by a group of roller-skating nuns called the Bod Sisters.

The official trailer is truly something special and easily some of Don LaFontaine's best trailer voiceover work, but the trailer is also a bit NSFW so I'm not going to embed it here. However, if you can handle female nudity, then I'd highly recommend giving it a look HERE. Below is another small clip from the movie.

Get ready to go for a spin with Roller Blade.

Alright, I'll get us rolling with another episode of Gamesmaster bookended with some new videos from Jerma and cRiTiKaL.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, get brace yourselves for some post-apocalyptic roller skating insanity from the creator of Hell Comes to Frog Town in Roller Blade.

[up]Simpsons did it!

Anyway, I may have gotten the wrong impression from this trailer. Having believed initially that this features a suburban housewife who is transformed into a dog... I don't think that's what happens here at all. Rather than showcasing a Gregor Samsa-like metamorphosis, I believe this is about an overstressed wife and mom who undergoes a severe mental breakdown and only starts behaving like a dog.

Either way, the message boils down to "Everybody treats hardworking, under-appreciated women like dogs."

Look forward to Bitch.

Seriously.

Wtf.

Also, shooter is a woman this time.

[up]I don't know what to tell ya. Perhaps the female culprit had some issues that would be semi-relevant to tonight's movie, except she just couldn't go through with the whole "acting like a dog" thing. Or perhaps this isn't the best forum to discuss this particular topic.

Anyway, happening right now, Bob Ross is painting a pretty picture, and Jerma and Cr1TiKaL have new videos.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we watch Bitch.

I'm not entirely sure if we've rewatched this one before. I do know this is among the first few dozen movies we've ever watched here, starting in 2012, and I know it's delightfully amazing.

Walter Koenig plays our space faring hero by virtue of being the seventh-or-eighth-most popular character/actor from the original Star Trek cast, and Bruce Campbell plays second banana to Walter Koenig because the first half of this sentence isn't ridiculous enough already.

The plot premise is a bit hazy to me after all this time, but, basically, Koenig and Campbell are astronauts who discover an alien artifact floating in outer space. The artifact turns out to be some kind of extraterrestrial weapon that recycles any and all biological and electronic material for its own deadly uses, so Koenig and Campbell are then sent to the moon, where NASA hopes they can uncover the mystery of the alien weapon's origin and save all of planet Earth.

This is Moontrap ([awesome][awesome][awesome])...

EDIT: I never realized this before, but in all that time since we first watched this movie and now... A sequel film was released just last year.

I told my coworker about us watching Bitch and what we thought of it, including the complaint that the movie took a ludicrous premise and took it too seriously.

She said, "Exactly what I was thinking! I was wondering, 'am I supposed to laugh, or am I supposed to take this whole thing seriously?'" She said the best part was when the husband got down on all fours and acted like a dog himself alongside his wife.

[up]I didn't have any problem with a "ludicrous premise" or that it may be meant to be taken seriously. My biggest problem was the clueless, jerkass husband/father (and most every other "normal" character) who I was somehow supposed to take seriously enough to actually care about him.

Anyway, we got a new gameshow from Super Deluxe called "Thrift Haul," plus an assortment of videos from Jerma and Cr1TiKaL... and Tommy Wiseau.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell set a course for Moontrap.
