Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

So we got Superhuman Samurai SyberSquad and Legends of the Hidden Temple to fire us up.

And, at the top of the top of the coming hour, the director of Starcrash brings us Lou Ferrigno as Hercules!

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow night's movie. I hope it turns out to be very entertaining. While it's no Cool Cat, it is the second time I ordered an obscure movie online for the sole purpose of sharing it.

So we're gonna watch some goofy New Yorker's self-funded superhero movie that he wrote, produced and directed. (And apparently, he's played in the movie by his brother, because I guess he didn't feel like acting in his own movie)

If nothing else, Black Cougar should be... interesting.

If you're wondering how I heard of it in the first place, years ago, when Portal of Evil was still relevant, I used to visit its collection of wacky websites. One of them was "Black Cougar", and they showed the videos of the guy, Silvio Disalvatore, promoting his "superhero whose sole purpose is to protect children" on the TV show American Inventor. I thought it sounded dumb, and I was curious to know more, so I looked up what I could find about this strange vanity project. There wasn't much to find out though.

Anyway, for whatever reason, something reminded me of it fairly recently, and I looked to see if I could find it anywhere. Well, I had to order it from Amazon, so I did.

Please spread the word so we can get a good crowd to check out this madness.

Maybe use this video to get their attention:

[up][up]These sorts of interviews are pretty much the closest we're gonna get to a substantial trailer. And, yeah, here's the superhero Black Cougar.

(By the way, isn't there already a DC or Marvel character who goes by "Black Panther"?)

Also, I've been neglecting to mention that we're very quickly approaching our 1,000th movie in the coven. One more than that, and we got enough to fill a book. Not sure which milestone should be deemed more important, but I'm leaning towards 1,001.

[up][up]Lol, the only things this has in common with Cool Cat are that it's a single guy's vanity project made by someone who's clearly excited about his own work, and that I had to order it online in order to get ahold of it. Oh, and it's rather obscure!

Hopefully being So Bad, It's Good will be another trait it has in common with Cool Cat.

So, for your movie, Trump tried to go into movie directing? - a comment Bluerock gave me on Skype when I showed him that "trailer" [lol]

Black Cougar and Cool Cat oughta be like Batman and Robin.

Anyway, as I've said yesterday, I won't be here tonight, since I have to prepare my presentation of the final report at college. Enjoy the movie and the week, everyone.[tup]

[up][up][up] I meant in the vanity project sense. I'm certain this movie will win several major awards.

Okay, we got new videos from Retsupurae and more classic Legends of the Hidden Temple to get us fired up.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we check out the film debut of Marvel Comics's Black Panther— I mean, some... guy's superhero character Black Cougar.

So instead of "Daddy Derek" making a movie about his fursuit "son", which is what Cool Cat is about,

here we have a director making a movie about himself as a superhero. I doubt it's a coincidence that Silvio DiSalvatore wrote, produced and directed a movie featuring Silvio DiSal as the lead character. I think that becoming a superhero is the director's personal dream ever since he was a kid, and he finally got the chance to do it. Oh, and it was also part Pinocchio as well, with Silvio, the teen with the director's name, secretly being a robot (he had an artificial heart and brain) and then later crying OMG REAL TEARS near the end.

We got a turnout of 10 people at most for this one; though mostly it was 9. It got ★★★.

It was super giffable near the end, when the action got insane, complete with someone being thrown through a wall leaving behind a Looney Tunes-esque imprint. If there are specific scenes you'd like me to GIF, lemme know. That said, I got this one at the request of two viewers.

Given the political climate of the world we live in today (and the fact that America's ineptitude to do anything about gun violence since Sandy Hook and countless other shooting massacres), tonight seems as good a time as any to revisit the "idyllic", batshit utopia envisioned by the NRA in Death Wish 3.

Do we have a place for that GIF? I wonder what it should be called.

[up]I'm adding it to the gallery, but we could do a lot better than that for a new chat emote. The majority of the action in that clip (everything before the wine glass smashing over Our Hero's forearm) isn't even occurring inside the camera frame. I lay blame on the novice film director for that one, though; what's the point of lingering on a guy shuffling something in his hands if his hands ain't gonna appear in the frame?

Anyway, we got more classic Legends of the Hidden Temple and the return of the Gamesmaster.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we settle down with the greatest yet most comically bad "vigilante movie" ever made, Death Wish 3, with Charles Bronson (and a pre-Star Trek TNG Marina Sertis and a pre-Bill & Ted Alex Winter... I believe both intended to be playing Hispanics, IIRC.)

Still soon approaching our 1,000th movie. Would rather celebrate our 1,001st when we can fill our own book.

Anyway, tonight we're returning to the horror genre for the first time since our month-long binge in October and revisiting the surprisingly smart, solidly good, underrated 80's classic Witchboard.

Alright, Retsupurae are shining the spotlight on another failed Kickstarter and the Gamesmaster is... mastering games.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit the under-appreciated 80's classic Witchboard.

So tonight we roll out Part 1 in the Snake Eater trilogy, which helped launch the career of B-Movie action star Lorenzo Lamas... Which would be far more notable if anybody could even so much as remember one other Lorenzo Lamas movie we've seen here before.

So yeah, Snake Eater.

Okay, we're taking it easy now with Retsupurae turning the spotlight on a failed "steampunk virtual reality thing" on Kickstarter and another awful, obscure 80's game show.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Lorenzo Lamas makes a name for himself (which we're sure to forget again, anyway) in Snake Eater.

God, I'm so late on this today...

Tonight's movie is a Roger Corman-produced sci-fi flick starring David Carradine and a blonde-haired Sherilyn Fenn of Twin Peaks. As far as I'm concerned, that all speaks for itself. This is... Crime Zone.

Mind the French language trailer.

Roger Corman... that name sounds familiar. What else is he known for? I think he's known for a lot of stuff.
