Mozart is not very interesting.

Neither are The Beatles.

Adele is a whiny singer who can't seem to stop crying about heartbreak. I avoided the word "bitch" because I hear she's actually pretty nice.

Katy Perry actually put out a few alright songs. Though I might be saying this after The Movie brainwashed me :/

Video Game Music, 8-bit or otherwise, is a valid "genre".

[up][up] I actually like Katy Perry a lot...there's something about her voice and songs that clicks with me in a way that most other modern pop doesn't.

On-topic, and pretty obscure for this audience: Kim Karnes' "Betty Davis Eyes" sucks...not the song itself, but her voice and the way she sings it are incredibly grating.

This thread is probably going to be locked...but anyway here are mine:

  • Justin Bieber is So Okay, It's Average. I know it is internet law to insert a jab at him at every instance where someone says something neutral about him (seriously, I've cleaned up countless natter about him), but he's not that bad.
  • I like some mainstream rap/hip hop. I say that because the most popular genre on TV tropes seem to be rock and metal (and even the rap thread only likes alternative rappers, I remember the time that I posted about Drake in there and they tore me a new one).
  • I think the Beatles are okay. I mean I respect the influence they had on popular music, but I only like 2 songs by them (Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby). Though I don't know if loving the Beatles is really a popular opinion (especially since they broke up like 40 years ago), I think they just have a Vocal Minority of fans.
  • In the same vein as this, I don't like classic rock. It's not that great to me. Maybe it's because I grew up listening to R&B and soca music.
  • I like a lot of pop music. Or I can tolerate it.

Radiohead is mediocre.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.

Some more:

  • I generally don't mind Auto-Tune.

  • Also, I don't get why so many of my peers are so in love with Sara Evans. IMO she's So Okay, It's Average and seems to be desperately searching for a musical identity. One moment she's hardcore neo-trad like Patty Loveless; the next she's aiming for Lady Antebellum-esque crossovers.

  • Not a big fan of The Beatles either. Most of their songs seem to be either airheaded ditties with three-note melodies ("Love Me Do" is barely even a SONG in my book), or bizarre compositions in 17.25/8 time with the vocals slowed down, the instruments sped up, the bass line played backwards, gibberish lyrics about capybara eating beef jerky while floating on a pontoon, and so many other studio tricks thrown in at seemingly random.

  • I don't see why Kid Rock has such a hatedom.

  • Though their music was great, I think Brooks And Dunn shouldn't have bothered being a duo if Kix Brooks was going to be pushed to the background so often. (I'm told he was far more active than Ronnie Dunn in a live setting, but seriously, you can't even hear Kix most of the time on their songs.)

  • Toby Keith is NOT a jingoistic meathead with an ego the size of Alaska. Also, "Red Solo Cup" is epic.

West Germany, naturally.

"Adele is a whiny singer who can't seem to stop crying about heartbreak."

I can't stand Adele. I honestly don't get why people love her so much.

This thread is going to be locked, for sure.

Ringo Starr is actually one of the greatest rock and roll drummers of all time. He is far more important than all of his flashier contemporaries who get much more love than he does. It boggles my mind that people still consider him the weak link in the Beatles.

Mozart is not very interesting.

Neither are The Beatles.

This baffles me. I get how you could personally not like their music. I do not get how you could find two of the most influential shapers of modern western music and culture at large "not interesting." But I suppose if you have no interest in music theory, culture, or history, it's possible.

Not a big fan of The Beatles either.

I respect that you have not liked anything you've heard from the Beatles. However, your criticism, as it is worded, makes it sound like you haven't actually heard very much of the Beatles. Their very simple stuff was very early in their career, is representative of a relatively small percentage of their body of work, and is usually not the reason they are held in such high regard. The "bizarre compositions," by your description, are a miniscule percentage of their material, and not something that I particularly enjoy either.

If you haven't heard them, I highly recommend you investigate Help!, Rubber Soul, and possibly Revolver, as they feature mature subject matter and composition, without the simplicity of "Love Me Do," or the experimentalism for its own sake of some of the later works you seem to be criticizing - just skip the last track on Revolver, as it's experimental dreck.

If you have heard those albums, then I'm puzzled as to how you would have come away with that impression of their material.

You know what? I don't dislike Radiohead so much. I know just think they're overrated, really only a decent band.

"I actually thought Friday was a decent song."

Friday is awesome. It's a genuinely fun song.

Regardless, Rebecca Black got way more hate than she deserved. It was just disgusting how some people reacted.

Here's an opinion that's sure to be unpopular: I hate metal. Hate it. Heavy metal, death metal, symphonic metal, all of it. There are a couple bands I like (Metallica, G'n'R, Black Sabbath), but most of it is completely unlistenable, as far as I'm concerned. Especially the vocals. Any vocalist who just growls and screams should be forbidden from going anywhere near a microphone.

Disco rules. All of it.

Skrillex is great and "Bangarang" is a hell of a tune.

Memphis rap is the best kind of rap, with the Dirty South in a close second. (although some would consider Memphis to be under the banner of southern)

I hate this generic dancepop crap everybody and their grandmother seems to be doing lately. Every song sounds the same.

@Tiamatty: Hating metal and screams is actually a very popular opinion, I know so many people who share this one.

No regret shall pass over the threshold!
