Alternatively, if you got 7, daltar lost 11, and Parable didn't gain any, you'd be it.

Y'know, we could solve this issue once and for all by just deleting the RP section of the forum.

I mean, it's not like there are other sites out there you can use for that sort of thing. Sites that, by and large, generally have layouts that work and look much better with creative writing scribbled on top of them. The TvTropes forum wasn't really designed with that sort of thing in mind. Throwing moderators at it isn't going to change that. If it's genuinely gotten to be a moderation problem, if it genuinely attracts people so horribly immature that it's becoming time consuming to wade through the drama, it really might be best to just amputate the infection before it can spread.

Yeah, no. That I know of, it isn't all that bad at all. R Ps don't cause all that much drama or at least not anymore than other sections of the forum. Problem is that when drama does happen, it tends to have been long in the making and by then it becomes quite laborious to see where things went wrong and to review the case. Thus a dedicated mod for the RP section can be more involved in those issues, can get to know the different players and can dedicate more time to shift through the entire case without it affecting the mods looking over the other areas. R Ps is not infected or incredibly drama prone, the problem is that when issues do arise it becomes laborious to review the case. Or at least that is the situation as I know of it.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Plenty of things aren't specifically "made" for certain functions, but people manage to make them work in their own ways. I'd say that things like the lack of a word post limit, the ability to collect and keep multiple forum avatars, etc. are really damn unique to the TV Tropes forums, which is part of why I stayed here so long over going to some other place.

I'm pretty damn sure that ripping the subforum out wouldn't actually solve anything, unless you think forcing a portion of the forum goers that don't cause massive forum-wide drama to leave is a solution.

To me, it sounds like the moderators are collectively blaming the RP board and everyone in it for a handful of incidents perpetrated by people who have now been banned. How is it our fault that Fusionman did what he did, for example?

Add in that these boards tend to consume moderator time while not really being pertinent to this site's purpose. These right-hand fora are just for fun; if they become a pain to moderate the admins have little objections to scrap them.

[up]I think he got banned for something here, a few R Ps were disrupted and people complained in the Edit banned thread.

That said, my memory of the old edit banned thread is not all what it could be.

The site itself wasn't really designed with a forum in mind. Its something Eddie cobbled together after something happened to the one we used to use. We have enough problems to cause the staff headaches but by and large we get by fine.

I like being here, and would like to stay here and that's why I support anything that keeps the staff from taking too much time from the more important issues and keeps us in the R Ps happy and drama free.

@Mr. AHR: The issue with Fusionman is that while I was in a lot of R Ps and his skill wasn't necessarily held in high regard, he never did anything rule breaking or necessarily dickish. The one time he came close, people stood ready over the hollar button before figuring out he was innocent [P Ms flew around asking whether anyone had context for it and asking what he was thinking. It was resolved when a post shortly after showed it to be some inside joke that both were aware of and other R Pers weren't]. The only time I saw a GM actually speak out against him for actions in or out of a game, it was a case of the GM being immature and annoyed at Fusion for being sort of awkward but not anything that could be blamed on him directly. To my knowledge it's wasn't a problem building on the RP boards that spilled into other boards, the worst that could be told to a mod before hand was that he was sort of odd sometimes.

I'm by no means saying that there is no drama on the RP board but I don't think the Mods are necessarily counting Fusion against us.

If the moderators cut the right side of the forums, drama won't end. Forums will always have drama, and designating a scapegoat isn't going to change that.

If we're going to eliminate any section of the forums that can potentially cause controversy, OTC should be the next to go. If we're trying to eliminate anything that's not absolutely necessary, then I recommend deleting Recommendations next.

Cutting a third of the forums isn't going to magically make the members go away. They'll just migrate to the middle and left side of the forums and chatter there. At least the "cancerous" right side keeps all the dreaded fun and games out of sight, out of mind for the other two thirds of the forum.

If you start cutting sections for acting like a normal forum acts, you'll soon find yourself with only the bare bones necessities. Have fun with that.

First off, this is a topic to find an RP mod so that we won't have to cut the thread, so let's stay on that topic.

Second, much like what Rena said, the drama won't end if this is cut. If anything, it will either cause more drama or cause the RP drama to spill to other threads, since their own battle ground is gone. At least that's what I think.

I don't think cutting the subsection is set for the near future.

There's a serious question of how to deal with drama; how much of it really leaves the board into the main site and how much can really be blamed on the board specifically and how much is cases of odd commenters behaving within the forum [or at least being kept in line by G Ms who can deal swift and specific justice] but finding reasons to vent or be dramatic in other boards. Pin pointing this and how and why it might move to another board will help us avoiding further issues without running the next mod to an early grave in a madhouse.

Or in a more direct way to help, Scholable is helping to compile a set of rules on conduct for the boards that's worth looking over if you're interested in the fate of the boards. You can find it over here that is worth ironing out and should further help prevent unnecessary drama.

How long will this vote be open? The outcome looks fairly clear by this point.

First, at least a week.

Second, we need to actually look into the candidates. The majority of votes will not just earn them the position.

Also, I need to build some tools for a one-area moderator. I figure all they'll need will be thumpin' powers. That and a button on posts in RP to call for local moderation, which will essentially send a PM to the RP mod.

If a person needs to be banned, the RP mod can refer it to regular mods for action. I'll also put in an RP-only ban.
