I can flip it and clean the text through replacement, but not well; the quality will end up even worse. Don't know where to get a better scan.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Off-topic, but would the Hekawi from F Troop count as an example of a mondegreen? Name being derived from them getting lost and one of them asking "where the heck are we?", becoming "we're the Hekawi". (Apparently dervied from a much more colorful joke that had existed prior, involving the Fukawi...)
I'd just add it instead of wasting time here, but it's kind of locked.

Moon◊I don't really like the current image, since unless you know what song the lyrics are from (and I don't) you have no idea what the little girl is doing wrong here.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Even if we don't know the lyrics, the pic has more than enough there to let us know that she's messing things up. Now, if we could actually find the song, that would be even better, but I don't think that's enough of an issue to worry with.

I found◊ a bigger version of the current image, but the text is in Spanish. It still may turn out helpful though, if we decide to flip the pic and replace the text anyway.

Found it in English.
Link removed.

I've got it copied now, so you might want to remove the link now (scanlation links are frowned upon).

That seems to have scaled down better than the current version.
Anyway, I call free swap for image quality, so I'm going to change the image now pending any action to change the image further.
Well, I would, but it's a stupid Locked Page.
Darn it.

What's the point of the picture? It doesn't make any sense unless you already understand what the trope, and even then...
That looks much better; if I didn't have to leave right now I'd go ahead and make the switch. The only question I have is whether or not we want it flipped; I'm good either way.
^^ Seems like the page would be better with no picture.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I think the page's current picture is fine, although maybe a hottip or something could be added to the image's caption to clarify the original song/song lyrics in question, if needed.
The new image, which is just a sized up and less artifacted version of the current, also includes a note at the bottom of the page.
Yes, I think the explanation at the bottom or a hottip work fine, although I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how "we're singing" or "we're happy" can be misheard as "it's painful". Something Lost in Translation perhaps? Either way, I think the image still gets the point across that the words she's singing aren't the right words to the song.

But not singing the right words does not make it a Mondegreen. Unless we can somehow figure out how "happy" sounds like "painful", then this really demonstrates another trope, such as Indecipherable Lyrics or Something Something Leonard Bernstein, or even Cloud Cuckoolander.

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Suggested replacement
Second and third panel of this (the real lyrics are "remember the film, and"; and yes, it does sound like what he's singing here).

Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! Not bad, but a little small for my taste. I have to assume that, in the Yotsuba example, the actual Japanese can be translated in those different ways depending on how the characters are read...we need someone who could translate the original Japanese to confirm, but I doubt that'll be an easy thing to find.
Send me in the Japanese RAW scan of that Yotsuba page, and I'll see what I can do with those lyrics.

"Your kindness gives me the presentiment I can be reborn. Now, I want to believe at least in you." - Kaori YaeI like that. The third and last panels might also be a good combination. It is a bit small, though.
EDIT: Nevermind, found the answer. Why We Can't Have Nice Things strikes again.

How about a picture of Gladly, the Cross-eyed Bear?
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
????
I have a message from another time...As opposed to "Gladly, the cross I bear", I assume...if we could get a reference to the lyrics that we could pothole, I think that could work.
The pic on Mondegreen is fine, but can someone find the original manga pages so we can get cleaner/bigger scans? Maybe it's just this monitor, but they seem artifacted as all get out and it's sloppily constructed. Also, do we want to flip the pic?
