Damn Marvel did you really have to make your heroes into a bunch of fucking jackasses?

Its absolutely awful that Steves speech makes complete sense & actually makes him sympathetic.

Jesus man. sad

[up]x4 Might be Kingdom Hearts related. Probably just a "Secret Empire starts now!" or movie trailer.

I mean he has a point-ish about mutants but the Inhumans don't pledge allegiance to the Kree. A lot of them don't even pledge allegiance to Medusa or Black Bolt.

You don't get Inhuman history dump with terrigenesis. Usually you don't even know what's going on. Kamala thought she was a mutant for a while.

So yeah you are intolerant if your reason for not liking Inhumans is the very distant alien genetics. They were born and raised in good ol' Earthsylvania.

Stop being terrible, Hydra Cap.

Still try to keep up with TV Tropes but not often these days.

Too bad, I've missed you.

Now if Hydra Steve's rant is meant to be a Trump metaphor..it's not a bad one. How it turns out depends entirely on whether Steve's complaints will be shown to be bunkum to be dismissed or treated as legit problems that the heroes'll have to take real steps to fix.

Because right now he's kind of going after some of the most basic Weasels that keep superhero stories going. After that things can't just go bacl to normal they have to change.

Hydra Steve's speech...I think you are supposed to see his point. After all, I think it was Mick Foley who said the best heel isn't someone who just acts evil, it's someone who just thinks they're acting righteously.

I'll be honest, I kinda found Roxane Gay's work on WoW to be... a little underwhelming. I wanted to like it, and the characters are good, but the quality of the dialogue itself comes off as a little childish and simplistic compared to Coates' much more compelling more nuanced stuff. Maybe it's a prose vs. spoken kind of thing.

Anyway Kingdom Hearts news is highly unlikely but I'd kind of be game for it.

They've done it before with Civil War and it had the same Necessary Weasel problem there too.

He has a point, just about stuff that's simply far too ingrained into the genre to fight about. Like, the mutant metaphor is the biggest one. Yes, I get why normal people have a right to be afraid of mutants and hate them. It just doesn't work when you've been selling people mutants for 50 years and making a constant point of saying mutant racism is bad, mkay?

[up][up]Black Panther is a bit of a hard read for me, it does tend to be kinda wordy. Wo W has the opposite problem, it's very...prose-y? Then again, one of the writers is a poet so that's to be expected. I do like the fact that the writing commands me to actually pay attention instead of skimming.

[up]The main issue with me on how I think the metaphor works is the issue of conflating people with their powers and ostracizing them because of it. I imagine it's a headache in the Marvel Universe because on the one hand, you have the right to be scared but on the other hands, do you want to create more followers of Magneto by said ostracizing? It's a complicated situation, much like how race/gender/religion is in real life.

It honestly feels like some of these stories about necessary weasels in superhero comics are secretly f yous to people who dislike them. I can kinda see why Garth Ennis hates this genre now.

I said it the other day when we were having the secret identities debate, but the superhero genre is one of those things where if someone is seriously angry about old tropes that have been in use since the 30's and are cornerstones of the genre, maybe this just isn't for them.

[up]That is the current rumor. Especially since Square Enix does have a working relationship with Disney.

[up]God, I hope not. I would like for Kingdom Hearts to stick with the Disney Animated Canon and Disney's homegrown franchises instead of using Marvel.

Kingdom Hearts already barely sticks to Disney anyway... it's all absorbed in its absurdbly bloated original material.

No big loss. I'd expect them to stick to a fairly streamlined cast of characters since otherwise, "Marvel" is an absurdly broad cast of characters to pick from.

My immediate thoughts would either be either the Avengers or the Guardians, with the stage being New York, Knowhere, or maybe Asgard.

The populas being angry because people have asked them them to be considerate? Yeah that's a real thing. Of course Hydra!Steve's response is going to be "no more consideration" when the morally correct response is to make being considerate to your fellow man easy and accessible. And that's a job only governments can do, not super heroes. Sure super heroes can be role models, but only governments can provide community funding and projects and supply welfare.

In other news, I took as look at Avengers AIM, and, dang, I hate that artist. I first encountered Gerardo F. Sandoval on the World of Warcraft book, and his art kind of worked there because his characters looked like the in-game models. Massive hands, tiny heads with massive chins, thick lips and breasts everywhere. But jeez, why is he on this title?

The premise is interesting and as always I love Al Enwing's writing and ability to tackle meta tropes in universe. The complete subversion of the prophecy and mole was very satisfying, but, I don't recognise anyone on this team.

Hulking and Wiccan of course I know, and Squirrel Girl I read a lot of (but I'm not sure she works in a team book) but I don't know anything about POD, Sunspot, Powerman or Song-bird.

Perhaps I'll have a second look, I'm not sure.

The artist changes next volume. Keep with it.

Also the hell is with Inhumans vs. X-Men trying to villainize the mutants when they are literally fighting for their survival? Bobby's boyfriend is suddenly worth the fate of the mutant race?

I'm reading a comic about how a religious group is trying to maintain its culture at the expense of a minority who per the writer should just leave or stop being mutants, and who are literally fighting for survival against being gassed to death. This is the most tone deaf thing I've ever seen in a Marvel comic, it's a fucking white power fantasy.

Seriously, Charles Soule is saying that the X-Men should just Stop Being Queer if they want to live because the Inhuman's religious custom demands it. I can't believe what I'm seeing.

About half of Captain Hydra's rant is Marvel attempting to pass the buck on their own nonsensical hero-versus-hero events, pretending that readers aren't sick of them because of how often Marvel makes their own characters awful.

A blogger I admire posited that the absurdity of the conflict might be an intentional Stealth Parody on the writer's part, and a rather good reflection of how unwilling privileged groups are to lend a hand to minorities in the real world.

Any Marvel world would very likely be based around the Avengers in NYC as it's the most toyetic setting and cast, and despite its silliness that edges into Hot Topic edge Kingdom Hearts is a game aimed at younger audiences. The one I'd really be surprised about is a Star Wars world, since they did show up in Disney Infinity before.

Please don't let this be another Politically Relevantâ„¢ event. I lost my faith in Marvel doing those with any sort of tact or subtlety long ago, and that's even before factoring in Perlmutter and his right-wing agenda the size of a small country skulking around.

I keep hearing that Ms. Marvel's sales are tanking. Is that true or are they just confusing her with cancellation queen Carol?
