If it's free standing RAM Imca, you could build x2 8 Gig computers. Otherwise I'd second the video editing. I heard that Photoshop isn't as popular in Japan as some other programs, but that's what I heard. If you can snag a copy of photoshop go for it and do some photo editing on the side. What we 'Mericans call "Moonlighting" (having a job or profession you do on the side).

Is it possible to do it from a series of floppies like the original AOL or Windows 3? I believe Windows 95 had what 23-25 flops?

I'm not talking about boot disks.

[up]That's like going over Victoria Falls in a barrel: you could do it, but why?

There are external cd-rom/dvd-rom drives if your mobo will boot off USB do it.

So I'm upgrading (a situation caused by the old card going bad for some reason) from a GTX-680 to a GTX-760, and based on nVidia's website, both cards use the same driver. Will I still have to uninstall the current video driver as is the norm with video card upgrades?

AMA done by Bill Gates. I thought at least 2 of you could be marginally interested to a point.

For those who do not know: Bill Gate is a wizard who made computer happen. I paraphrased The Other Wiki on that one.

I was wondering if anybody here familiar with the use of modern computers, cell phones and tablets, decorated and concealed for use on science fiction shows, passed off as advanced alien technology?

Something I call "iPads In Fancy Cases" might makebe a good YKTTW.

When the latest show uses Chrome-plated, Samsung Galaxy Notes that's one thing, but when Stargate SG-1 used Newtons back in 1998 in a fancy case that's a whole different thing! [lol]

As an aside to a few posts up, the problems in Africa aren't all that obscure (summary version: Assholes In Charge), but what to do about them without the political will to act is another issue.

That said, I for one welcome our new AI overlords.

[up]Color me not a fan of small cases. But if you live where space is at a preimum, go for it. Just be sure you have a beefy powersupply. Anandtech likes it and there is room for growth on your case. What P.S. are you using? You'll want a big one just in case (on pun intended) you want to go big on your vidcard latter.

.... big video cards and ATX dont mix, they end up covering ports and barely fit.... if you can make them fit.

  • Fractal Design makes nice cases, that's a good choice (especially because of the discount).
  • Hybrid drives are NOT WORTH IT; might as well get a 2TB HDD (the Hybrid drive's sale price is still a bit more expensive than a 2TB's non-discounted price). That's $88 instead of $97.
  • The motherboard you chose is AM 3+ socket; the CPU you chose is FM 2. Anyway, no point in getting an APU if you're going to put in a graphics card. Go with this mobo. Pick this CPU to stick with the price of $140 (but is actually better in CPU performance) or get over the hump to i5 with this at $190.
  • Get this instead as your PSU. Still more than enough power-wise and with a huge discount to boot. $70 instead of $140 too.
  • The RAM you picked is a single 8GB stick. Get a 2x4GB set to make use of dual-channel. This one is at a good price because of the discount.
  • Are you going to overclock? If not, save a bit more money ($35 to be exact) and use the stock cooler (and there are no overclocking options for H87 boards so it's kinda moot).
  • With the savings you can "go up" in terms of video card and get maybe either an R9 270X or 270; GTX 660 Ti or 660.

.... big video cards and ATX dont mix, they end up covering ports and barely fit.... if you can make them fit.

??? ATX is the "standard" size. The only cards which will barely fit would be the ones with triple-slot coolers, or ones that are quite long even if they don't have triple-slot coolers...

If they use the same video card driver... maybe not? If you'd rather play it safe, go ahead and uninstall the old ones and reinstall for the new card.

So, I'm thinking I'll grab this for my media PC replacement. I have an old hard drive and ram stick that should fit in it, in which case all I need to do is throw a Linux distro on it and I'll be ready to rock and roll.

[up][up]Just go ahead and replace it. That's what I did (well, I did nothing with the drivers LOL) when my GTX 570 died and I had to replace it with a GT 630. If you want to do something, put the new VC and update (if needed). Maybe you can send over that GTX 680 to me as well...? LOL I'm guessing it's still "rescue-able" unlike my 570 LOL
