think I found an okay image for this, though I'm not totally sure it's clear enough.

I can find a version without the watermark if it works.

That doesn't look like a map.

I'd rather have something more like [1][2][3]. (That first one even says "Choose your destination" on it.)

[up][up] That might work if the text was larger. The bug in the corner is fine.

[up] Like the first of those a lot.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

However, the first of those is also an example of Warp Whistle, so I'd lean towards something like #3 (which is its game's only way to travel between destinations).

The third is good with me.

I don't think it's a problem to overlap with Warp Whistle here, since it's so common for this trope to overlap with Warp Whistle and the title is clear enough that this is about the map screen.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

This is the first possibility that came to my mind - from an actual point-and-click adventure game, at that (of the suggestions, AFAIK only Darkseed 2 in the OP is one, but it doesn't really look much like a map).

Before we go with something, I have a suggestion or two, but I need sleep. Can this be given a stay of implementation until I can throw my ideas out to the crowd in the morning?

[up][up] I love the Monkey Island example! I'm thinking something from CMI might be better though, simply because of the improved graphics. Here, I made one of Plunder Island: [1]. I'll make one of Blood Island too, I just have get there.. no old saves. The dark background of Blood Island will be better with the font I expect.

OP doesn't look like a map.

Of post 2 2.3 is best for me. It's a bit better than 10 as it has a "Select" tag on the upper right corner.

[up] Of those, I prefer the one with the arrow.

Any comment on my suggestion? I think it works well, but that's probably a case of Fan Myopia talking.

[up] Is there just one location on the map with arrows indicating which way you can go from there? If that's the case, I think I prefer one with multiple options already on the map...good for Image Links, though, if it doesn't get chosen. I anticipate we'll need a crowner on this.

Both of the blue dots on the map are different locations. Sadly though, it would be myopic of me to suggest that this is immediately intuitive without prior information regarding the work.

[up] Oh, okay...I thought that white thing over the town name was a hand pointing at the location.

You are correct, the white thing is a hand pointing at that blue dot representing the town of Nohl. There are two other blue dots, each of which you can move to.

#14 isn't bad, and a lesser-known example at that. Would be nice if it had more of a map-like presentation though.

Here is a shot of Pokemon XD's map screen.

Blood Island with all the arrows is even better for me.

Okay, we've got a bunch of suggestions...time to start narrowing these down to ones that we'd definitely like to consider for a crowner, if there's not one that everyone can agree on.

I think we want 2.1, 2.3, 10, 15.1 and 15.2 for a crowner.
