I already mentioned that Bioware did say how they defeated the Reapers. So no, 'tis not in my mind. You should have read my previous posts more carefully. It comes from some BSN forum posts. I will now search for them.
Voilá, here on Twitter and here on BSN
Liara saying that she hopes the next cycle does not commit the same mistakes as this one, and then they reveal that the next cycle used the Crucible and took one of the Catalyst's choices (unlike Shepard) seems to contain a Take That, Audience!. Keep in mind that the scene is also triggered by shooting the Starbrat hologram: Shooting him was done in a lot of anti-ending videos prior to the EC being released. One piece of criticism towards the ending was that you were obliged to choose one of the Starkid's options.
I'm saying that the above counts as a Take That Audience and I made clear that it was just my opinion. I did not say we should add "Goddamn Refuse ending sucks" to the entry. I tried to explain why I think that way, you just called it "whining" and "complaining about endings you don't like" and only said that we don't know what the next cycle used, which I have addressed above. So please, I'm not the one whining.
We should be able to have a discussion without the term "whining" starting to fly around. Focus on the argument, not the person, and all that.

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.Except as someone who has been to BSN, whinning is a pretty app description of some of the posts about the refusal ending. I'm not saying you're whinning, just that there is a lot of whinning.
Not to be rude, but it's whining with one N.
Anyway, as I said, I'm on the fence about the Take That, Audience! thing. I'm fine either way.
Moving along, though: can we all agree that the ending is now unambiguously a Bittersweet Ending?
Yes
Synthesis is rather cheery for a Bittersweet, but it could fit since Shepard dies.
Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. In fact, it's the only ending where s/he does so unambiguously, unless one counts refusal.
Plus, given everything else that's happened up to that point - as is reinforced by those flashbacks to dead characters - I'm not sure any ending would qualify as a strict Happy Ending anyway.
At any rate, I think we can now remove that Gainax Ending entry, if it's still there.
No, no. I don't believe we should replace old entries, just add that it was changed by the EC. The original game still exists, it was not real-life retconned out of existence.
This is one of my fears, that we will lose many valid old entries. It was a DLC that changed the endings, but we should still trope the original ones.

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. It hasn't ceased to exist, but it has been superseded. If we keep tropes related to the original ending, then at the very least we shouldn't give them priority.
Yep, due to the powers of retcongeration they have been superseeded, and no doubt all future printings of the game will include the EC. Maybe a note in relevant tropes where the EC starts just for documentation sake.
As a possibility, you could soft split the page, as is done on La Pucelle (which got 3 new endings and ditched the old one when it got an Updated Re-release), to put tropes that apply to the old endings (or new endings) in a separate part of the page.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Probably figure that its best to bring this up here.
Ccoa posted this on the Mass Effect Heartwarming Moments Discussion Page:
I was about to do so myself, but it would involve chainsawing large numbers of entries. So I thought I'd post here and give people a chance to rewrite them themselves if they're so inclined.
If it isn't done in a reasonable amount of time (say, one week?), I'll just delete them all.
I figure that this is probably the best avenue for figuring out how we're going to do this.
There is going to be a huge amount of YMMV from the fallout of the Extended Cuts, so get ready for that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXkI1sTDoEgThat's not a bad idea.
Trying to do a bit of clean-up of the "this troper" stuff on the Heartwarming page.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I haven't looked in a long time, so I wanted to check here: is this done? The controversy seems to have largely died down, but I don't know if the page(s) was ever unlocked.
The pages were unlocked.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'm going to go ahead and close this since we haven't had any major problems recently...hopefully it's a topic that won't need to be revisited.
I don't see that as a Take That. Maybe choice/choose line is, but overall while the Refuse ending seems kinda passive-aggressive to the fans it doesn't seem to be a slap to them.
